The space
Nestled in the Scottish countryside at the foot of the Lowther Hills, your arrival at Cogsfoot Cottage will take you across a charming bridge which crosses the Crawick water and into the adjoining farming grounds of the property.
Surrounded by open countryside and outstanding scenery, the cottage was originally a shepherds cottage and has been extended and renovated beautifully over the years, the perfect location to relax, unwind and explore all that the surrounding area and Dumfries & Galloway has to offer.
All on one level, the cottage boasts spacious rooms and sleeps up to 7 guests.
The master bedroom has a super comfortable double bed, plenty of storage and boasts in own seating area.
Bedroom 2 has an additional double bed along with a single.
Bedroom 3 has bunk beds and coupled with the cupboard full of puzzles & board games, children adore this bedroom and never want to leave!
The good size sitting room has a cosy woodburner for colder periods and is ideal for relaxing in the evening in front of the TV, but, is large enough to accommodate even the most lively family games nights!
The charming fully equipped kitchen is ideal for meal preparation, for a light lunch or full evening meal the adjacent dining area in the conservatory is a lovely setting for mealtimes as you look onto the surrounding hills. For those times you prefer to eat out, the town of Sanquhar is only 6 miles and a short drive from the cottage.
On sunny days (we get more than you think in Scotland), there is an outside picnic table which is ideal for a quick bite to eat, and an additional 'bistro set' that is perfect for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
The cottage benefits from both a main bathroom and additional shower room. The bathroom has a large separate shower and traditional style free standing bath and is the ideal setting to freshen up after a day exploring the region.
Cogsfoot has a large garden area that children love, it has it's own small playpark and if they take a peek through the little gate they will find their own 'secret garden' with tall grasses and trees to encourage wildlife.
There really is so much to do just in the surrounding areas. Try your hand at gold panning at Wanlockhead Mining Museum situated in the beautiful Mennock Pass. Visit Drumlanrig Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, where you can tour around the castle itself or enjoy a picnic in the extensive gardens while the children have fun in the adventure park.
For those that love fishing, river fishing is available with day passes available in Sanquhar.
For our golfing guests, there are many local golf courses that are ideal for both experienced and beginner alike.
The area is extremely popular with walkers, due in part to the Southern Upland Way passing nearby. One of the favourite walks is the Euchan Walk and if you are lucky you will see the salmon leaping in this tributary of the Nith.
Cogsfoot Cottage is the ideal place for family time and will the place of great memories for years to come.
