The receptionist was never on time. At check in we waited for 10 minutes and when we called she said we would have to wait 5 more minutes, that she was on her way. At check out, we waited for her for 20 minutes and had to leave without checking out.

Really disappointing
We were really disappointed with our stay. The manager isn’t there at the office hours that are on the webpage. We had to wait until later than what was told to us as check-in time before we could check in. The manager walked around the passages speaking loudly on her phone and slamming doors until late at night and allowed the dog to bark outside the rooms when we were trying to sleep. We were told that breakfast starts at 9 but it was late every day and was mostly pastries and bread. The sign in the room says that you can check out from 9 but the manager only arrived after this time. The sign also says that they offer a laundry service but when we asked them to assist with our laundry they said they don’t do it. The WiFi is really poor and doesn’t work most of the time. Our shower ran out of soap during the first time we used it and the bath towels had holes in them. The heater in the room also didn’t work.

Carnival gem
The rooms are small, TV smaller and beds were comfortable, juggling 2 adults for more than 2-3 days would be annoying, but we were out of the rooms except for a short rest until night and location was excellent in old city. Also very quiet! Restaurants across the street were great especially Ravillina!

Single Room was tiny.
Single room here is so small, just enough room for a bed. Bathroom is tiny but functional. Room had no ventilation. Had to leave the door open to get fresh air.Really hot too. No windows.

Small room but great staff
Even though our check-in was a bit choppy--the staff were not there when they were supposed to so we had to call them for them to show up--, the couple in charge made up for this with kindness and by offering us free breakfast. The room was clean and the bathroom had been recently renovated. It is important to point out it was very small. I'm only 5'8, and felt a bit tight in the bathroom. So if you're a large person with a lot of luggage, you may want to inquire if they have bigger rooms with bigger bathrooms. The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of the old city, with its restaurants and large numbers of tourists. If you want a more quiet and isolated place (I don't even know if it's available in San Sebastian!), then this is not the place for you.

At the heart of San Sebastian
A pension with tiny room at the heart of San Sebastian, just some feet away from the ocean and all the pintxo bars. Great location, acceptable stay. But high price for a tiny room.

Functional and Clean
Ignore any poor reviews you might see about this place. For the price you pay it’s excellent value, and perfectly located. The staff are attentive but not overbearing, and the beds are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is available if you want it, for a small extra charge, but you’re in San Sebastián, a foodie heaven, so there are plenty of breakfast options to be found. Give this place a go if you’re on a budget, it’s well worth the cost.

In the old town. Location. Location
Clean comfortable room . All you need for a short stay. Stayed 4 nights . We had a middle room, very quiet.room serviced every day. Clean towels. Needed the fan on for airflow. Location was excellent. Staff very polite and friendly and assisted with all our inquiries. The pension has a lift. Bathroom was very clean. Would stay again . Felt safe at all times. It was overpriced.

Weekend in San Sebastián
This was our 2nd stay at the Pension Kaia only this time we invited another six people to join us. Bit confusing at start as booked all the rooms using my name Steve but within mins. confusion all sorted. Look have stayed in 3 and 5 star hotels around the World but Kaia does what it says which is to provide clean comfortable beds, bathrooms that are clean (everyday) and is slap bang in the middle of the top twenty pintxo bars in San Sebastián. Has a lift that goes up to the 2nd floor and management that makes you feel welcome and having problems with translation will phone someone who can talk English for you. It works out at approx €36 per person per night and all the people we invited along (all of us have stayed at some of the best hotels in the world) will be back next year. Great place to stay.

Nicely placed, close to old centre bars, lots of pinchos bars full of people all day. Proprietor does not speak English but you can get by, noisy at night, earplugs may help and thin walls, but a nice area to be in and otherwise pleasant Breakfast served from 9.30, but cannot comment as I was always out by then. I did not like the pillow as it is one piece for the whole bed.
