Travelling for work on my own, I was excited to stay here given the reviews. Although the setting is beautiful (more later), my arrival was anticlimactic because the owner wasn't there. My key was, but the welcome wasn't.
The room was huge. The amount of space was fantastic - I couldn't have asked for more. A long sofa and big wardrobe added to the practicality in there. The bed was on the firm side but comfortable. I slept well.
The en-suite bathroom was a bit less good. It smelled like damp towels and the shower tray had huge lumps out of it, where the surface beneath was black. Not great.
On the other hand the towels were nice and the shower itself was lovely. Powerful and hot. Small bottles of shampoo and body wash were provided; enough for two showers but a couple will need to ask for extras if you shower morning and night.
The lounge and breakfast room are large and welcoming. It's a real home. I get the feeling I didn't see it at its best because the owners were completely absent the entire time, sending a parent to take care of the basics instead, or leaving the place unmanned. I'd have liked to be able to ask about refreshments, even if I had to pay for them.
The location is very, very pretty. It's a pleasure to drive up to.
The breakfast was generous and tasty. The bacon was a particular highlight. An 8am start is a bit late, though, so be wary if you're on business. I'd stay again, but only for leisure and only if the hosts actually hosted.
