Our stay was amazing. The cabin itself was clean and spacious. It easily slept 10-12 people. The hosts were extremely friendly and hospitable. We will be returning at some point when the weather is clear.
Very nice house and property. The location is great for children with lots of room and three ponds and Clara creek. Good for adults too. Great for star watching. Everyone had a comfortable stay and a great time.
The property was the perfect size for a group and very comfortable! The landscape was beautiful and the house had a homey feel. The three bathrooms were large and the laundry was conveniently located.
The location and property were amazing. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the views and the atmosphere. We fished, hiked and just had fun hanging out. The host was extremely responsive with the few questions we had and we couldn't have had a better experience.
This property met and exceeded the needs of our party! We received quick response to our questions and the location was perfect for housing 10 of our 15 family members for a Holiday get together.
The property was clean and as advertised. The owner greeted us on the first day we arrived. The mountain view was breathtaking. We took walks on the trails, fished in the pond and sat around the fire pit at night.
Beautiful setting for the family (10 people & 2 dogs) to relax by the fire hang out and celebrate the new year. The hosts were friendly and responsive.
The Gasthaus is a great place to visit to relax, walk and read. It's rural location limits distractions. The property is well maintained, clean and full of character.
The lodge was a great place to stay and had everything we needed. My impression from the Vrbo ad was that it stood alone on 120 acres, which wasn’t the case. There were three ponds near the house but it wasn’t clear if all three were on the property because another house stood near the largest one.
Overall, we had a very good stay.
We rented this place as a weekend getaway to celebrate our mother’s 70th birthday. It was the ideal setting for family bonding. We spent hours enjoying cornhole on the deck (we brought our own boards), exploring the property…so many great spots for family photos, and we loved the large kitchen table that we used to play cards on well into the night. It was clean, comfortable, and serene. We plan to go back again soon.
What a perfect place for a larger family to stay!! We came together for a 50th Anniversary party. There were 9 of us total. We had PLENTY of room in this clean and cozy lodge! Would definitely recommend to anyone! Absolutely enjoyed staying here!
Their is plenty of room for the whole family and is a great place to see stars and the milky way. I only have one issue, the glass front doors did not lock properly. They could just be pushed open.
Very nice rural lodge, well supplied with amenities. Mary, the owner was very nice and there is a nice pond with kayaks, etc. Two negatives are, no air conditioning and a few 1 inch lips in the floors on which kids and older adults might trip on. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for family reunions except in the heat of the summer.
Our multi-generational family wanted to go on vacation to a place away from tourism, hustle, bustle and noise. This was perfect. Biggest tourist spot - Coudersport Ice Mine. Most hustle and bustle - deer grazing in the hillside field. As for noise - the music of birds singing and the far off sound of the fountain running in the property’s pond. It was a wonderful place for our long distance family to reconnect.
It is a very unique country living experience. Open view and the scenery are beautiful. If you are looking for quiet place to escape city life otherwise it is far from everywhere. Going to grocery shop at least 40 min away. Other than that it is a comfortable place to stay and have everything you need. So if you prepare your trip in advance. Then it should not be a problem for this location. We enjoy our stay in general.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Gasthaus! The spacious layout is great, the kitchen is stacked, and the furniture, including the beds (and especially the pillows) are super comfy. I was glad that the provided linens were very clean and of very high quality. The only negative comment I heard from my kids all weekend was from my 6-foot-tall son every time he banged his head on the wood beams!
We went to Cherry Springs Dark Skies State Park and saw a lot of meteors with it being the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower. During the day we spent some time walking through the giant concrete remnants and exposed rebar of the Austin Dam Ruins and were intrigued to see up close the destructive power water contains. In the town of Austin, we found Big Mike's Dairy Dine and got Perry's homemade ice cream which I highly recommend the Coffee and Donuts and the Salt & Sun flavors. We would definitely want to stay at the Gasthaus again!
My family stayed here while attending a wedding nearby and everyone was extremely pleased with the spot and very comfortable (7 adults, 3 kids, 1 pup). We had the entire house and had plenty of space. Food etc was picked up en route, but we also took a quick trip to Port Allegany which was about 25 min away and had all that was needed. The GastHaus is clean, comfortably furnished and the bear was a big hit. Plenty of showers, towels, and we had Pandora/Spotify on the tv to lend some tunes. We had beautiful weekend weather and spent a lot of time outside enjoying the property and visiting the horses. Steve's communication was excellent, as were the directions/hints for checking in, and we were glad to chat with Jeremiah before departure. We had no issues with anything at all and really appreciated our stay. Next trip to the area, we hope to stay again! Thank you!
My husband and I with two other couples and our dog stayed a week at the Gasthouse in late winter/very early spring. We hiked, walked, cooked, played games, did puzzles and hung out by the fire. Overall the property was clean and we loved the location. The size of the house was nice as were the number of rooms and bathrooms. Due to the cold weather we did not get to use the outside fire pit or sit out on the porch but the outside amenities looked very nice.
While we had a good time on our visit there were a few things someone looking to stay at the property may want to take into account. These were not huge issues for us, but they were impactful to the overall quality of our visit. First, we brought our corgi Lili with us on the trip. The house rules are that dogs cannot be in carpeted area of the house and we followed that with no problem - additionally this was clear in the listing so we expected it. only the bedrooms are carpeted and we were able to put Lili's crate just outside the door on the first floor and leave the door open. She tolerated the minor distance from us overnight very well. The information binder also states that dogs are not allowed on the furniture. This was unexpected and much more difficult to do. Lili is used to sitting with us at home and it was a huge hassle to keep her on the floor. The no dogs on the furniture policy was not clear in the listing and would have been a deal breaker for us if we would have known ahead of the rental.
The second issue was the amount of comfortable seating in the house. The house sleeps 10, but there is just a couch and loveseat - seating a total of 5. we had to bring a chair in off the porch for our sixth person - making it an unpleasant game to see which of us got to sit in the uncomfortable chair when we were hanging out.
Third, we had a difficult time figuring out the heating system. There were instructions in the information binder but none of the thermostats seemed to work like the information suggested. This led to temperature swings in the house from 59 degrees the first morning we got up to almost 75 the last evening in the house.
Finally, while the kitchen was the best stocked we have yet run across in terms of cooking and baking items (which was really great!) there was not enough toilet paper or paper towels. We had to make an emergency run into town to get both at one point. Of note, we did not bother out host with this...
Three generations converged on the property to celebrate family and birthdays. The Gasthaus was very clean and had a well-equipped kitchen. The property was great for walks, hikes, and places for the grandkids to run around. Roasting marshmallows over the firepit created and brought back memories. The soaking tub in the Master was great for grandkids' bubble baths and grandma's indulgent soak. The only downside was intermittent water pressure in the upstairs bathroom. The washer and dryer were beneficial when one suitcase did not make it off the plane! Communication with the owners was prompt. They even came to the lodge to let us know the Northern Lights were visible!
We really enjoyed our stay, the house was very clean and well appointed. We did a lot of cooking and had everything we needed. We elected to stay at the house and stargaze and it was perfect could see the milky way and lots of constellations. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed here 2 different times now and love this place. It’s cozy and lots of room. The outdoor wrap around porch is a bonus. Very comfortable and the owners are amazing, making sure our stay was perfect.
