BlackSands at Shelter Cove is 4 Story, 3300 ft Luxury Home on the Lost Coast

BlackSands at Shelter Cove is located 1/2 mile from the famous Black Sands beach on the Lost Coast. This is a great house for multiple families to enjoy their time in Shelter Cove.

Here are the top 10 reasons families with kids will LOVE BlackSands
1. They love to explore the 4 levels.
2. They LOVE the hot tub!!
3. They love LOVE the bunk room. Whether playing games, watching a movie or drawing on the chalkboard. It's great to take all the kids and put them in one room
4. They love the 400ft game room. Wny?? video games, 65-inch tv, dartboard, ping pong, movies, games, and the chalkboard.
5. They love to explore the woods around the property.
6. They love to play in the back yard. The artificial turf looks like grass but not. It is soft and clean so your kiddos don't get all dirty.
7. They love to ride their bikes/skateboards on the street in the front. On any road, with cars, you need to think safety first but you can have peace of mind that this road is pretty quiet.
8. They will love going to the tide pools and beach. Collecting abalone shells, which you can see displayed all over the house, is a favorite activity for our children. You can make all sorts of craft projects with the shells.
9. They will love watching movies in the great room with a huge TV and awesome surround sound.
10. They will love hiking the Lost Coast trail from Black Sands beach or walking through the redwood forest.

More info about the house:
The house faces the south, so it gets direct sunlight for most of the day. The house is newly constructed and finished in Jan of 2020. The architectural style is unique, in that it is built almost entirely of concrete, including stamped concrete radiant heated floors. The house has 4 levels and 3300 ft2. We are about 300 feet above sea level and 1/2 mile from the water, which is just far enough from the water to have a safe place for kids to play and you get better weather (more sun, less wind, and fog) , but you can still hear the sounds of the waves below. You are surrounded by a beautiful view of fir trees and lush green vegetation from the wetland that extends in the back of the property.

As you pull up to the house you will see the entrance and a patio to the right. You enter the house on the 4th level, which is a 400ft game room. Here is a favorite spot to hang out and enjoy a game of ping pong or throw darts. There is a 65 inch TV that is ready to hook up your gaming system. Also, a floor to ceiling chalkboard is great fun for the kids. This room can also serve as a 5th bedroom and has a queen futon that is pretty comfy. This room can sleep 2.

You enter the main part of the house and descend several stairs to the 3rd level. The house has an open concept, so you are looking down into the great room and see the 5 massive windows that provide views of the forest and wetland. Overlooking the great room is the desk that is custom made from a slab of Walnut. You will have access to the 27inch mac for any work that you need to do during your stay. You will see many accents, railings, and shelves that are custom made from local hardwoods. Also, you will see the 25-foot walls in the great room, clad with shiplap. The room has an open feel to and is the highlight of the house.

Going past the desk leads you into the Master Bedroom. Here there are windows with shutters that open to the great room below. Also, a balcony off the master bedroom overlooks the backyard 20 feet below. You can listen to the waves from Black Sands Beach and watch the stars that are fantastically bright on the Lost Coast. The room has a king-size bed and a couch that opens into a queen bed. There is a 55 inch TV and the room sleeps 4 comfortably. The bathroom ensuite in the master is very nice with a soaker tub, his and her sinks and a large walk-in shower with a multi soaker shower panel.

The stairs lead down to the main level of the house (level 2). Here you will see the Great Room that features power reclining couches and a 75 inch 4k TV with 7 speaker surround sound. We love to watch movies or listen to music. The sound system is connected to Alexa for voice commands, "Hey Alexa Play Johny Cash".

The Kitchen extends the great room and has a massive island that is a favorite spot to watch the chefs cook the fresh catch of the day. The kitchen has all the amenities to cook a great meal. Also the great room as 2 kitchen tables, seating 7-8 at the main and 6 at the smaller. The total sitting spots including the coach and island is over 20. The dining area has a slider that leads to a covered balcony where you will find the BBQ and views of the forest. A spiral staircase just off the side patio will lead you to the back yard and 1st level.

Back through the great room leads you past the front door and entryway to the guest room and second bathroom. The bathroom is clad with shiplap and has a bathtub and shower. The guest room has a queen bed with a view of the forest. There is a 55 inch TV. The room has a reading nook that can also serve as a twin bed and can sleep 3.

From the main level, you go down to the first floor. Here you have the bunk room. A large barn door separates this bedroom and is a great spot for the kids or a family. The room has 2 bunk beds (full on the bottom and twin of the top). There is an entertainment system to watch TV or play movies on a 55 inch TV. The room has a super comfy carpet and a chalkboard on the wall. The sliding door leads you to the backyard. This room sleeps 6 and there is space for a queen air mattress.

The room next to the bunk room is the 4th bedroom and has a queen bed and another reading nook that can serve as a twin bed. This room also has a 55-inch tv. The sliding door provides great views of the backyard and forest.

The bathroom on the first level has a shower with multi-panel massage jets. The room adjacent to this is the boiler room. Here is the system that heats the house. The heating system wouldn't normally be something to mention in a rental but this system is pretty cool. There is over a mile of pex tubing that runs under the stamped concrete floors. There are 4 zones in the house, each controlled with a Nest thermostat. The feeling of warm floors under your feet is really nice after coming back from a day at the beach. You can control the temperature of the house from the nest app or Alexa. We can remotely turn on the heat to your desired temperature prior to your arrival.

The backyard has a covered stamped concrete patio with a hot tub to relax after a day of the tide pools. Also, a 600 FT2 turf lawn is a great place to enjoy a game of corn hole and is perfect for kids to play around on, without getting dirty. You don’t have the worries of being too close to the water if you have little kids The grass is enclosed by a fence and is about 4 feet above the wetland.

A fun place to spend Christmas
Our family rented Black Sands at Shelter Cove (property ID 1846899), looking to do something different for the Christmas holiday. We had five adults, four kids from 11 to 16, so we need something roomy and comfortable. The Black Sands house fit the bill perfectly. The kitchen came well equipped with everything we needed. The kids made good use of the ping pong table and video equipment in the game room. The sofas (family and game room) were very comfortable. There was a roomy fenced in area off the bottom floor, a real plus for pets. The house's heating was in the floor, which I was a bit skeptical about, but worked very well; and there were nest thermostats throughout the house for different areas. There were lots of entertainment options – TVs in each bedroom, the family room, and the game room, and an excellent stock of DVD-blu ray movies. The hot tub got use too, especially by the kids. The house is close to Black Sands beach and overlook, a fun place to wander around and a great place to watch a sunset. We also had a great time exploring the tidepools and the beach at Mal Coombs park. The hosts, Jon and Katie were very helpful and responsive. We communicated via text and e-mail, and they replied quickly. We did run into a toilet problem in one of the three bathrooms and they had someone out to fix it the day after Christmas, which we appreciated. All in all, the Black Sands house helped make our travel Christmas experience an enjoyable one.

Absolutely beautiful
This house was perfect for our vacation! The beds were so comfortable, there’s space for everyone to gather in the kitchen area but also enough privacy. The host responded quickly to any questions. My husband, 3 adult sons and I were there to see the Redwood trees - wow!! - can’t even describe how beautiful they are. The house is also so close to black sands beach which is breathtaking. The general store had everything we needed for our stay and we also visited the local brewery which was great. It’s very difficult for us to align our schedules to take a trip so it has to be special-this is!! We all agreed this was absolutely one of our best vacations. You will not be disappointed!

Great for families
Our families had a great time. The kitchen area and open seating was great for kids and adults. The backyard with vegetation was so nice for sitting in the hot tub and playing corn hole. While the walk up from the beach was good exercise, Black Sands was wonderfu. Shelter Cove is a nice find.

Lovely house with many amenities
We had 11 family members for a week! Everyone slept comfortably in the many bedrooms. The kitchen was big enough to accommodate several “cooks” at a time. With multiple floors, nooks and outside areas, there were plenty of places to gather and places for personal time. This house offers comfort and ease.

12 of us Stayed here after completing the Lost Coast Trail. The house was roomy enough for all 3 families to enjoy Thanksgiving and a few days of rest and relaxation. The game room was great except only 1 dart worked. The hot tub was nice but reheating after draining took over 12 hours not the 4 hours mentioned in the video so plan accordingly if draining. Would stay here again if ever in Shelter Cove.

Our group of three couples had plenty of room to spread out, but we really enjoyed the kitchen / family room area to dine and hang out watching TV or playing games in the evening! The floor palm was very open and unique! The area was in a quiet neighborhood and we were able to walk to the nearby Black Sand Beach! We also traveled up through the Avenue of the Redwood Giants and walked several trails in the State Parks that are in the vicinity! The Redwoods are a sight to behold! If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this a great area to visit!

Beautiful property moments away from black sand beach
We had an amazing time here. All three couples had their own floor. There were tons of options for entertainment - hot tub, TVs, great kitchen, game room. All bathrooms came with modern temp controlled shower heads. In vicinity of good hiking and a mountain bike park. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a beautiful, serene getaway tangential to the woods.

Beautiful setting, Quiet neighborhood
We stayed at Shelter Cove as a family reunion-type event. There is ample space for a large group to spend time in this comfortable and relaxing home. Everything was in order - large kitchen, bedding, towels, multiple recliner chairs, equipment for activities. Our teens enjoyed the ping-pong table, projector screen for movies, and the hot tub. The neighborhood is safe and quiet. Lots of beautiful trees and oceanscapes. Hiking and tide-pooling very nearby. The Flakolls are very responsive throughout the booking and stay. Offered many recommendations and guidance on what to do, where to eat, how to get around. The whole experience was easy to navigate and the escape to the beauty of Humboldt was unmatched.
