Was not able to check-in
We were never able to check-in at the Brighton Guesthouse. I called the provided phone number twice and left two voicemails, neither of which was returned. I texted the provided number, but never got a reply. I received an email saying that the booking was confirmed, but on check-in day there was no booking listed on my Hotels.com account. I had to stay at a Motel 6.

Liked: Cleanliness
The place is very clean and quiet, but I feel it is misleading to call it a "hostel." It is rather a cross between a self-serve airbnb and a motel.
There was no one there to great us (as one might expect with a hostel) and we let ourselves in as we might for an airbnb. We were the only ones in the house (although there were four other locked rooms), so it felt odd to walk into the space and find no one else there.
The neighborhood is fine and it's a short walk to the metro, but the place itself could definitely be made more welcoming (a bit of landscaping would help). What might have once been a front yard is a paved parking lot, which is what made it look like a motel.
Lastly, I sent several texts (one before arriving and one regarding a confusing sign about the electrical plugs in the room); these were answered the next morning, unlike any hostel or airbnb I've stayed in.
Initially I was concerned as I was not familiar with the area, and it looked a bit rough, but the neighborhood did not matter because the owner makes sure the home is secure. Even taking extra precautions to ensure that the front door lock and your room lock is secure, and you have your own parking spot. The house was close to shopping, and it was easy to get to work as I was out of town for a job. The bed was comfortable, I had one of the rooms with my own bathroom, and the kitchen was shared. There were other guests there, and all were friendly. We socialized, talked over dinner, and everyone retired to their rooms. Was a pleasant experience.
The property was not kept up. Weeds in the parking area and the back yard wasn’t mowed. The floors in the common areas hadn’t been cleaned for days as was apparent by the dust bunnies everywhere. Our room itself was ok, but the floor once again was dirty and the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned well. The bathroom rug infront of the shower smelled very bad and the shower wasn’t clean and leaked all over the floor.
The inside in general wasn’t clean to the standard of renting to the public.
The good thing I must say was the other guests. They were all very kind and pleasant. One gentleman even helped me with a flat tire I had even though it was late and hot out. Thank you J.
It is close to the metro, and fairly close to shopping and restaurants, but better if you have a vehicle. The A/C worked well
Shower and bathroom was cramped. Would like to have a re-cycle bin. Better would be to have door draft covers to keep hallway light out of the room. Really would have liked to use the laundry room. Also would be nice to have cleaning wipes in the kitchen as it's shared. Overall would recommend.
Arrived at the airport to find that the phone number given was not in service and no actual address. I was stranded. Expedia was no help at all and left me speaking with a computer that kept saying, "I understand ".

I don't know whether there have been security issues here previously, but I found the precautionary measures for check in to be silly, but getting into the room was easy enough. However, for the price paid, room/bathroom could've been cleaner. I think bedding was clean, but super wrinkled. Also, the couple in the room across the small hall from mine could've been in my room, they were so loud til 1am. Guests regulate themselves, but there is no buffer for sound, so good luck.

Brighton Guesthouse
Lee (the host/manager) was prompt and helpful in getting back to me when I booked the place. As far as The Brighton Guesthouse itself: it is a bit dated and could use some updating. I thought it could have been a little cleaner. The floors in my room needed a sweeping/mopping, but overall it was okay for cleanliness. The walls are paper thin, so I could hear snoring from the room next to me. And the bed I had was super squeaky/rickety, and could have been more comfortable. The room is secure with a extra lock on the inside, so that’s nice. I would say overall it’s an okay place, but not worth what they are charging, given the condition of the place and the rundown neighborhood that it is in.
I recently ran into some bad luck and it had unfortunately left me and my family homeless and we had what we could fit in my car that was stolen over a week ago so now we have nothing. It's crazy to think we had friends over for dinner at the end of January. With that being said every place we stayed at looked at us with descus, looking at our daughter like they couldn't believe we could dress her like that. They were rude never listen to us refuse most of our questions and request.BUT this place welcomed up they smiled didn't make us being back an empty bottle of shampoo just to get a new one. They have us water and coffee! It made me cry with know things will get better and that is priceless. Thank you Skyway we can't tell you enough how much we appreciate your hospitality.

Do not stay at Brighton house
This is a very low level, no frills, small space, room. The check in procedure is complicated, the lighting at the entrance is poor. The neighborhood is low level and noisy. With quite a bit of transient and homeless people walking the streets. It’s tucked back away from businesses and any access to any commercial activities. It’s not quiet. People could be heard, checking in to their rooms and in their rooms through the very thin walls. The shower door is so narrow that it’s dangerous to try to walk through . There’s a poor smell to the bathroom as though someone had urinated on the floor and it never really got cleaned up appropriately. There’s no air conditioning of any type. The only ventilation that you can have is by opening a window which has no screen to it . While there are rules posted, no alcohol, no drugs no smoking no noise, there is no one here to enforce those rules and I could smell someone smoking somewhere at home of the property. However, the bed was firm and comfortable and the pillows were nice. I’m not happy with the accommodations at the price. I would not stay here again . There are no posted evacuation signs. The accommodation management did not give me instructions that were clear. As this is a self check in. I didn’t feel unsafe. But certainly if I were someone that could not defend myself from some of the characters roaming around on the streets, I would not feel safe . Don’t stay here.
They never gave me the information to get in. I was homeless in Seattle for a night because of them. I never got help from Expedia either. They just cut me off. Worst experience of my life. I literally had no where to sleep for the night.
