Matisse, delightful apartment in Sarlat. Ideal for couples. Free WiFi & parking

Ideally located, stylishly furnished, thoughtfully equipped, and private, with beautiful views, you will be glad you booked Matisse from the moment you step through the door.

Matisse is one of four luxury holiday apartments at Maison Pierre D’Or, a traditional stone house on the edge of the medieval centre of Sarlat in the stunning Perigord Noir region of Dordogne in South West France.

Matisse is the perfect base from which to explore the town and its surrounding countryside. It’s ideal for couples, and is within an easy 10 minute stroll into the medieval centre.

Sarlat is a busy, vibrant town with lots of tourists in the summer especially, and if you want the convenience of being in Sarlat and to enjoy the restaurants and markets, medieval buildings and squares, and entertainment, we are perfectly located.

The apartment features a cosy living room, a very comfortable bedroom, a sociable and well equipped dining kitchen, a modern bathroom, and a light and airy conservatory which leads on to a private balcony with a superb view over Sarlat.

Attention has been paid to the details. The apartment has been furnished with great looking light, oak furniture. The bedroom has an exceptionally comfortable, king size bed with fresh, crisp, cotton bedlinen and soft pillows. The shower room has a walk in shower with hot water on tap and fabulous fluffy towels. The kitchen is fully equipped, there is also a Nespresso coffee maker. There are quirky lamps and paintings by local artists, giving Matisse its own unique character.

Oh, and there is free parking on site and free high-speed WIFI. Free high speed Internet.

Free cancellation subject to conditions (see cancellation policy for details).

If your dates are booked at Matisse, please take a look at our other two apartments, Monet and Cezanne

Incredible
We are a Canadian couple who have stayed in many property rentals over the years and we have to say that this property is the best of the best. The apartment is immaculate, quiet, fully equipped, even if you want to cook. Everything works and the lighting is great. It is lovingly and tastefully decorated. And on top of all that, Maggie and Ahm are the most responsive and thoughtful hosts. They go the extra mile to make your stay easy and enjoyable. Just wish there was a higher rating to give them. 5+++

It is a lovely flat in an ideal location, only a few minutes from the centre of town. It is a good place from where to explore the Dordogne, and in the flat was a guide which we found very useful. We had a good welcome when we arrived and enjoyed our stay. We will visit again if we get the opportunity. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Charming apartment within walking distance to historic Sarlat.
Clean, comfortable, well appointed Perfect spot for us. Took daily walks to historic center for dinner and shopping. There is a wonderful market all day Saturdays. We were fortunate enough to have the host tell us about the yearly candlelight walk. Such a treat. Took side trips to Beynac and Rocamodour.

The apartment is exactly as described and Maggie is a wonderful host. The apartment for 2 people is spacious and they have planned and thought of everything you would need.. you can easily walk into Sarlat for food and shopping. There is loads to do in the area and Maggie has put together loads of information for days out. We followed a few of these and had great days. Great location, view, and amenities
What a great location for a base for our time in the Dordogne Valley! The apartment was lovely, the hosts friendly, and there was ample written information to help us with the apartment and environs. This location was an easy walk into Sarlat-la-Caneda old town and there is also a spot to keep your car on the property. The apartment would suit 2-4 people and the view of Sarlat from our terrace was so therapeutic!

This apartment (Matisse) was the best one I’ve stayed in! Maggie and Ahm, the owners, went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. The photos of this apartment show exactly what it is like….unlike the other apartments I’ve stayed in. The selection of kitchen equipment was perfect, the location a 15 minute walk into Sarlat….I just can’t say enough about what a fantastic stay I had. 🍷 to Maggie and Ahm (and Moraig and Mark)! Perfection!

Maggie and Ahm were incredibly helpful both before and during our stay. The apartment is well appointed and has a lovely sun porch where we spent most of our time when we were in the apartment. We stayed for a week and took several all day trips. Sarlat is a good base for that.

Super Sarlat
The apartment is extremely well equipped, Maggie seems to have thought of everything (including a really efficient but quiet fan which was a godsend during the recent very hot weather). The balcony is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the view especially for lazy, shady breakfasts. All in all, a lovely place to stay.

Great Base to Visit Sarlat and the Surrounding Region
We very much enjoyed our extended stay at the Matisse apartment. We used it as a base to explore Sarlat, surrounding towns and other activities (canoeing, biking). It is quiet, yet a short walk to many restaurants and the town center. We could not have had more thoughtful hosts. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

5 days in Sarlat
Lovely place to unwind and relax/recover after 7 days cycling from Bordeaux. All the character and delightful quirkiness of a typical French apartment, including the odd creaky floor and low (for me) doorway stud height. Beautifully furnished. Our hosts could not be more helpful. They went out of their way to obtain tourist information we needed and when we were let down by the local taxi company they actually took us in their own car some considerable distance to the the train station which was located in a neighbouring village. Exemplary service! Excellent location for those without transport. 10m minutes walk into the centre of Sarlat and even less to the local supermarket. Our stay in Sarlat in this apartment was without doubt a very enjoyable experience and comes very highly recommended. Thank you Maggie and Ahmed.

Relaxing Sarlat Apartment
Fabulous apartment. Large enough for 2 people in great comfort. Lovely large terrace to eat out on, and to sit in the sun. Great little conservatory area, where it's a pleasure to relax and contemplate what's on offer for tomorrow's outing. So many stunning places to visit, all within an easy drive. Fully equipped kitchen, which is lovely, and a very comfy bed. Also in the heat we experienced during our stay, the silent fan in the bedroom was very much appreciated. Would thoroughly recommend this apartment, and Maggie the owner is a very helpful and kind host.

Six stars at least! Maggie and Ahm are great hosts, the apartment beautifully decorated with charm and personal touches. Easy walk to old town, quick drive to grocery store. Fully equipped kitchen and the softest bathtowels we have encountered while traveling. We did NOT want to leave.

Highly recommended beautiful suite with wonderful hosts; perfect location to explore The Dordogne
We spent 11 nights in the Matisse suite and felt right at home from the moment that our thoughtful and helpful hosts Maggie and Ahm took us upstairs to show us the light filled charming rooms which make up this good sized suite. The outdoor patio is as beautiful as pictured and is private and the perfect little spot for just sitting and contemplating the beauty all around or having a morning coffee casually at home. The kitchen has all the appliances and pots and pans that you might need to cook your own meals and the Carrefours Grocery is huge and very close by and has all the local fresh groceries, including the wonderful Cabecou goat cheese. However, we also often walked the 10 minutes into the old town of Sarlat to enjoy eating out at the very good restaurants in quaint cobblestoned passageways. Of course, the duck and goose confit and the foie gras had to be sampled in this part of France and our hosts were spot on with their recommendations of excellent places to eat. Sarlat is the perfect centre for sidetrips around the Dordogne with very short drives to Lascaux, Domme, Les Eyzies, Beynac and La Roque Geageac just to name a handful of our favourite sites for history and prehistory. We will certainly be recommending the Matisse suite ( and other suites in the Maison Pierre D'Or) to anyone and everyone who is thinking of exploring The Dordogne area of France. Absolutely wonderful!
The apt. we stayed in, Matisse, is truely lovely. Very comfortable, beautiful views of the surrounding hills, and very well laid out. I can sincerely recommend it to all. Driving was easier than expected. Roads are well maintained and there are signposts at every junction, no matter how small and remote the area. This is a great way to see the area and one can rent a car right in Sarlat. ( eurocars). The train stops here also and is within reasonable walking distance to the car rental place. Trains in France are wonderful and easy to use, so it really isn't necessary to have a car for the whole time. The apt is within easy access to a major groc chain, as well as the smaller shops in the village, if you plan to do some cooking,(which we did a lot of) and the kitchen is nicely laid out to do so. Sarlat is enchanting, with two fun markets weds and sat. And so much amazing history right in this one town! We spent two weeks here and could easily have stayed much longer. We already have plans to go back, and a great part of that is because of Maggie and Ahmed, the owners, two outstanding people. We enjoyed them as much as the beautiful countryside, which has incredible gardens (Marqueyssac!!), castles and chateaus, and fantastic caves and rivers. Lovely stay! Thank you Maggie and Ahm! Wonderful Sarlat
We had a wonderful stay at Maggie & Ahm's apartment in Sarlat. They were excellent hosts and provided we first timers to the area with much helpful advice on places to visit and bistros and restaurants to try the great local food. The accommodation is well appointed with all the kitchen, washing etc facilities and equipment needed for a self catering stay. Our little balcony had great views out over the town and further afield and was a great spot for a quiet 'sundowner' after a hard day's sightseeing. The apartment is an easy 10 minute stroll into the town centre with all its amazing old buildings. The Wednesday and Saturday markets were really interesting with a wide range of food and other products on offer and Sarlat centre is well catered for with restaurants providing excellent meals based on the fresh local produce. Early in our stay we participated in a one day cooking class at nearby Monpechier (Le Chevrefeuille) which really helped in our understanding of the fabulous food of this region of France - we would recommend this to any first time visitors to the region as it 'de-mystified' many of the local specialties. Maggie's apartment provided a perfect base from which to explore the beautiful old/medieval villages dotted all around this region - some with a history dating back to pre-historic times (with rock art to prove it all of which was fascinating). All in all a perfect spot for our 2 & half week holiday in Perigord Noir.
