Great value and location, poor operation
This was our 4th stay in Sebatu; previously at an adjacent but now closed property. We chose Uma Kelod due to it's location, solid and modern appearance and great value tariff. The room was adequate, clean and well maintained. It had only basic facilities - a jug with basic coffee and tea, a regular TV, adequate AC (but no fans), and a small bar fridge. Free WIFI is available and very good. The bathroom was well appointed, but our hot water service did not work for the first 7 days. The room was serviced every few days. Bed linen was good quality. Towels were very worn out and need replacing. There are no cooking facilities available, although there are now several very good outlets available in Sebatu. We highly recommend Warung Sebatu for great food at local prices. The free breakfast was adequate but never delivered at the 0730 requested time, and often very late. This made tour planning fraught.
Overall, the venue itself was good value. However, the property was very much let down by it's inadequate staffing. Day-to-day operations were by a couple of 20-something lads. Reception was rarely manned for enquiries or complaints. We had to complain twice to get the hot water looked at, and they didn't check that the replacement unit worked after installation. Breakfast was always late as above, with the used plates often left all day. Toilet paper seemed to be rationed; no spare rolls were left after room service. Overall, the venue is okay but not great.
