San Nari is the Provençal name of Saint Nazaire, Roman martyr of the 1st century AD, to which a place of worship was dedicated to the Middle Ages in the territory of present-day Sanary. A hamlet on the Mediterranean coast, sheltered by a seigneurial tower built around 1300, Saint-Nazaire took off in the 16th century.
The port of Sanary is recognized as one of the most typical and authentic of the French Mediterranean coast. Very old natural port, located in the heart of the city, it has a hundred heritage boats, the oldest dating from 1895, including the famous "pointed" Provencal.
