Wonderful location close to the hikes and sight seeing spots we had on our bucket list. The house was very comfy and had everything we needed for a memorable weekend. And for an added bonus there is a great book selection here!
We had an amazing time staying at this property. Everything was very clean and tidy. We got to do lots of hiking around the area as well as visiting different caverns. Communication was also great between us and the host. This was a great vacation and we had such a wonderful time here!
Excellent location for hiking, climbing, sight seeing, walking, caving... The home has all the comforts you need. Forget your phone, email, TV... unplug and relax.
We loved our stay here! The property was super clean and had lots of extra little touches that made it feel like home. Communication with the host was amazing. They gave us a few great recommendations to explore in the area- which we checked out and loved.
This property is clean and just what we needed for our family of 5, the only thing I would change is the sliding door to the upstairs bathroom be a little bigger to fully cover the doorway. But other than that it’s great.
We stayed at the Heydt Homestead over Memorial Day weekend as a base point for some adventures in the area. We stayed with my dad, father in law, and 3 year old son. This was the perfect spot with plenty of quiet around to relax and enjoy each other's company. Super close to Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob.
Highly recommend!!! We absolutely loved it! Owners are extremely responsive and prompt! Place was clean, well appointed, and beautifully decorated. Photos don’t do it justice- So quaint, yet roomy and bright. We would love to return!
This home was perfect for what our family was looking for - a clean, comfortable base from which to explore the local area. Everything was as described in the listing and by previous reviewers. Garrett was quick to respond to questions we had. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a getaway in the West Virginia mountains.
My family and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Heydt Homestead in Seneca Rocks. Garrett and Isabelle's house was just as advertised, and provided more than my family and I needed as we were there for some skiing and Canaan Valley exploration. You could tell the work they put into renovating this old farm house. With three upstairs bedrooms, it easily fit our family of four, while providing the space downstairs for play and eating.
My friend and I had an amazing time in West Virginia. We wanted to visit before shipping out for basic training, and had the time and views of our life. More importantly, the Heydt Homestead was a very relaxing and nice place to return to. It’s in a great location relative to things to do and places to see, while still being secluded enough that neighbors don’t keep you up at night. The home was amazing, and we are beyond grateful we had the pleasure to stay here. Thanks! - Elijah & Brandon
Well worth it! I've been traveling to these mountains for most of my life. The location is less than an hour from some of the most desirable attractions in the West Virginia Mountains. I'm on track to complete the WV Waterfall Trail. The Holy Grail was the Seneca Creek Falls. We started at Spruce Knob and hiked down to the falls and back. The cabin had everything we needed. A comfortable and quiet location with every amenity.
My friends and I were going to a wedding in Petersburg so we decided to make a long weekend trip out of it and stayed in Seneca Rocks. This house was just perfect! It’s quiet, cozy, and stocked with all the necessities. Honestly, we didn’t need anything other than our own personal items and food. The hosts have thought of everything! The beds are comfortable and the shower is great. The ground level is more spacious than it appears in the photos. That was a nice discovery. The house is centrally located to many local attractions: Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole Caverns, and Spruce Knob. There’s a local grocery store and restaurant only a 7 min drive away. We were even able to take a drive into Davis to go to Blackwater Falls State Park. And since the wedding was in Petersburg, we spent an evening there for dinner. It was all made even more perfect with the responsive contact with the hosts. We ran into a little issue at the house (totally our fault) and they responded so quickly and were so very helpful. If I could give more than 5 stars on this review, I would!
The house is exactly as described and more. We enjoy cooking in and we were able to easily do that. There is plenty of baking dishes, pans and tableware. The gas grill had everything you needed for grilling. We enjoyed dinner at the table and deer came up to the fence to watch us while we sat there! The beds are extremely comfy and all the linens you need for the beds and showers are there, trust me there is plenty! We enjoyed the fire pit every night, firewood was provided, that was a wonderful surprise to have! This home is beautifully decorated and extremely inviting. The location is right in the center of it all. Seneca Rock Trail and Spruce Knob are within minutes, we recommend Spruce Knob Lake for kayaking, it's small but you will not be disappointed. Smoke Hole Taverns is close too. The road is narrow and windy, but it is freshly paved, you will not have any troubles. Take the road slow and enjoy the view. We came with a big truck and could take the turns just fine. Questions are answered very quickly by the owners, excellent communication and if you ask for suggestions on things in the area, they were able to provide that too! You truly do not want to miss this place, we were very happy with our stay!
We LOVED this house! The owners were so easy to get ahold of and talk to and made sure we were taken care of. The location is the BEST, the photos do not do it justice. We were close to everything and had such an amazing time. Can’t wait to come back! :)
Loved our stay. Plenty of space for 5 people. Quiet. Deer and cows next door. Close to Seneca Rocks for climbing. NO CELL, or TV, just want we needed, as we chatted and chatted for hours.
Will go again and recommend to friends!
Very quiet house. No televisions, no noise, no distractions. The house had everything we needed. We appreciated the little details. The only thing I gave it four stars on was the fact that it did have quite a few cob webs in the corners. Besides that, everything else was clean. Thanks for a great weekend. We will be back.
Everything was perfect! Our hosts were totally awesome and available and we had no problems with the rental. Even some things we didn't bring were supplied - baking/ cooking supplies, candies in the cabinets, foil and saran wrap... All the little things were already taken care of. House was beautiful and the photo book on the table told the story of its remodel.
We stayed over a long weekend to do some hiking and exploring and the location was great! We were able to see Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, Smokehole Caverns and Canaan Valley all within a short drive from the homestead!
These are awesome people who rent out an awesome property that was just what we needed! Love, love, love!
Last minute booking for recuperation after Firefly Music Festival and it was just what the doctor ordered. Wish it had been available for longer! Lovely location with larger neighboring farms. Very thoughtfully equipped and finished home; I especially appreciated how well set-up the kitchen is. Great proximity to outdoor activities - Dolly Sods was stunning. Love to return and explore further. You could come here, never leave for a week and just enjoy the property or spends months exploring the local area every day. Thank you for sharing!
What a great place to get away and spend some time in farm country. Surrounded by farms with cows, horses with deer and all kinds of other wildlife moving thru. Not far from the main road to get to Seneca rocks and central to spruce knob and dolly sods. Even took time to drive over to caanan valley and blackwater falls. Would recommend this to someone who wants to get away from busy life and decompress from all the news of the world. Still have internet access to research the area and stay up on the weather.
