There is plenty to do and see all year round within an hours drive!
Spring: The world-renowned Skagit Valley Tulip Festival runs the entire month of April and is known to have more tulips than all of Holland (or so I've been told, lol). We are located a short 30 minute drive from the beautiful fields.
Summer: Many guests stay for the easy access to the North Cascades National Park, located about 1 hour east of the cottage. It is a peaceful scenic drive that parallels the Skagit River. On the way, is Baker Lake, about 30 minutes east, known for great fishing. We are also a great lodging option if you are traveling the Cascade Loop Scenic Byway. To the north up Highway 9 is access to the Mount Baker Highway, which leads to beautiful waterfalls, hikes, and viewpoints. To the west along highway 20 are the towns of La Conner and Anacortes, both great for quaint shopping and dining experiences, whale watching tours, and charter fishing boats. Anacortes also hosts the ferry servicing the gorgeous San Juan Isalnds (ferry reservations required in advance especially in peak season). Highway 20 west will also lead you to my favorite park in the area, Deception Pass State Park, about one hour away. Views from the bridge connecting Fidalgo Island and Whidbey Island are breathtaking. There are many easy hikes with beach access once you're in the state park (Discover Pass required or Day Pass available).
Fall is a beautiful time to visit all the areas mentioned above especially points along the Skagit River if you enjoy bird watching. It's very common to see Bald Eagles soaring over the river and nesting in large "dead" looking trees.
Winter: Coal Creek Cottage is about 40 minutes west of the Mount Baker Sno Park, great for snowmobiling and a day trip to play in the snow. The Mount Baker Ski Resort is about an hour and a half away via Hwy 9 North. In addition to the ski slopes, there is a large sledding bowl, great for all ages! Come back to warm up at the cottage with the cozy fireplace and relaxing hot tub (coming first week in Sept. 2023).
We live in an absolutely gorgeous area with tons to do and see all year round! Please know Highway 20 through the North Cascades closes annually due to road conditions in the winter. It is usually open mid-spring through mid-fall, depending on weather/road conditions.
Guests have full access to the cottage with a separate driveway, private entrance, fenced yard, patio, and playset. Upon arrival, look for the circular Coal Creek Cottage sign. During your stay, please do not walk around areas of the property not listed above, thank you.
Our cottage is not ADA compliant but if you need zero-step entry or more room for parking, just message the host to arrange prior to arrival. Once inside, there are 2 steps up to the bathroom which features a walk-in shower.
We live across the driveway and can be reached most of the time in person. We are happy to come help with anything you may need! If you need something and we are not home, our housekeeper is two doors away to help as well. Messaging through the Airbnb platform is best, thank you!
Coal Creek Cottage is part of our 5 acre property. It's in the country 7 minutes east of Sedro Woolley on a quiet street that overlooks the Skagit River Valley. There are tall cedars and wildlife ranging from deer, elk, and various birds.
Due to being in the country, a vehicle is best for daily travel.
We live on 5 acres. We have horses, chickens, cats, and dogs. The dogs and cats are not always secure but not to worry, they are all friendly, especially our 1 and 1/2 year old mini Australian Shepherd named Freckles. She is high energy and likes to give "hugs" (she jumps up and wraps her paws round your waist, lol). We are careful to keep her close when guests are here but she occasionally gets out of our sight line. We apologize in advance of that happens! Please message if you'd like to pet the horses. They are friendly as well but the fence is electric and don't want anyone getting hurt.
-Do not leave pet(s) unattended, clean up after them, and keep them off the furniture please.

-Please take shoes off while inside.
-Upon check out, please load and start the dishwasher.
-Make sure lights are turned off, heat is set at 65 in summer (70 in winter), and doors are locked.
Thank you!
