We had a recent family reunion with 21 people -- ages 80 to 1 years old to celebrate mom's 80th birthday. This was the perfect site. We wanted to go somewhere that none of the family had been -- and Alaska it was. There were enough rooms and beds for all the various family members to sleep (and the beds were wonderful). And bathrooms in each room was very helpful! The views from the house are breathtakingly beautiful. We had fires in the fireplace on the deck and near the river every single night. The kitchen was fabulous for meals for that many people. The walk-in frig and large freezer in the kitchen were so helpful for all the food.
The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. They even adding a nice surprise toy, age appropriate, for the one year old! She spotting it the moment she walked in the door and played on it the entire stay.
The multiple washer/dryer units was also very helpful with 21 people! And, the driveway easily handled the 8 cars we had, and there was room for more!
Kody, the fishing guide, was super with such a large group! Although we were too
early for salmon catching, we had fun "fishing" vs "catching". He was able to also suggest things to see and do for the young adults. He answered our 101 questions about Alaska and the wilderness. He also helped us cook up the halibut from the charter boat fishing he set-up for some of us in Deep Creek.
We also received great ideas on places to see and things to experience from Jenny and Kody. We went down to Homer to fish and explore, Whitter for a boat cruise to see glaciers, and Seward to see Exit Glacier first hand. We also went into historic Kenai for a step back in time (check out the Cabin Park). But we also just kicked back and played games at the house, enjoyed the view and enjoyed our time together. There are many places for various groups to hang out together. And the HUGE DVD collection entertained the kids for more quiet down time.
There were many fun moments of family bike trips (bike and helmets provided), and tons of laughter moments as we share watermelon by the river side. There were tons of benches so everyone could sit and enjoy the sites and family time near the river.
We were blessed with a few sightings of caribou and moose in the riverside yard, and the street in the front of the house. We also had many visits from bald eagles. It was a treat for all!
Bottom line -- mom said she can't wait to come back again!
