Hello we are Justin and Elena, welcome to our home! We bought this property in 2012 and have been working on it ever since. Located in Historic Westside Springfield, IL. Near downtown, Washington Park, historic sites and shopping. Close to everything without being too close to anything.
Hermit's Hideaway is located in the back of our charming(quirky), mostly renovated, 1859 house. There are mosaic tile floors and tile mosaic in the kitchen. Lots of custom touches throughout. Very quiet, cozy and secluded. Sunset views from the living room.
Gorgeous tiered koi pond off the private back deck. In spring and summer endless flowers. We do not use any poisons in the yard, and have created a large butterfly garden and every year we get more and more butterflies! Monarchs are Swallowtails are the most plentiful, but we get a wide variety. In the back yard is our chicken coop, we currently have 10 semi-free ranging chickens in the backyard. 2 cats: Zoro, Mr Z Kitty and Sir Oliver Butterscotch, the Belligerent. We also have 2 65 pound dogs; EmmaJane NaughtyPants and Link Underfoot. They are friendly in your face kind of dogs. We do our best to keep them away from guests, but they are around. This place is an opportunity to stay in a truly unique home, on an acre lot in the middle of the Historic West side. We also own a duplex on the property and have that set up as short term rentals as well. When the weather cooperates the backyard is irresistible. We put in a giant vegetable garden every year. We have pear, peach, cherry and apple trees, as well as strawberries, raspberries and blackberries growing.

The apartment was wonderful. Great neighborhood and convenient location. It was big and spacious and had everything you need. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and quiet. Parking was available. Justin and Elena were so nice and gracious. I give them my highest recommendation.

Hermits Hideaway is a fun, eclectic, cozy space. It was super clean and provided every convenience that you could need or want. I would recommend this spot to anyone visiting the Springfield area.

The coolest place we’ve ever stayed!
This place was like an arboretum in the city. We had coffee with koi! The art and decor and craftsmanship was superb; we kept finding new fun things that we hadn’t seen. The hosts were very nice and pleasant to talk to. It was clear that a lot of love and care went into this space. We are looking for a reason to go to Springfield again just to go back. :)

Loved the hermits hideaway.
Came for two nights from Minnesota to see Lincoln history. So glad we stayed at the hermits hide away. Great place to stay if you’re in Springfield. Fantastic owners who seem to enjoy hosting people and have put a lot of effort into making the place welcoming. Would recommend highly.

A unique and comfortable spot
Everything was excellent. It's in a unique and convenient neighborhood, and the apartment is beautiful and comfortable, with a pond and deck out back and lots of colorful touches inside.

We felt like we were in the Caribbean. Everything was cheery and nicely furnished. There was every thing we needed for our stay. I had arranged this trip to spend quality time with my Grandson to talk about life with Jesus and had very successful weekend.

I love all of this hosts units however this is my fav. It has a deck overlooking the peaceful koi pond. Also great kitchen, lovely bedroom and bath. Next time I will stay longer for r & r.

Although the approach to the property was a bit confusing, the unit itself was terrific: clean, comfortable, well-equipped, and cheery. Also a convenient location for visiting the Lincoln Museum and Library, the focus of our visit to Springfield.

A Spot of Magic
Elena & Justin's place is nothing short of magical. The gardens are gorgeous, the apartments are unique, beautifully decorated, comfortable, and meticulously upkept, and the hosts are top notch. What started as a random vrbo pick has now become a forever favorite.
