Gotland has a long history that stretches back thousands of years and is centered around trade and culture. Thanks to its location in the Baltic Sea, Gotland has been an important trade connection between the Nordic countries and Europe since the Viking Age and especially during the Middle Ages, which in turn led to exchanges of language and culture. Therefore, do not miss any of the many historical guided tours offered around the island. Especially Visby, the island's largest city, has a lot to offer in that way. Just strolling forward on the old cobblestone streets can give the feeling of traveling back in time.
For those interested in art, there are also many studios, galleries and shops to discover. Gotland is mainly known for its textiles, lamb is the animal most often associated with Gotland and therefore the work with wool, leather and textiles has also been so. There are also plenty of artists in glassblowing, potters and concrete designers, and they are happy to let people in close by and show them how they create their art.
There is also a lot of nature and the hiking and biking trails are many. Hike along the sea and through rauka areas or cycle along small winding roads and discover small cafes or lamb pastures. The size of the island and the amount of bike paths also make it easy to plan a longer ride.
