This rustic yet modernized cabin is positioned at the top of a rock face/cliff and boasts beautiful views in every direction, including the magnificent red bluffs seen on the Trail of the Mountain Spirits. The cabin has a wrap-around deck that is wonderful to watch the sunset from, as well as a multi-level rock patio area that opens up to views of the bluffs.. Location is within walking distance of Lake Roberts, Spirit Canyon trail, and the Gila National Forest.
We give our guests privacy, but are available if needed via messaging. Please let us know if there is anything on the property needs our attention.
The house is located about an hour north of Silver City in the quiet community of Lake Roberts Heights. It overlooks a small Lake Roberts neighborhood in the valley below. There are a few homes that are further up the gravel road that runs by the house, so a few cars per day may pass by the cabin (though some days there will be no cars going by!). It's a quiet area, so please keep the noise level down as those who live out here enjoy the peaceful environment surrounding them (and we hope this is what you are also seeking!). Definitely no parties allowed.
The Lake Roberts General Store are is about 2 miles away (on the other side of the lake) and is open seasonally (April-September). The 4Seaysons RV & Country Store is located about 13 miles east toward Mimbres and carries a pretty good supply of basics, homemade ice cream, delicious burritos, and fishing supplies/bait.
You can walk to Lake Roberts through the Upper End Campground that's about 1/4 mile. Spirit Canyon Pictograph trail is just a few hundred feet from your doorstep... as is the Gila National Forest.
Steep climb up Jennings Lane from Highway 35. We recommend a 4WD. During winter conditions or periods of heavy rain, the road will definitely require a 4WD.
The home is one level with a wrap around deck. A multi-level patio has a combination of stairs and ramps.
This lovely modern cabin will give you central access to hiking in the Gila National Forest and Wilderness; fishing at Lake Roberts; soaking at the Gila Hot Springs; or exploring the Gila Cliff Dwellings.
The cabin has lots of natural light and is a pleasant uplifting place to "breathe" and relax. The kitchen is full-sized with all amenities to cook, bake, and eat. The kitchen opens into the dining area with an open floor plan that then opens into the living room (equipped with a wood-burning stove in addition to central heat).
The first of two bedrooms has a California King bed along with a closet and door opening onto the wrap-around deck; and the second bedroom has a Queen bed and a closet. Both bedrooms have views of the valley below. The first bathroom has a standard walk-in shower. The second has a jetted tub/shower and also includes the laundry facilities.
The sun room is located off the living room and includes two daybeds for additional sleeping space. This area has windows all the way around for lovely light during the daytime hours or stargazing at night.
The outdoor spaces... a deck wraps around the south and west sides of the home for lovely sunset views. A great place to enjoy a glass of wine or a beer after a day of hiking, fishing, biking, riding, hunting, bird watching, or exploring! The multi-level rock patio on the east side of the cabin provides amazing views of the red rock bluffs on the Trail of the Mountain Spirits or a fabulous place to grill on the gas BBQ grill in the evening. A beautiful Kiva fireplace is also positioned on this patio.
The nearest large airports are El Paso TX (3-hour drive) and Tucson AZ (4-hour drive). However, there is a small airline (AdvancedAirlines.com) that flies into Grant County Airport in Silver City from Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles at a very reasonable rate. Rental Cars are available at the Grant County Airport through Silver Car Rental at 575-574-2350 (must reserve in advance).
Grant County Airport is about 50-60 minutes from the cabin.
Please take note that this is a fairly remote location. It is an hour from Silver City (32 miles); 19 mies to Gila Hot Springs; 24 miles from Gila Cliff Dwellings; and walking distance to Gila National Forest and Lake Roberts. The nearest gas station and grocery store is in Silver City, so be sure to bring food and fuel up on the way up!
Also please note that the road up to the cabin is a steep climb for a several hundred feet on fairly loose gravel. We recommend a 4WD. During winter conditions or periods of heavy rain, the road will definitely require a 4WD.
