Pet-Friendly Lakeside Cottage w/ Kayaks and Canoe!

Welcome to Cattail Cottage, at O'Connell Cabin Company, your cozy retreat nestled on the shores of Lower Holly Lake, in Stone Lake, Wisconsin. This open-concept cabin, built in 2021, boasts a perfect blend of modern comfort and rustic charm.

First, some quick notes:

Parking -- We kindly ask for a 4 vehicle limit. The driveway is the only place to park and it is not very big :-).

Dock Install/removal -- Our dock for Cattail Cottage is located within short walking distance from the property. Check out the illustration we have in the photo gallery that shows where the dock is! We usually take the dock out of the water late October (we wait as long as we can) and we usually put it back in around mid/late April (we try to get it in as soon as we can). If you are looking at dates during either of these times of the year, don't hesitate to reach out to confirm status before booking.

If you are thinking of bringing your own boat, ATV's, snowmobiles, etc, get a hold of me so we can talk logistics. The road coming into the cabin is tight, and so is the driveway.

Great, clean property! Good fishing on Lower Holly lake, very quiet out in the canoe! Will definitely come back to the Hayward area! Plenty of great places to eat and sights to see!

Great for families!
We visited with another family and the space was great for 8 people, all ages. The cabin has the basic necessities and the lake access was wonderful. We will definitely keep this location in mind for future cabin trips! The host provided us with so much information upfront that it kept our need to communicate very minimal so we could be in full vacation mode!

The property was wonderful! My family of 10 and our dogs had a wonderful time at this home! It is open and spacious enough so that we never felt like we were tripping over anyone. The scenery if beautiful and it was very quiet there as well! Lots of space to play games, do puzzles and play ping pong!

The place was very clean. Nice to have a bedroom downstairs to put my grandson to bed and we could be upstairs playing cards. Appreciated being able to bring our dog. Wish there would of been snow to play in. We enjoyed gong for a hike and went whistle Puke.

Family Reunion
We had a wonderful time at this property with my siblings & their spouses. Our parents had a place near Birchwood when we were growing up & it was so fun to be in the area & revisit places we use to go to. We all were delighted with the cabin, views, owners attentiveness etc. We hope to return for another reunion.

We had our entire family (6 adults and our 14 month old Granddaughter) had such a wonderful time! We kayaked, fished and just enjoyed the natural splendor! For a small little lake holy smokes it was so much fun watching the fishing activity! Loved everything! Brad our property owner was so highly communicative and I certainly appreciate everything he did for us! I honestly wish that there was a higher level we could give! 👍

Weekend Getaway
We had a wonderful time at the Cattail Cottage. We met up with three other families, and had plenty of space to spread out and relax. The area was very quiet and peaceful, with beautiful views. The cottage was clean and had lots of fun amenities, including puzzles and the ping pong table! We would definitely go back. 10/10.

Clean and high quality, host is super responsive
The cabin is very clean and high quality. Love how everything is labeled - especially all the lights! Double bonus that there was a sponge and dish soap since I always forget to pack that. Love that it’s pet friendly. The floors are not carpeted which makes it great for pets. We have stayed in multiple of Brads properties and he is super responsive and answers all my questions.

Old friends girls’ weekend
Eight of my good friends rent a cabin every winter for long conversations and lots of laughing. We enjoyed staying at the cabin and sign up to cook each meal. The kitchen equipment is limited and small for larger groups. We had to serve a fruit juice from a mixing bowl and ladle and cook food in batches in the small frying pan. The cabin was very clean and had a lovely view. Be sure to bring your own throws and cushions if the weather is cold.

Easter Weekend
We used this cabin as a halfway meeting spot to spend Easter Weekend with extended family and we are so glad we picked this cabin. I was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of space for everyone. The kids really enjoyed having the ping pong table and the many board games to keep us busy since there was still snow on the ground. It was very clean and Brad and Sarah were very helpful and responsive. If we book again we will probably bring our own pillows as the ones provided are very firm and we will also be bringing more large bowls for cooking for larger groups. Other than that everything was perfect. Hayward was a short drive north, it had everything we needed and we enjoyed walking around the downtown area.

Quiet Vacation
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We brought our dogs and walked them often on the long dirt road. If you bring dogs, highly suggest you leash while walking as we had issues with other dogs being offleash and coming at us while walking/unpleasant. The cabin was beautiful and plenty of space. Only suggestion for anyone with young kids/seniors with balance issues - would recommend bringing a shower mat for the bathtub floors, fairly slippery. The weather was beautiful, host was great. If your first time to the area, many places are closed Sun/Mon, but Beechmoor down the road has a great bartender, amazing pies and a true Sconnie bar.

Family Winter Gathering
Our family had a winter get-together, which was a perfect location for our group to get together. The cabin was immaculate. We had a lot of gathering space and bedrooms for our group. We were close enough to Hayward to get our grocery and food needs. There were a lot of amenities included, most of which we couldn't use due to the time of year. But, we did enjoy the ping pong table, large family table, and downstairs lounge area. We were able to take some walks in the rural setting which were quiet and relaxing. We also had our dog with us, which was nice as he also enjoyed the outdoor walks. Our family's only complaint was the extra firm pillows on all of the beds, which wouldn't deter us from booking this cabin again. We would just bring our own pillows next time. I would love to come again during the summer months just to be able to enjoy all the amenities the property has to offer.

Family Fall Getaway - MEA in Minnesota
We had five adults, three kids, (18 months, 6 years and 9 years). It was perfect for everyone! We could see the water even though it was a short walk to get to the dock. The space inside was perfect on the rainy days. When the weather cooperated we had a bonfire each late afternoon into the evening! The road was perfect for walks around the area. The fall colors were amazing! If we had questions Brad was just a message a way. We had a special request and since he was in the area he stopped over in person to help us out! The main floor was great during the day and we headed down to the lower level in the evening to watch baseball and play ping pong. There is a high top table down there that allowed a few to get one more board game in before heading to bed. We would definitely say, this is a place that would be worthy of a return visit!

Peaceful Cabin in Stunning WI Setting
My family found relaxation, fun, the great outdoors and incredibly enjoyed our week at Cattail Cottage. The cabin was spotless when we checked in, and the light coming in all levels was beautiful through the large windows overlooking the lake and cove. Communication with the owners was fantastic and Brad engaged proactively and promptly for any questions we had. He even connected us to a local fishing guide, which was much appreciated. There are very clear instruction and welcome guides for all cabin amenities and checking/checkout processes. The kitchen was set up nicely for us to make meals, the temps were comfortable and fireplace was cozy during the two snow storms we experienced. We were surprised our cell coverage was great there, with Starlink wireless at the cabin supporting as well. We enjoyed exploring the local towns- and everyone at the Mercantile and Hardware store in Stone Lake were incredible helpful. Lots of great local bars and restaurants as well. The woods and drive were a winter wonderland- great for snowshoeing and walking the dogs. We appreciate having a place for families to visit with their dogs- We would happily stay here again and thank you for your hospitality!

A perfect fall getaway
Beautiful, quiet property and a lovely home with all the necessities and thoughtful touches. Easy to follow communications from the host and helpful driving instructions to help with dicey GPS directions! Everything was just wonderful and we highly recommend this property.
