Lovely spacious villa with large pool and panoramic views near Rome/Viterbo

The house is situated near Rome, on the slopes of the Cimini mountains, with truly breathtaking views in all directions of rolling countryside and mountains, 10 minutes from the beautiful medieval town of Soriano. It sits surrounded by it's own lawns, meadow, olive groves, fruit trees and nut orchard in a quiet rural location, with masses of space for kids to roam safely to their hearts content. At various times in the Summer you can help yourselves to cherries, apples, figs, giungiole (delicious local fruit), hazelnuts and our own market garden.
It is 20 mins from the medieval papal city of Viterbo, 40 mins from scenic Orvieto, 1 hour from the Tuscan seaside, 2 hours from Florence and an hour north of Rome by car. By train from the nearby station at Orte, you can get to Florence in 2 hrs and Rome in 40 mins. It is situated in beautiful countryside, very similar to neighbouring Umbria and Tuscany but far less touristy. Soriano itself is a very friendly local market town with all the necessary amenities and shops. It sports some excellent yet reasonably priced restaurants. There's lots of good eating in surrounding towns. The area is known for its many thermal springs. Nearby are the Lakes di Vico and Bolsena (great for visiting, eating by the water and swimming/water sports in the summer) and chestnut/beach forests on the Monte Cimini (great for long walks in the mountains). La Fagetta, the summit of the highest Cimini mountain is a 20 minute drive from here with the most spectacular views - a truly magical place in the evenings with it's huge beach trees, carpets of wild flowers and a good restaurant to come down to at the end of it al!

Soriano-Chestnut Festival(Sagra di Castagne): This takes place in the first two weeks of October, which usually sport excellent weather. There are medieval pageants and contests between the quartiere/rione of the town most nights in the main square in Soriano (See photo). The whole community get together to perform, provide typical local food (eaten together in great cellars and halls), joust, and run Soriano's own palio (horse race). This is the best time to get a real feel for the local life and community - a really heartwarming experience - and free chestnuts! This period tends to get booked early.

The house is very spacious with plenty of room for kids ( and adults) to play inside as well as out. There are 4 large double bedrooms and a 5th with bunk beds. There is a further space for sleeping in the large playroom where there is a table tennis table and table football. There is a also a cot bed and a Z bed. We have 2 large communal bathrooms. One has a large modern shower (refurbished this year), the other a lovely truly huge bath. The master has an ensuite bathroom as of 2016. There is also an outside shower by the pool.
We have a huge south facing sun terrace with a covered eating area which has wonderful views across the pool, nut orchards and the Tiber valley to the Appenine mountains beyond. This is a wonderful place to eat long holiday lunches in the shade or in the sun as you wish. In the evenings it is beautifully lit and even nicer for eating al fresco. There is also a lovely covered loggia at the front (with a great view of the Cimini mountains and the castle at Soriano) for a quiet place to read or a late afternoon snooze. It also has a large outside fireplace for cooler evenings.
The pool is large, surrounded by plenty of sunterrace and is also in a great spot (a real sun trap), but also has a lovely view for miles. There is a diving board and convenient steps in for little ones. The pool has a thermal cover for use in Spring and Autumn but is normally closed form mid October to mid April. We have opened outside that period in exceptional circumstances for an additional fee.

We are also 1 hour from the nearest beach of Sant'Agostino if you want a day at the seaside. It is a large and long sandy beach with areas that are managed (where you have to pay) and large unmanaged stretches. The water is clean and very safe for little ones as it only gets deep slowly. There is an excellent and reasonably priced seafood restaurant and number or bars/cafes. The Tuscan coast is 80 mins away - great for a day out. It's a huge space with plenty of bars or restaurants at one end, or a more quiet rural setting at the far end. We go several times a year. The lovely town of Tarquinia (the old Etruscan capital) is very near and definitely worth a visit (for dinner too if you want) before coming back. There's a wonderful fish maket just down the coast at Civitavecchia or the Tuscan coast is a further 45 minutes the other way.
Near Terni, 1 hour towards the central mountains, are the highest waterfalls in Europe - definitely worth a visit.
Lake Bolsena is a 40 minute drive - it is cradled in the crater of a huge (extinct!) supervolcano. Truly spectacular views are to be had all round - there are beaches, watersports, many good restaurants (some on stilts out in the lake) and boats for hire to explore the little islands out in the lake.
Nearby to Bolsena is the famous 'dying town' of Bagnoregio (Bognor Regis!). A truly spectacular and extraordinary medieval citadel on a rocky promontary out into the Tiber valley only accessible by a narrow footbridge. A must see and a great place for lunch. It is gradually being eroded - bits from the edge fall off each year in the rains and plunge hundreds of feet down into the ravine below. We go every holiday!

Proprietor speaks English, French, Italian, and some German.
Local agent Floriana speaks fluent English. She is a local tour guide and can arrange tours for our guests around the medieval heart of Soriano and many other local sites. Her mother provides exellent traditional pasta making lessons - great fun for adults and children alike. She is a mine of information for local travel and activities/sites to visit and for any info you need re getting to Rome etc. We'll give you plenty of info re the local restaurants.

Excellent property—true to listing
We had a wonderful stay with our three teens. The location was excellent for day trips to Rome and for seeing the beautiful hill towns. Grocery and restaurants nearby. The beautiful house, pool and grounds provided us enough space to be together and to also find peace and quiet when we wanted! Gorgeous balcony on the upper level, very comfortable beds and bed linens, well-equipped kitchen. Owners and property manager could not have been kinder or easier to deal with. We feel so lucky to have booked this stay!

Girl's Trip to Italy
This is a beautiful home, the location is great if you want to enjoy some relaxing time, it's not hard to get to Rome via train or even driving. Very spacious and close to town to get the necessary groceries or anything else you might need/or forgotten to include. The contact person was great (Floriana), so helpful and warm. Would definitely love to stay here again on our next trip to this area of Italy.

Little corner of tranquility
We loved our stay here; one of the best equipped places we've stayed in in Italy; all of the home comforts/holy grails like kettles and microwaves, plenty of space and a lovely breeze in the evening. Lots to do nearby; even a playpark 10minutes away to keep our toddler happy - can't ask for more than that!

Fabulous stay
I booked this villa for a group of 8 for a surprise birthday weekend and it was absolutely perfect. The pool area and area for outdoor dining are both great, and the house itself is well equipped with everything we could possibly need. We also arranged for a cook to come one night to make us dinner and the food was amazing and very reasonably priced - definitely recommended if coming for a special occasion. Would love to come back!

Wonderful holiday
We have just returned from 12 nights at Casa Glenister and have to say we had a fantastic time. The house is nice and spacious with plenty of room for our group of 7. The garden was lovely and we spent many afternoons and evenings relaxing by the pool after visiting the area. Rome was not too far away and there were plenty of places closer to the house to visit too. Bagnoregio was our favourite. Floriana was fantastic and gave us lots of good advice including recommending us to visit a local flower festival and cherry festival. Her parents were wonderful too and gave us fresh produce from their allotment and advice on how to prepare it. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would thoroughly recommend Casa Glenister as an ideal place for a relaxing holiday and a great location for exploring the Lazio region.

Definitely recommend
We have just returned from a truly lovely holiday at this villa. There were 6 adults, with a 5 year old and 9 month old. The villa was very clean, spacious and well equipped. The beds were extremely comfortable which is always a plus. The games room was great fun and a useful space for us all. We lit the fire on the loggia on a couple of evenings and sitting out there together with a glass of wine was the best. Although it was the second week in April and the pool wasn’t due to be open, the owners kindly made the pool ready for us. Although the water was cold it was bearable! The weather was kind to us; we only had one afternoon of rain, otherwise it was generally warm and sunny with a bit of cloud. We were able to visit Bagnoregio and Lake Bolsena nearby. We had day trips to Rome, Ostia Antica and Florence, further away but only a little over two hours by car at the most, (to reach Florence). We had take away pizzas from the local restaurant, which we can thoroughly recommend. The grounds at the villa were lovely and the scenery in every direction was picturesque. Any questions we had prior to, or during the trip were answered swiftly by the owners and while there, by Floriana, who was a great help and gave us lots of information. Nothing was too much trouble for her. We loved our time here and hope very much to return in the future.

Great place to stay
Had an excellent time at this Villa. The communication before we went was great and we were met by Flori when we arrived who kept in touch by phone and answered any questions we had during the week. There was 9 of us staying, of different ages, and there was ample room for us all. We especially enjoyed eating out on the veranda in the evenings. The surrounding towns are very pictures with great small shops selling bread, fruit etc. One tip if you are buying a lot of food go to the Eurospin shop rather than the Coop. I can highly recommend this villa

The villa is beautiful... clean, lots of space inside and out and well equipped for a group of 8. The pool and terrace area are fantastic.. we enjoyed lots of long lunches and lazy afternoons there. Floriana was extremely helpful. We would recommend a visit and swim at Lake Bolsena. So glad we discovered this villa.

Amazing holiday Villa
We had a wonderful time here. A family of eight sharing my wife's fortieth birthday. The Villa is amazing. The pool was refreshing, but it was late October! The views are spectacular having evening meals on the rear patio. Florence is only two hours drive away and Rome only just over an hour. Amazing places to visit nearby also. Overall, we had a brilliant time. The weather was a warm 21c most days.

Brilliant holiday in lovely villa.
Casa Glenister is the perfect villa for family holidays. There were ten in our party - 6 adults and 4 children. The villa is very comfortable and well kitted out with all necessary conveniences. The large pool is superb, set in a huge garden, and the views from the terraces are magnificent. There are plenty of interesting places to visit within easy reach including Lake Vico, Lake Bolsena, Orvieto, Viterbo and of course, Rome.

Perfect villa, perfect location, perfect holiday!
We had a fantastic stay in Casa Glenister. The villa was great and we spent many an hour in the pool and also in the games room playing table tennis. The kitchen had recently been refurbished and we mostly self catered. The local Coop in Soriano had everything we needed. We did try out the local pizzeria, which was very reasonable also. Flori was really helpful and made some great suggestions for excursions. We went to the sculpture park in Bomarzo, went to the forests (La Faggeta) on the Cimino mountain, the lake at Bolsena, and some of the party took a day trip to Rome. The weather was perfect with a lovely breeze, which meant the heat never became too much. Ingrid and Pete were great at ensuring we had everything we needed to know before we set off, and with Flori being nearby we always felt like we could seek advice or recommendations. I cannot recommend this villa highly enough, and I'm certain we will return again as we felt we had only just scratched the surface of things to do around Soriano.

Refreshing and relaxing stay
Our family of 7, from age 14 to grandparents, had the good fortune of staying at Casa Glenister in June 2016. After a week visiting big tourist cities it was refreshing to spend the next week relaxing at this beautiful villa. The location is outstanding with the views, comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, and we made good use of the games, DVDs and especially the pool. Floriana was a real treasure with her help. She offered many suggestions of places to visit, which we did and enjoyed. She assisted with our getting a phone card and arranging a taxi. She speaks perfect English. We recommend having a car, however if you get it in Orte be aware that they do not speak English. Our favorite place to eat was the local pizzaria, Scacco Matto, wonderful food and the nicest people. Pete and Ingrid were great to work with in their communication with us. We would love to come stay here again. Connie H.

Lovely property but some drawbacks.
Lovely bedrooms and lounge but kitchen was very small for 9 people. Wasn`t very suitable for small children (ours were 2, 3 and 5). We had to barricade the bars in the play area upstairs as they could squeeze through and fall on to the stairs.Pool and grounds were attractive. The children enjoyed collecting hazelnuts. Unfortunately we could not eat outside in the evening because of mosquitoes. As there was hardly any mosquito protection on the windows or doors it could get very hot and unpleasant particularly in the kitchen. Floriana was marvellous, very helpful, made a list of places the children might like (they especially liked the `Monster Park`). We went to Soriano,Viterbo,Orte and also Orvieto which we thought was delightful.(over 50mins according to Google Maps-not 30). We didn`t realise we even had to cook in bottled water - takes a lot of water for pasta for 9. We found it a nuisance having to collect water all the time.We would have preferred to be told about the water and the 100 euros cleaning fee BEFORE finally booking.

A lovely relaxing villa, very private rural location, but easy access to surrounding areas.
This is a lovely relaxed villa, in a very private rural location, but superbly placed for easy rail access to Rome and Florence (12 euros for a day ticket to Rome, including public transport in the city) and a short drive to the lovely city of Orvieto. La Faggeta forest and restaurant, just 20 mins drive, were a big hit. A car is essential. We were a family of 6 adults and 4 kids aged 2-9. The older kids loved the pool, and all enjoyed roaming in the huge garden and climbing the big, very laden cherry tree. There are several different areas to the villa, where we could all spend time together or escape for a bit of peace, so it works well for a big group. The outside covered eating area was a bonus for cover on both those hot days and the couple of heavy downpours we had, and we enjoyed several al-fresco meals taking in the beautiful peaceful countryside and views. The villa is very well-equipped, and well stocked with books, games, toys and DVDs, and the table football and ping pong were also a hit. Flori was very warm and welcoming, and a great source of information on the locality via WatsApp , although we were happy to spend a few days just relaxing around the villa and enjoying the family being together. Having to get bottled water wasn't too much of a problem, as we just refilled the bottles (for free) at the nearby village of Sant' Eutizio. We also discovered a shop selling wine on tap for 1 euro here, sadly on our last day! All in all, Casa Glenister is a great place for a relaxing family holiday, at a reasonable price, and in a good location for attractions further afield if desired.

Heerlijke plek
