We enjoyed our stay with the great weather, water, and the ice cream shop at the end of the driveway. There was plenty of room to run around and plenty of space for the adults to relax. Thanks!
We had an amazing family vacation at this location. We rented the 3 cabins for our large group and fit perfectly. Check in was super easy, the hosts provided all necessary information and everything was clean. They provided a lot of fun extras like children’s books and games, kayaks and a canoe along with life vests. They also provide a wagon that’s great for unpacking your vehicles and bringing things to the beach. The cabins had all necessary's utensils, pans and dishes. There’s also a restaurant and ice cream store within walking distance. A general store is a quick drive for anything you may have forgotten. The hosts are very nice and quick to respond to any questions. We would definitely recommend staying here!
This is a wonderful property— right on a clean swimming lake with its own beach, two little cottages each with their own screened in porches, plus kitchens and a big big lawn. We stayed there with several family members — 6 adults and our 1 and 3 year old grandkids. Perfect for us. The lake and sandy beach are great for kids because the water is so shallow, sandy and clean. It was great for adults too. The big lawn gave the kids lots of running room and they loved the bunk rooms. We loved sitting outside or on the dock or on the screened in porches with Edison lights talking or reading and listening to the loons. The fire pit was great— our littles enjoyed their first s’mores. Thank you, Shaina, for sharing this special place with us.
NORTH POND HAS HAD AN ALGAE BLOOM 4 OF THE LAST 5 SUMMERS!!! For those of you that don’t know – YOU CANT SWIM IN THE WATER.
We learned this the hard way, we stayed this past week and it was hard to explain to my two young kids that they couldn’t swim in the pond in our backyard.
We were devastated as the cost of these cabins was hefty, but to add insult to injury, we rented a boat, which was an additional expense, and literally the whole vacation hinged on water sports (ie: tubing, skiing, etc).
The accommodations are lovely and well appointed, but I can’t conceive of not letting renters know that swimming is dangerous – we felt misled and frankly lied to.
Shaina was lovely until I asked about the bloom. She then provided what sounded like a very canned statement that read it is ok, except for babies and dogs. Well, that unfortunately is not the case, the bacteria is dangerous and the state of ME advises: NO SWIMMING. Full disclosure, she did offer $700 back, but frankly that pales in comparison to the cost of the cabin which are advertised as water front property. Another few issues for renters to be aware of: there is a lot of broken glass on the beach and the cabins are very hot. We knew going in that the cabins didn’t have air conditioners. We picked up a small window unit thinking we could overcome that issue, but the windows are crank, so it is hot and there is very little air circulating. We made the best of it, but not being able to tube, ski, or swim was awful.
We had a great time. Property was beautiful. The lake was beautiful. And the communication was great. Only downfall was my kids got bit up by something in the water almost like a sealice. Pretty badly. Def suggest rinsing off after. Also it was quite warm some of the days and nights and you can't have the French doors open to let air in as the bugs are really intense. We shopped at hannifords and cooked most the time. We did have the tri Pond cook us lobster and we just picked it up and brought it back.. Very amazing. We visited Houston Brook Falls was so amazing. Also the Moxie Falls had a great swimming hole. We went on a day trip to Acadia National and took the Sand Pond route. We didn't take the shuttle we drove our own vehicle while there. Highly suggest Maines Botanical garden it was amazing. They have hidden huge trolls and a park for kids and even rental carts for those that can't get around as well. One regret was red eats famous for their lobster roll. We waited in line 3 hours and it was not worth it. Def would love to visit again. The stars are beautiful at night around the fire. My kids loved playing kids charades. Thanks for this accomadating property.

Family time before college drop off
The view of the lake is beautiful and the loon was perfect, but we did not have drinkable water and for the price of cleaning and using only the Loon it was overpriced for the stay.
Our family of 18 (7 kids, 11 adults) had an amazing 3 night stay for our parent's 50th anniversary. It's so tough to find a property big enough for us all and where we can have our own space but the lodge and two cottages were perfect for our family. The property is even better than the pictures and the new lodge is incredible. Everything was super clean and well stocked upon arrival. The bluetooth speakers were such a nice touch that I haven't seen at any other rental. The yard is massive and there is plenty of room for the kids to run around and play, while still feeling quite private. The homeowner was super responsive with any questions leading up to and during our stay.
The only slight bummer (not any fault of the homeowner) was that despite the water being crystal clear, the lake had an algae bloom when we went so there was no swimming allowed, which we were not aware of beforehand. But good to know that you may not always be able to swim, so plan for other backup activities. There are lots of other lakes around that were okay to swim and we spent one day at another lake. However we were able to use the kayaks and canoe, and spent lots of time on the dock as well as bringing our own small boat as there is a boat launch on the other side of the lake. When you can swim, I'm sure the small beach is incredible since it has nice soft sand to walk into the water.
We would definitely love to come back in the future, the property was absolutely 10/10 for our family.
It was perfect for two families vacationing together. We each had our own cottage which was great. We made use of the kayaks and canoe on the beautiful lake and ended our days at the fire pit. Even when it rained we enjoyed the outdoors on the screened in porches. A great time was had by all with many memories made. Would definitely recommend this place.
This is a gem of a property! Our family of five (including kids ages 3-9) vacationed here with family friends (who also have young kids) and we had such a lovely experience! The two little cottages are well designed and laid out. There is plenty of space and they are well appointed with all essentials--we were wanting for nothing. The screened in porches were so lovely for enjoying quiet mornings and the beds were comfy (especially the queen).
The property as a whole is so quiet and peaceful. The expansive lawn was absolutely wonderful for our kids to run, play sports, make up creative games, and just be kids enjoying leisurely summer days. The fire pit was wonderful for evening fires (plus stars were vibrant in the evenings!) and the double picnic table was perfect for group meals. The lake was beautiful and so peaceful in the background. It's a very short stroll down to the water which is equally beautiful and peaceful. The water, which seems to most often be clear, was murky when we were there thanks to some unfortunate timing of an algae bloom. It had cleared a good bit on our last morning there (and would have still been safe to swim in while we were there) but during our stay we chose to go to other lakes to swim to be extra cautious with young kids (who are prone to swallowing water as they swim/play). The surrounding lakes do have some public swimming spots which we enjoyed, but be advised that they are largely rocky bottom, not a true sandy shore entry despite being titled "beaches." Helpful to bring water shoes for kids!
We also thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon spent at the Alfond Municipal pool in Waterville (about 25 minutes away). It's a bit pricey ($56 for our family of 5) but had great swimming options for kids of all ages and also a couple of super fun water slides. Other highlights of our trip included the French Mountain Trail hike (easy .8 mile loop, great for kids, beautiful views) and the local ice cream place essentially across the street from the property.
This was such a delightfully summery vacation spot! It has all the necessary modern conveniences and comforts but feels off the grid which really provides an opportunity to unplug and recharge. Hosts were wonderful--kind, gracious, and communicative. We would highly recommend this little gem and hope to return!
Wow! This place was magnificent. The listing includes both cabins, making it perfect for two families to enjoy together. The cabins were cozy and beautifully decorated. The kitchens had everything needed for cooking meals and eating at the cabins. Just outside the door is a large, grassy yard. Our children ran and played all day. It was the perfect space for kids. The pond is down the hill, a very simple walk, but far enough that I could let my toddler run in the yard without fear of her getting in the water. The pond was fabulous! Shallow, so great for our young kids to play in. Canoe and kayaks available to enjoy. The sunsets were beautiful. Ice cream shop across the street from the end of the driveway. Everything about this property was incredible. If you are considering staying here, do it! You will love it.
The whole family came along on this trip, kids, teens and adults. Not a single dull moment was had. Whether we were kyaking, lounging on the beach overlooking the beautiful skies, playing baseball in the large grass area or relaxing on the hammock or by the fire pit, it was just an incredible experience! the cottages were absolutely adorable and had everything you needed to make you feel at home. You can tell the owners put a lot of time and effort into making sure you had a wonderful experience. By far one of the best family vacations we've had and we will be back for sure!!!
The Smithfield cottages were clean, beautiful, and had everything my family needed to be comfortable and have fun! If you are looking for a nice getaway at a beautiful spot this is it!
The property is well maintained with all the facilities. The location is amazing. With drink of your choice in your hand , facing lake front one can enjoy beautiful sunset across the lake. Kids enjoyed a lot in the lake, canoeing. Best thing was the neighbor was hospitable and kind enough to provide a boat ride for us. Thanks a ton to them :-)
We loved everything about our stay here! The pond was great for swimming, kayaking and lounging. The houses are decorated adorably and had everything we needed. We loved using the outside picnic tables and fire pit at night. The country store at the end of the road was great for grabbing snacks and breakfast. We also loved going to the roller rink on Wednesday night, so fun!
This location is perfect - you've got a lot of your own space, but you can easily walk to the country store and the ice cream stand. The lake is shallow so the water is warmer than you'd expect, and it's crystal-clear.
We just spent 5 days and 4 nights at this wonderful property and highly recommend it. The hosts were very helpful and responsive but we didn't have to ask about much, everything was perfectly explained and laid out. We had a combination of adults and kids staying. There was plenty of room for everyone, it's the perfect place for groups of friends and families. The beach and shallow water were great for the little ones while the older ones spent lots of time in the kayaks and on the paddleboard we brought. The location is perfect too, within walking distance to a cute general store and delicious ice cream stand. And a bigger variety store was right down the road. Next time we'll also plan on making use of the old-school roller rink next door. We're already thinking of a next stay, thank you for the wonderful time!
It was lovely. The amenities were great. The mattress and linens were excellent. It was nice to have TV on the rainy days. The people in the town of Smithfield were welcoming and friendly. We especially liked the owner of the corner store. We even saw an Elvis Impersonator at the Grange Hall. Just to top it off we kayaked to Pomleau island and saw three osprey, a gaggle of geese, a raft of loons and ducks. Also the neighbors had nice doggies.
Two families, my husband & brother & kids stayed together for 5 days.
It was a fantastic stay at these two cabins on the lake. The cabins were well equipped (kitchen) and nicely decorated. We really appreciated the super comfy beds and soft linens.
The lake and sandy beach were a wonderful starting point for adventures on the lake and wildlife viewing. We also appreciated the
We loved staying at this property! Very clean and well furnished. Can tell recently updated and remodeled. Great for families. We loved having coffee in morning on enclosed patio looking out on the lake. Lots of activities to do; games, books, kayaks, canoe, fire ring, outdoor seating provided. Great communication and information provided by hosts. Would definitely recommend and love to stay again! Thank you!
