Elk - Hocking Hills

A secluded wooded setting in Ohio's Hocking Hills, with views enjoyed from the wrap-around deck, the hot-tub or the wall of windows along the open-concept, vaulted, living area. The massive chimney is made of local river rocks. Queen bedroom on main floor and a queen bed in loft. (Loft is accessed by a rustic-styled ladder – which is fun for some of us, but not recommended for guests with physical limitations or for children.) Wood-burning fireplace and charcoal grill. Satellite tv and DVD player. But no Wi-Fi available at this location. Also, mobile-phone coverage is spotty – so use your car’s GPS. (There is a land-line phone.)

Great cabin
Great little cabin. Very clean and well taken care of. We absolutely loved the hot tub and the view off of the front deck.

Don’t trust host.
We checked in for our honeymoon, dropped our bags and left to get dinner for about an hour and came back. When unlocking the door we noticed a bug on the house which isn’t unusual however it turned out to be a cockroach. Freaked out and disgusted we had to leave our wedding cake behind and find a hotel after vigorously checking our belongings. The host refused and still refuses to give us a refund due to the roach being on the outside of the building and not on the inside. He acknowledged it was a cockroach and implied he knew ahead of time about roaches. We made a case with the health department and have yet to see our refund; honeymoon cut short and a five hour drive home.

Awesome cabin in the woods
The cabin was perfect for our family of 4 to enjoy a long weekend of hiking. All the main trails are nearby. The secluded location made us feel like we were off the grid, but still had the necessary amenities to be comfortable. We’d stay here again if we make it back to Hocking Hills.

Overall, great little place to stay. We decided in the future to go with something a little larger as we felt a little claustrophobic. Otherwise, the maintenance and cleanliness were perfect. Close to all the trails and getting that hiking experience!

Cozy but super smelly
Cabin was much smaller then it appeared on line. It smelled very smoky when arriving. Bed and linens smelled sour, pillows and bed was terribly uncomfortable. Went out to eat due to the smell and ended leaving next morning at 6:30 to drive 3 hours home. Disappointing trip

Refreshing wooded view
We hiked multiple trails with our dog on her pet vacation. Saw beautiful waterfalls, cliffs, and caves all in state parks near the cabin. In the evenings we enjoyed the hot tub and the deck facing the woods and had a couple of fires in the large stone fireplace.

Birthday getaway for 2
Great cabin. Very clean and had plenty of cookware however, the eyes of the stove were crooked and made cooking slightly difficult. Otherwise it was a great stay. We will definitely be back!

The Excellent Elk
We stayed at a cabin, in Hocking Hills”, named “The Elk”. For the 3 of us and or Saint Bernard, it was perfect! The cabin was just big enough for our needs and we loved the seclusion it offered us! We have been to Hocking Hills 3 times, and this was our favorite cabin by far! Can’t wait to come back in the Fall if 2024! We were isolated, yet close enough to tourists attractions and the local store! Grandma Faye”s general store had EVERYTHING we needed to complete our trip! Thank you Vrbo!! Thank you Chalets!!! Entirely thankful for a peaceful and lovely stay in Hocking Hills!

Me and my husband loved being at ELK cabin. It was very clean. Had just enough of everything. Quiet & secluded area. Loved the back deck and hot tub! Definitely will go back to ELK cabin again!

Bug Infestation! No Refund or recourse
When we arrived we were created by stink bugs crawling all over the house; in the couch, in the kitchen, in the bathrooms in the beds (gross)! We killed a dozen or so of the bugs, however they kept on coming! When it was time for bed our kids refused to go to sleep as we kept finding bugs in areas we were planning to sleep. The upstairs bedroom was uninhabitable as bugs were crawling all over ceiling and light immediately over the bed. Part of the family had to stay in car over night. Upon the next day we called the office who apologized, requested we send photos (which we did) and said they couldn’t do anything until the office manager arrived on Friday. We advised we would be checking out that day as the kids would it sleep and the bugs remained. We paid for two days and stayed only one. The office manager then refused to provide any refund stating the bugs “weren’t dangerous” and that it is perfectly acceptable to sleep in a bed covered with bugs as long as they are “not dangerous”. We will not be coming back and do not recommend anyone stay here unless you enjoy bug infested properties..

Family Spring Break
Husband, toddler and I stayed 3 nights for a little spring break trip. It was wonderful. Cabin was very clean & close to everything we wanted to explore. Enjoyed the hot tub once toddler was in bed. Would recommend.
