Very welcoming staff. Beautiful location. Dinner in the pub was amazing. The room didn't have a four poster as pictured but was stll very comfortable and clean. Shower left a lot to be desired.
Another stay at The Packhorse and we were not disappointed. The new management are welcoming and friendly.
We loved the Italian night menu on Thursday, receiving a first rate meal.
Our room was spacious and the bed very comfortable.
Many thanks.

Nice people.
Nice beer but food not served on a Tuesday which Hotels.com should point out.

Stayed in Bedroom 2, initially shown to Bedroom 1 but there was road noise outside so asked if I could have a different room. Bedroom 2 comfortable however bathroom could do with modernising.
Must what we wanted as we were down for a funeral in Plymouth. The downside the TV was some how not working but only there for one night so no probem

Beautifully comfortable bed and fantastic shower. Friendly welcome, good atmosphere in bar and great tapas. However, someone might like to attend to the roof of the building directly below bedroom 1, which offers unexpected views.
Very pleasant stay. Well appointed and clean double bedroom. Friendly and accommodating staff. Nice breakfast and most enjoyable evening meal in the pub. Lovely steak and the ham and eggs looked good too!
Initially I was helped to settle in very well but for a small village pub was not expecting to be kept awake till 1am after a very long day working by a very loud mid week party going on in the bar so would definitely NOT recommend this hotel and I would certainly not stay here again
Lovely welcoming hosts. So very friendly. Amazing food in the evening and the best breakfast too. Very comfortable room with everything we needed. Highly recommended. Very convenient location just off the A38

One night stay
Checked in early thanks to 2 very helpful ladies. Room pretty basic but fine for my needs and great value. Barman very competent and helpful. Lovely beer garden. No food Tuesday night but I should have checked. Biggest problem is the noise as room directly above bar and facing onto road and window next to some extractor fan or the like. If you can’t deal with this then this is perhaps not for you.
We found it homely and the hosts could not do more to make us welcome.
They are in the process of refurbishing and once finished the whole place will be superb.
It is under new management. We were warmly welcomed and there was a great atm9sphere. Very good breakfast and lovely home made chicken pie and tender rump steak.
Room 1. The room had been updated relatively recently. Comfortable bed, decent shower (once one worked out how it worked) and modern units. Blinds need attention so I just left them down. Some noise from below but room isnt over bar so wasnt a problem. Food basic pub grub but delicious. Excellent beer. Staff very busy. Responsive to requests but some guests may desire a more proactive approach.

Fair Value
New management team have recently re-opened the Inn and know that there is much to do - decor, minor maintenance and the like. The lower price reflects this. It is a lovely old building in a pleasant Dartmoor village and I had an enjoyable stay.
Very tight entrance to small car park. Staff struggled to open room door. Decor poor. No light bulb in one bedside light. Bathroom sink cracked and chipped. Shower curtain did not stop water getting on to bathroom floor, apparent through experience and stained lino floor. Some kind of fixing for something (probably former toilet roll holder because there wasn't one) sticking out of the wall. Unable to release bath plug to drain water! Booked a couple a weeks in advance of stay, then 3 days before book in, received short email stating they were unable to supply breakfast with no alternative suggestions, meaning we had to make our own arrangements on top of the reason we were staying (family funeral). Generally very disappointing. I will not be recommending anybody stay here!
Very disappointing experience. Presumably old photos of 'master room' on profile. Reality was different. Drapes around the four poster bed were missing. The appearance of the room. was the sole reason for paying the higher rate. Decor and fittings old and shabby. Worst problem was the couldn't care less attitude from the charmless, unhelpful man who checked us in. No idea about customer service. Dinner menu not available on a Friday night, just a couple of very boring 'specials'. Something worth knowing before booking.
Breakfast included in the rate didn't start until 9:30 on a Saturday wiith checkout time 'before 10am'. Seriously? Not prepared to waste time waiting for a breakfast that late. So ended up paying again for breakfast elsewhere.
Building scruffy and depressing, inside and out. freezers and shelving units dumped in the car park. No opportunity to complain at the time as the bar was locked and no-one was around when we left at 8am.
In fairness bed was comfortable and large shower room was ok.
