Stunning location but hotel is a work in progress
First visit to Gambia and although we realised the star rating system was not on par with the UK it fell well below on many aspects. In its defence the manager has only recently taken this hotel over and things were improving even during our one week stay. The staff are lovely and the location is as good as the photos suggest. The description of a 'wellness' centre is not terribly accurate. It needs to sort out the water system as most days we had to report that we had no water and they then did something (possibly diverted it from elsewhere) before we could have a shower. There are no safety deposit boxes, very basic breakfast (instant coffee; I'm afraid I love my fresh!), no welcome information, no menus and so the restaurant is currently empty at night times. I have indicated I wouldn't recommend it as it stands, but if the manager does everything he has said he is going to then it is a lovely idyllic place to relax.
