Named after local Marine Biologist, Edward F. Ricketts, the Ricketts' Retreat House has a classy Monterey Bay feel . Last house at the end of the street with an enclosed private yard, and naturally, you can see the ocean from the driveway. In 3 blocks, you could be at the fire-pits of Twin Lakes Beach, sailing a boat at the Harbor, or grabbing a bite to eat at the Crow's Nest or Johnny's Harbor side. In one mile, you could be riding the Giant Dipper at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Additionally, the famed Steamer Lane surf spot, West Cliff, Capitola, and UC Santa Cruz's Seymour Marine Discovery Center are within a four-mile radius of the house.

The House is furnished in good taste with all essential amenities including linens, towels, and paper products. The bedroom has a new comfortable queen bed, dresser, closet, adjoining the bright bathroom (with windows) and walk-in shower. Kitchen has a new gas stove/oven, a microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, and garbage disposal. Adjoining to the kitchen is a dining area, and the living room with pull out double sofa bed. Gas fireplace with temperature control, 36" Smart TV and WiFi are also present for your enjoyment. House comes ready with a washer and dryer and is essential for beach-goers. The backyard has an amazing hot tub, shower, gas barbecue, outdoor furniture, and the front yard has bistro seating. Parking on street with no permit required, and driveway parking. Enjoy the retreat any time of year.

Great little cottage!
It is small but very comfortable and perfect for a couple. The location is wonderful, quiet and a short walk to the beach. The hot tub was in pristine condition and a nice bonus. We have nothing negative to say about this place and are looking forward to returning.

Really wonderful weekend
The lovely bungalow is even more lovely in person than the photos show! Usually it’s the other way around! The yard is spacious and beautiful; the house and bedroom is cozy; everything you need is available and comfortable. The hot tub is great! The location is perfect. It’s a bargain and we’ll be back. So grateful its pet friendly.

We had a wonderful few days staying at this property. It was clean and well stocked upon our arrival. Loved all of the great places nearby. We will definitely consider staying again when visiting Santa Cruz.

Great location!
This cute, cozy bungalow is perfect! A well-stocked kitchen made it nice to eat in. We enjoyed being off the busy streets but yet were able to get where we wanted by walking. The hot tub was also a pleasure. Glad we were able to stay here for a week.

Delightful cottage!
A super-cute cottage in a great location. Stayed there a month to work, explore, and relax, and this property was perfect. Clean, comfortable, simple. Owners/managers were very responsive. Note that the wifi was fast (300MB) and very reliable, great for remote working.

Lovely cottage
Well-appointed cottage that was easy to access and on a lovely quiet street. The kitchen had almost all the needed items. The yard was perfect for our pups. The bed and bath were clean and set up wonderfully with soft sheets, comfortable towels, and lovely decor. We will be back!

Perfect hideaway
Rickett’s Retreat has been our temporary home for a few months and we couldn’t be happier. The cozy cottage is at the end of a short cut-de-sac and feels likes it’s miles away when, in fact, the beach, the yacht harbor, restaurants, a Sunday farmer’s market, Verve Coffee and greater Santa Cruz are a walk or short drive away. We’ve truly enjoyed our time here and appreciated all the sweet little touches throughout the house.

Great New Year's Beach Vacation!
I had a great time taking a beach vacation break with my dog! I stayed here over New Year's to visit family in the area. The cottage is really homey and clean and walking distance access to the Yacht Harbor, Twin Lakes Beach, the Cove, and Seabright Beach. I loved the very dog proof yard, the hot tub, hammock, and the beautiful large tree! Even in winter, nice sunny, peaceful, place to stay! The neighborhood was quiet which was a plus for me, since I was escaping the fireworks for my dog.

Wonderful weekend
We had a very nice weekend at this comfortable and charming house. The yard was perfect for the dog and it is in an area close to everything. The owners were extremely timely on communications as well. The only problem we had was with the BBQ as it was out of fuel and we realized this too late to do anything about it. We will definitely be staying here again as it is a very nice house to spend a weekend

Clean, convenient, comfy place. Only complaint is the very narrow driveway. I’d recommend parking in front of the house rather than trying to squeeze your car into the driveway. But you can’t always park in front because other cars park there too sometimes. Other than that, it’s a great little getaway in Santa Cruz, very close to the beach & harbor.

This was.a nice small cottage to stay at. Unfortunately we had on the first day of 3 days due to an evacuation notice given by the county. We asked if we could change the dates and use it another time and we were told no. We did not ask for a refund. We thought it might be reasonable due to the circumstances.
