Once featured on the hit HGTV show House Hunters (season 131, episode 4), this recently remodeled family cabin is beautifully tucked at the foot of towering evergreens in Shaver Lake. Here in the East Village - one of the town's most spacious, desirable, and private neighborhoods - you can spend your days out on the water and come home to play bocce and cornhole on the private 40-foot court. Light the gas grill and prepare dinner in the fresh mountain air, and spend your evenings gazing at the pristine night sky from the comfort of the front deck.

What's nearby:
This darling, 1,050-square-foot cabin is located on Aspen Road in the East Village of Shaver Lake, a five-minute stroll from the main village restaurants, bars, a market, cafes, and shops. The lakeshore and the Dorabelle Trailhead are within a 10-minute walk, allowing you to swim, fish, hike, and kayak with ease. If you do decide to use your car at all, you'll be a scenic 19-mile drive from the ski slopes of China Peak Mountain Resort. The natural wonders of Mono Hot Springs are 39 miles northeast, and the southern boundary of Yosemite National Park is 59 miles north.

Things to know:
Free WiFi
Full kitchen (without a dishwasher)

A 4x4 is not required in winter, but it is highly recommended (cars must have chains or snow tires at the very least)

Great birthday weekend
Our kids got us kayaks for our 60th birthdays. Now that my husband has caught up (hooray)we wanted a close /good location to take the kayaks out for the first time, walk to dinners in town and then enjoy mountain nights on a pourch. This cabin was just the place. It was clean, comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. We would stay again.

Dirty used feminine hygiene products all over the front deck, trash all over, trash-can was not emptied before arrival, no propane in bbq, bbq filthy, dirty linen's, used towel inside bed under blanket and filthy coffee maker. Hot water only worked in one bathroom.

Disappointed
Here we go. The bathroom with the tub had a dirty floor, toilet, and when taking a shower the tub would leak. The other bathroom shower only go semi warm water max. The dishwasher had a load in it, whether that was clean or dirty, who knows. The Router and Modem was under the master bed on my side. Sweet, never saw that before! Really, under the bed. Hope the radiation and waves didn’t harm us too much. Speaking of bed. When I moved the comforter, crumbs and hairs. Moved the sheet down and more hair in the sheets. I slept in sweats, a hoodie, and snow socks, on top of the sheets, so the only skin touching were my hands. Ridiculous! Sent pictures to Vacasa, who manages, starting Thursday and still haven’t heard anything from the local team, and it’s Monday. So ridiculous and unacceptable.

Perfect for a weekend getaway.
We really love the location of this cabin. A short hike to the lake or 10 min walk to town but we did not hear any commotion from the main road. The layout is the perfect size for 4-6 adults. Cornhole and fire pit area are a nice addition to keep kids occupied. The small heater worked well but it was not too cold outside. Stove, microwave, everything you need. I just had to go get matches because the lighter was out of liquid. A potato peeler or pairing knife would would have been a plus but obviously that is being picky. Really they have so many cooking utensils, dinnerware, extra blankets, tons of towels, and even a toddler chair for eating. We had the best time. Thank you!

If used in winter need provide more information as all outdoor items are not available.
Beds were what you would expect from a rental but not the most comfortable -kitchen supplies such as paper towels and trash bags are very thin -website says gas fireplace but is actually an electric fireplace that does not work When vacasa contacted took many hours to get a response (thank god there was another heating source) received a canned response for how to light pilot light. Company does not take time to actually know about the properties they are representing and respond appropriately External: - roof over entry way is visibly cracking and separating under weight of snow. Seems like a hazard - 2 weeks prior to our stay we realized how much snow the recent storms left behind and contacted vacasa regarding safety concerns. We were told under no circumstances could we cancel and that as long as roads were open would be safe. So our assumption was that they would not allow guests if it wasn’t safe conditions. Upon arrival we were hopeful because roads were plowed and most driveways were plowed. Unfortunately ours was not. It appeared that there may have been a half hearted attempt to clear a smallish space in driveway however, it was just ice and sludge making it very slippery. There is an incline to get up to what is supposed to be stairs to enter the home. There was no effort whatsoever to plow the entry way. How they expect people to get safely from their vehicle to the front door is beyond me. We had to haul our luggage and belongings up hill in the snow. This was a Huge safety hazard as we had a very pregnant person with us and a toddler. 3 of our five guest fell and another sunk waist deep in the snow and took great difficulty to get him out when trying to get to front door and lock box. - None of the listed amenities were available such as corn hole, bbq, firepit etc. - I truly believe vacasa does not have the safety of their guests as a priority and would not recommend renting from them or this property in any sort of inclement weather. It’s too bad because the home itself is beautiful and with a little care from vacasa could be an amazing vacation spot.

The house was comfortable for our family. It was a good bonding time for us and our boys.
The house was cute. There is no A/C which is fine, we just had the windows open at night. The surrounding area was quiet and very close to town.

Cute cabin!
We were impressed with how cute the cabin was, it looked just like the pictures. The cabin was clean and tidy. Great location and walking distance to town! The neighborhood it’s in, the East Village, is a nice neighborhood and quiet. They have a lot of plug-in fans available as there is no AC unit in the house. Beds were comfortable. There are several chairs on the patio, and around their outdoor fire pit area. The bbq they have is very old and has seen better days, but it still works! They do have a small area on the north side of the house where you can play corn hole, however the corn hole boards they have are falling apart and not playable…so we had friends being there’s up! In the kitchen they had a few normal essentials, but bring you own foil, baking sheets/pans to cook with. The pans in the cabinets were nasty and left unwashed, and the baking sheet we covered with our own parchment paper. OVERALL this is a good cabin to stay at, and we plan on staying there in the future.

Great cabin in an awesome location!
One of the best locations we have stayed in at Shaver Lake. Cabin was spacious enough for our family of 4 and we still had a spare bedroom. Our kids loved it! Close to town and shops and just a short drive to the lake and China Peak. We had the best time.

Absolutely perfect location and cabin. The kids loved playing in the snow in the front yard and the neighborhood was very quiet. Clean, cozy, and nicely updated. Wish we would have booked an extra couple days for our stay.

Nice place for family getaway
The house worked well for our group. There is no en-suite room (if that is important to you) and the beds were comfortable. The house is very nicely remodeled. The fire pit circle was a nice place to sit and make s’mores and chat. The neighbor even piped over and brought some wood and asked that we please make sure the very bright front light was turned off (we were happy to make that happen). We would go back to this place. A few things of improvement: Cleanliness- when we arrived we found some empty water bottles by the fireplace and the plant, not gross but makes us question the cleaning that was done. The cabinets are pretty disorganized (LOL not a big thing but it was hard to find pots and pans and the lids to cook with). There were no check out directions, we have stayed in many VRBOs around the world and we usually have some direction on where to put garbage. The ones really annoying thing is that I saw people mention the BBQ didn’t work so I called to make sure it was going to be in working order for our visit, the manager of the property told CS it was working and when we went to use it, you guessed it, it didn’t work. Even with the minor issues We would go back. Now since I did the review I get to see how they manager reviewed me.
