Summary:
This gorgeous country cottage for six has been finished to a high standard and is just moments from Gorran Haven's sea front. Together with private parking and a garden, there's little comparison! You'll find pretty traditional features throughout alongside tasteful contemporary updates in the bathrooms and kitchen.
The Space:
The front door leads into the light and bright entrance room, where there is a delightful sash window as well as desk (perfect for those on a working holiday) and a charming floating staircase that leads upstairs. Next door, a separate homely living room provides the perfect spot for cosy nights in - there's a wood burner for the cooler evenings alongside a 4K smart TV with apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime (own logins required).
Heading through to the back of the house, the open-plan kitchen and dining room is rather special - expect heaps of natural light and plenty of space! The modern kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need, from an electric oven and hob to a built-in microwave, sharp knives, a dishwasher, large double-doored fridge freezer and cooking utensils. Enjoy sociable breakfasts in the dining space where, on a warm day, you can throw open the French doors and enjoy views out onto the garden - it's blissful. On the ground floor, you will also find a newly kitted out family bathroom with a bath and shower.
Upstairs, you will find an additional WC alongside three gorgeous bedrooms: one with twin beds, another with bunk beds and the Master which has a king. Please note, the upstairs bathroom and bunk bedroom are accessed via the king size bedroom and is suitable for children only. The bedrooms have plenty of thoughtful touches, including storage space for clothes as well as local art hanging on the walls. The cottage's prime location means you can walk straight to the beach, and the stylish finish makes it a real home away from home in idyllic South Cornwall. Private parking available for one vehicle.
Guest Access:
Guests will have exclusive access to the entire cottage.
The Neighborhood:
The cottage is perfectly situated to explore the best of South Cornwall. You're just a two-minute walk from the quaint harbour of Gorran Haven, where there is a sandy beach and a wall for fishing off - or for jumping at high tide! At low tide, you can walk round to Little Perhaver beach, a beautiful, secluded cove perfect for rock pooling. The waters at both beaches are normally very calm and safe for swimming. This also makes perfect conditions for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding, which you can hire from the beach.
There is also a fish and chips shop, a local bakery and shop as well as a beach hut serving food. Although there is no pub in the village itself, Cakebreads has a covered outdoor bar selling fresh local ale or lager and a variety of cocktails in the summer and also serves tasty breakfasts and lunches. And if it’s a traditional local pub you’re after, head to the Barley Sheaf just up the road in Gorran Churchtown. In the Summer you can enjoy a large beer garden and there is also a fantastic restaurant, run by renowned chef Tim Kendall. The Llawnroc Hotel is also a lovely spot for food and cream teas!
For the hikers, there are stunning coastal paths traversing most of the South Cornwall coast line. The property is on the South West Coast Path (a 630 mile adventure around the coastline of England’s South West peninsula), our favourite of which is the walk to the historic Dodman's Point. On the way you will pass Vault Beach - one of Cornwall's best kept secrets! This mile long stretch of white sand is the perfect escape from the summer crowds. Other great local beaches include Caerhays beach and castle and the quieter Hemmick. Both can be reached via coastal paths if you are feeling adventurous. In the other direction, you can take a beautiful walk to the next fishing village, Portmelon, where you can enjoy a pint and chips on the water front.
For those with transport, the larger fishing village of Mevagissey is well worth a visit. Here you can find ample gift shops with local crafts and produce, pubs serving real ale and lots of great cafes, takeaways and restaurants. Other notable local activities include the stunning Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project.
Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Cornwall we would highly recommend bringing a car to make the most of your time here. There is free private parking on the drive for one vehicle. If you require additional parking, the local car park is only 5 minutes walk and is quite reasonable. A 24 hour ticket costs £6 (shorter stays also available), and 7 days costs £35. In low season, parking on the road opposite the village shops is also free and unrestricted. There is also free parking available on the outskirts of town all year round.
Other Things to Note:
Please note, the cottage shares some areas with another property, the boatshed. The shared areas are the outdoor utility room and bin store which are located in between the two properties. Both the cottage and the boatshed have private entrances and garden areas - though they are not fenced off. For those interested, both properties are also bookable together. Just get in touch if this is of interest!
Guests should be aware that the stair case is open and there is a hard slate floor at the bottom of it. Please be aware of this if you have mobile babies and young children.
