George Baldwin House Suite

Apartment suite in the George Baldwin mansion. This is for adventurous history lovers who seek an experience unlike a modern renovated home or new hotel room. This is not a luxury property in terms of interior finishes, it is very rustic. There is a Full size bed and a Twin bed. The apartment is mostly original but a few modern conveniences are yours, such as wifi access and a small TV with basic channels. The grocery store is 1 block away, Forsyth Park is 2 blocks away and Brockington Hall is next door. There are 2 flights of stairs to climb to this rental unit.

The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange.

Weekend getaway
This is a lovely apartment that sits only a block and a half away from Forsyth Park. It's comfortable, convenient, and safe. Moreover, it has a unmistakable charm that lends itself well to the Savannah experience. We highly recommend this spot and would most certainly stay there again!

True Savannah
Nice weekend trip with our grand daughter for her birthday. Home is in a great location. It was clean. Bath tub with shower from that historic period so it is small. Furniture antique but we wanted that

Neat House, but Hot Stay
The mansion was super neat. The owners were kind. We did encounter a few large roaches, but nothing we couldn’t fight off. The heat was the most difficult for us to get past. We couldn’t cool off enough to get a good night’s rest the first evening, so we left early the following evening. Showering just felt like a sauna with no air circulation in the bathroom. The torrential downpour plus the Savannah heat didn’t help matters. We just aren’t built for no air flow while sleeping or a way to cool off between outings. If you can handle the heat, this place is worth checking out.

Unique experience
We loved our stay in an historic mansion in the historic district of Savannah. The suite is as pictured but even more impressive in person as you can’t get a full sense of the high ceilings and true antiquated feel of the place from pictures alone. My husband and I were comfortable with the full bed. We felt it was really quite similar to our queen at home. The mattress was a soft pillow top and the linens were comfortable. Also nice were the plentiful pillows throughout the suite which made it cozy. The tub is an antique and narrow but the updated plumbing and small rainfall shower head were thankfully modern. A person with mobility difficulties would have a hard time getting in and out of this tub however. And the staircase getting in and out would be tough for anyone who struggles with exertion. That being said my husband and I, in our 50’s and in good health managed with no issues. You also can’t beat this location, so close to Forsyth Park. If you feel like splurging on an amazing meal I highly recommend Saint Bibiana, an easy walk from the George Baldwin house. Make reservations. Also we loved Collin’s Quarter for breakfast.

Living in history
As other reviews have mentioned, this is not your typical modern lodging. But it was one of the highlights of our trip to historic Savannah. We toured another historic house and felt it was on caliber with the onewre staying in!

Perfect location to be close to everything. Close to the beautiful Forsyth park and went to the Green Market on Saturday there. All the attractions are a short walk away from this amazing mansion. There’s also a bakery very close you have to try if you stay here. There’s also a bar/restaurant in a mansion at the other end of the street I would recommend. The owners are very nice..

So Very Interesting
If you want to stay in a very historic authentic location, this place is perfect. This is not a "faux" historic updated location, meaning the bathroom has historic fixtures, the furnishings are real antiques and there isn't central air. Really quite charming. The location was lovely near the park, so we made it to the Saturday Greenmarket, and the free DOT bus made all of Savanah accessible without using the car. A few cautions: the main bed is a double, so not great for two people and the guest bed in the kitchen is a small twin. The historic tub is small and narrow and a bit confusing to operate at first, and the hot water takes a bit to arrive. The toilet is in a separate room, which ended up being rather convenient. The room is upstairs, which was fine as we had little luggage. The small kitchen is functional and the only grocery store in town is just across the street. To us, it was everything we needed and a bit of real Savannah.

Property is very unique. If you are booking this location, please be sure to read all the information provided on the site. This is a suite with a kitchen in a 140 year old house. It will not be as convenient as the Hilton, however it has much character and is in a lovely area. Property managers are very helpful and friendly. We had an issue with the shower (it was a user problem, not an actual problem with the shower) and called the number for assistance. Spoke with a very nice and helpful person named Sam who was not only able to answer our questions, but was very gracious. Please be aware there are lots of stairs and while there is a window unit, there is no central AC. Our stay was at the end of June and we were comfortable enough with the window unit. There are several restaurants nearby and a grocery store only a block away. If you like old houses and unique experiences, I would recommend this property to you.

It's like going back in time.
Nice and quiet location. I was amazed that so much of the house's architectural detail has survived. My wife and I loved the place and the location is centrally located so nothing was to far to walk or a short drive. If you have never stayed in an old house before and expect a modern hotel than this isn't the place for you, but if you appreciate old world craftsmanship than you will enjoy yourself here. I also need to report that we brought our BlueAir, air purifier because it's an old building, and the air in the bedroom was "excellent". Taking a shower was interesting, but not a really big deal. There was a hair dryer in the shower room. If you plan to cook meals there, be aware that there are minimal pots and skillets. However, there is a small dishwasher, toaster, coffee pot, and everything needed to clean up after yourself. Lovely place, I'm glad we stayed.

This was a very unique place to stay! If you are looking for a beautiful historic home to stay in this is your place! All with the expectation of it being from the 1800s! This was perfect for our weekend trip. The bedroom was a little warm but after the ac was turned on it was tolerable. That aside we loved the home and would definitely recommend and will rebook in the future! Thanks so much for the great experience!

wonderful location, room was good, bed was small for 2, outside private area needs maintenance and updating. wouldve loved to sit outside, but area was over grown, no outside lighting, no cushions on chairs that need cushions to sit on. would i stay again? probably since i know what it is.Been to savannah over 70+ times, all in hotels. I prefer this better than a hotel. Nice and helpful owner.

This spacious, well-appointed studio apartment couldn't have been more charming. It is located in the heart of historic Savannah in an elegant grand dame of a mansion. She shows signs of age, but the owner has embraced that rather than covering it up. We live in a 100+ year old house, and we found the imperfect walls and paint familiar and unpretentious.

My husband and i enjoyed our time. The place is exactly as shown and described. We spent most of the days out but nice to come back to a quiet place. We did run into the owners who could not of been nicer! Coming from a very rural area to a city was enjoyable. Remember the morning train! First time hearing it was eye opening. Only suggestion would be a fan for the bedroom. Thank you for welcoming us into the home
