The house itself was beautiful and the view was very nice, and we enjoyed using the kayaks. While there were a few minor issues such as a sink problem, it was promptly repaired the next day. However, we did encounter some challenges such as the WiFi going out on the first night and not coming back on, as well as a smell in the smaller house's water and dog hair in the bedding and on our clothes. Additionally, the blinds could benefit from some repairs as they allowed visibility through the windows, and the wall air conditioners didn't seem to provide much cooling.

Well house wasn't ready for us on time, broken chairs in both houses, steps need repair front and back.Pier was in bad shape and closed off at the end.Lights flickered and wires hanging under the cabinets for those lights .Big water bugs in boat house and the shower water in the boat house had a terrible odor. Not what I expected for the price ,the one good thing was family time together.
Shipwrecked on Shell Hill was a wonderful choice for our family getaway. We had the main house and the boat house at max capacity with a wide variety of ages, and everyone had a great time. Jeremiah was very quick to communicate before, during, and after our stay anytime I had a question or concern.
The small community of Sea Level is far away from town (but has a Dollar General 5 minutes away) and it was such a perfect 2.5 mile loop for a morning jog or bike riding. The yard had just enough room for a couple of games that we brought, and those that weren't playing enjoyed several seating options off the back of the house. Everyone enjoyed fishing off of the dock, kayaking, and going for walks passed the clam business next door (don't go the direction towards The other home with a dock as that's private property) on your beach walk you will be able to find tons of hermit crabs all shapes and sizes!
Things to note: If you have a large group you may want to bring extra towels and large cooking pans. (House did have a Crock-Pot!)
The business next door does not do the best job keeping their space clean, but they were super friendly people and the view out on the water makes up for it!
On days where there is low wind and it's humid the no-see-ums and mosquitoes are out for blood. Bring bug spray.
Overall with a few concerns fixed that we addressed with the owners, we would happily stay again.
If you pay for an expensive vacation there are certain basic things you expect to function while there. When it is 90° outside and the ac is malfuntioning, that is not an aesthetic issue it is an absolute necessary one. 3 of the ac units were making a horrible noise and the only way to stop the insanity was to turn them off. When the host was notified of this i was told that he could do nothing about it and i would just have to deal with it. That was just the beginning of my problems. The boathouse was absolutely uninhabitable and i don't understand how he could put that on his listing and actually rent it out. The inside of the small house was so cold compared to the outside that condensation would build up on the celings and drip onto us. It was like having freezing rain drip on us all night. The part of our group staying there had to move out the first night. Also there was an opening somewhere that misquitoes and cockroaches were getting into and the whole house was infested. I have pictures of the many dead cockroaches we had to smash. So the combination of broken ac, dripping condensation, roaches, mosquitoes, broken swinging storm door that almost chopped our fingers off, and an unfinished pier that contractors worked on the whole duration of our vacation pretty much made our weeklong vacation feel like a weeklong stay in a slum. I dont even know how it is legal for this host to rent this place out. I just want to make sure no one else has to go through what we did.
We really appreciated the property! Having lots of space was great. The home is obviously in the process of having improvements done but we were ok with that. The deck was almost complete by the end of our stay but we understood the delay due to multiple days of high winds and extreme heat. We still fished off the pier and caught a variety of fish such as puffer, black drum, crocker, stingray, crabs and hog fish. Check in and check out was very simple and the host was very pleasant and helpful when needed.
