Charming Ocean-Front House: a relaxed island vibe with all the comforts of home

This unique octagonal house sits at tree top level just steps from the ocean on a quiet stretch of white sand beach 4 miles north of San Pedro; away from the tourist scene, but a short walk along the beach to wonderful restaurants, beach bars and a couple of little grocery stores. This is the ultimate location for diving, snorkeling or fishing, or just relaxing on the veranda looking out at the crystal clear turquoise water. There is a spectacular view of the waves breaking over the Meso American barrier reef, the second largest barrier reef in the world. We are a short golf cart ride to the lively San Pedro scene as well as many restaurants and beach bars along the way. We are located at the entrance to the famous (not so secret) Secret Beach road. The Tree House is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway, or for two couples or a small family. You’ll be living in a house, not a resort or condo, with all the comfort and privacy of home. The fully equipped kitchen will inspire you to prepare fresh caught fish and tropical fruit as you enjoy the ocean view. Both bedrooms have queen-sized beds. The living room is a comfortable place to relax and look out at the ocean. It has a couch that folds out to form a queen-sized bed. There is a 26 inch flat-screen TV with cable and multiple streaming platforms, and a Bluetooth speaker for your iPhone. and a landline. We have FiOS high-speed Internet. There is weekly maid service (or more frequently upon request). We have excellent air conditioning but the octagonal design and floor to ceiling windows of this unique house catch the ocean breezes so that our air-conditioning is seldom needed. Rubio, our caretaker, lives in a casita in the back of the property. You have your privacy, but he is there to assist you if needed. His chickens and friendly dogs give the place a homey, local feel. He will help you set up your kayak, or tell you the best places for snorkeling. The staff at Caye Management, our local management company, can answer any questions or book tours. They are available 24/7 in case of any problems. Our next door neighbor Geni at Coral Divers, is a dive master and tour guide. His boats sit next to our dock. Scuba Daze is nearby and can also arrange snorkeling and diving.
We try to be environmentally conscious and use plant based detergent and a minimum of plastic. Our water supply comes from rainwater stored in a cistern on the property. We ask that you bring a reusable water bottle. We provide a bubbler of bottled water to refill it. Please use the reusable shopping bags that we provide. You can swim or snorkel right off our dock. You can also take the kayaks out to the reef to swim and snorkel. Since they are sit-on-tops, it's not hard to get back in from the water. Or you can drive by golf cart to Secret Beach located directly across from us on the other side of the island. The staff at Caye management can arrange a golf cart rental. It is a great way to explore the island.

GETTING THERE:
Direct flights to Belize City International Airport leave from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta. From there you can take a 15 minute flight to San Pedro airstrip on Tropic Air or Maya Air. Caye Management will book it for you. Or you can take a 30 minute taxi ride to the water taxi terminal and take the water shuttle to San Pedro, an hour and a half ride. A representative from Caye Management will meet you at San Pedro airstrip or the dock and take you up to the Tree House. The cost of transportation to the Tree House is included in the rental.

Amazing
We stayed 7 nights 8 days our stay was amazing! Management & owner are quick to respond answered every question we had along with many recommendations! Rubio was nothing short of amazing also he took care of every need we had & went above expectations everyone has made comments about his dogs we had zero issues one is mouthy & barks at strangers but she never came close to us she kept her distance & barked. She was absolutely fine by the end she said her barks & went away we gave her space & left her alone. The water is so clear rught off the doc we kayak to the reef right from shore of the house. The road is rough but the whole islands roads are rough. Highly recommend this place and Management along with Rubio! We more than enjoyed our stay and hope to return some day!

Treehouse - lovely stay
What a find!! Treehouse is 30 min (by golfcart) from San Pedro and 30 min from Secret Beach. Perfectly located to enjoy beautiful sunrises and a peaceful stay. Caretaker, Rubio, is wonderful and Caye Mgmt. helped with all pre-stay details. Highly recommend.

House was really nice, and we loved the location, short ride over to secret beach and not to bad of a ride back to town. It was nice having Rubio there to help out here and there!

Everything we hoped for!
Wonderful location, we couldn't have asked for better! The house was perfect. The care taker Rubio was great to give us suggestions on what to do and where to eat and having his dogs there helped us feel safe. The property management team answered all our questions and helped us get things lined up for all our transportation needs and helped us know what to expect and where to go. I would suggest this house to anyone and everyone!

Great little hideaway!
The tree house was a lovely place to stay for those looking to enjoy the beauty of Ambergris Cay on their own. We were well taken care of by the owner and management company including rental of our golf cart, arrangement for our flight to the island, and pick up at the airport. Rubio, who lived on the property, was present and accommodating when we needed him, but not obtrusive in any way. The interior of the tree house had everything we needed for a family of 3 including a comfortable living room and well-equipped kitchen (which we didn’t use much). The wrap around porch was fabulous and we spent many hours contemplating the world. The pictures are accurate and the location was terrific for trips to secret beach.

Great home base for exploring Ambergris Caye!
Our family has an amazing time staying at the tree house! Caye management was great to work with and arranged our flight, golf cart rental and transport to the house. Rubio was such a character and so helpful! Our kids loved having the dogs and chickens on the property! The house was comfortable and clean. The location is near the secret beach turn, so a good spot so we could head over there daily. The sargassum was in thick, so we couldn't use the beach or dock area. I am glad we were out of town so it made it easier to get to Secret beach! The house was further north than I expected, but I am glad about that. Overall a great experience!

great house
beautiful place to stay but don't expect to swim too much off the dock. The water is shallow with lots of sea grass. Swimming farther out is a bit dangerous because of water taxi's speeding by. Otherwise wonderful. Would have loved to have bikes available to use instead of the hassle of having to find and rent them, but having a kayak to use was a great start. Gave it 4 stars rather than 5 for these reasons.

Well equipped home, great views, friendliest people!
We had a great time. This is a spectacular property - well equipped with great views. Just close enough to San Pedro for access without the hustle and bustle. Rubio and his family are invaluable to this property. They help with any questions about Ambergris and are constantly helping with everything from bike rentals and dive trips to coconuts and fresh eggs! Genie, just 2 doors down, handled all of our dive and snorkeling trips and was incredibly flexible in accommodating everything we wanted to do and picking the best days for each activity. Each day began with the "burrito guy" providing breakfast and our trips departing from the dock just off the deck. Simply a spectacular trip and wonderful accomodations and people!

Relaxing beachfront escape
Our goal was to rest, relax and spend time as a family. The treehouse provided that opportunity where it was situated and was very comfortable more than meeting our needs. Each morning we watched a lovely sunrise on the porch while listening to the breakers on the barrier reef. We took long walks on the beach and utilized the kayaks and paddleboard together. We prepared meals together or enjoyed a meal at local restaurants. On site, Rubio was kind offering suggestions when we had questions. Also preparing coconuts for us to drink and assisting cooking on the fire pit for our last meal together before leaving. We were sad to go but also very thankful we achieved our goal!

The smell was horrible.
The smell and the beach was nasty and trash everywhere. The pier felt like it was going to break when you walked on it. The water was Not clear so you couldn’t snorkel or swim from trash and seed weed everywhere.

Loved the Tree House
My stay at the Tree House was wonderful. I loved my time there and highly recommend it. House: the beds were comfortable, the Kitchen had most of the basics and the view of the ocean just off the covered deck mesmerized me. One should note that the water does not get more than waist deep until about 200 feet from shore. Caretaker: Rubio is very responsive but also respects the guest's privacy. He kept an eye on us when we were snorkeling in the nearby reef; he listened for our golf cart and opened the gate whenever we came home, and he made recommendations on restaurants. For a very reasonable price, he would harvest and clean conch and, if we provided the ingredients, he would prepare ceviche. The only negative thing I have to say is about Rubio's dog. He has three large dogs and two are very sweet. The third, however, acts aggressively towards the guests or anyone walking past though to be fair I never saw her snap at anyone, it was all just noise. Location: There are no restaurants within walking distance and just two very small grocery stores. You either need to budget for taxis ($40 to town) or rent a golf cart in order to eat out or go anywhere. Activities: The snorkeling was fantastic and I recommend going to Mexico Rocks over Hol Chan. Note that Scuba Daze will pick you up on the dock. We also really enjoyed Caye Caulker and recommend a day trip. Finally, the Tree House is less than two miles from Secret Beach.

Fun at the Tree House!
My partner and I spent the first two weeks of February at the Tree House. I also welcomed my two adult children and a son in law for a week. It was exactly as described. It was clean, plenty of supplies, the beds were comfortable. I was a little concerned about having five adults living in a fairly small place, but everyone had a great time, and the size of our surroundings never caused an issue. We felt very safe in the area and enjoyed being a bit further north on the island. Rubio, the caretaker, took great care of us, in many ways. His knowledge of the area was so valuable. We would have had a much harder time getting acclimated without him. He took the two men spear fishing for lobster -which they loved- and even cooked the lobsters for us that night. Delicious. Thank you for everything, Rubio! Opting for a house, vs a resort, is the choice I always make when using VRBO. I want the privacy, and the flexibility a private home offers. I found it very easy to book private fishing excursions, and private snorkeling trips. Mary, from the management company, could not have been more helpful and patient. With three more people coming and going on separate days, she was able to make all the arrangements without a hitch. Thank you, Mary! When I come back to Ambergris Caye, I will be sure to stay at the Tree House again.

Tree House Experience
All in all, we really had a good time and are glad we went to Belize and stayed in the Tree House. The best part was the view of the ocean, the ocean breezes and Rubio the caretaker. The Tree House itself is a little run down but we weren't looking for upscale accommodations so it didn't really matter. We advise that they upgrade the window and door screening to keep insects out. The decking on the porches could be redone and the dock boards should definitely be redone. The appliances all worked fine, the kitchen was adequately supplied although sparse on spices etc. We felt a little cheated on the kayak experiences we were planning because the seating in the double kayak was broken down and we really couldn't use it as hoped. We were told that new seating was on its way this Spring. Rubio is a gem - he was helpful in so many ways and offered a sense of security that we appreciated. We were grateful for the timing of our trip because the sargassum grasses were just beginning to wash in at the end of our ten days there. We understand that they can get really bad in the Spring making swimming out front unpleasant as well as a bad smell to deal with. For me, the very best part was sleeping at night with all windows open to feel the breezes and hear the gentle waves - heavenly! We're glad we had the experience but not at all sure we would go back again.

Didn't Perform As Advertised
The home was clean, and in a nice setting, except for the constant traffic of golf carts directly in front (between the porch and the beach). The home was supposed to have a kayak. I re-confirmed that fact before renting. The kayak was there, but unusable. It had no seats. The owner called and promised that the seats would "...be there tomorrow." The seats never arrived. The barbeque wouldn't light. No explanations. Be prepared to haul your luggage quite a distance. The boat ride from the airport ends at a long dock about 150 yards from the front door. There was no on-site person to assist with that chore. The only toilet in the home didn't flush properly, and it leaked onto the floor. Pair that with a handwritten message on a small wastebasket with a note to "put used toilet paper here," and you have an idea of the state of the bathroom. When I emailed the owner about the problem, she responded, "What can I say? It's part of the laid-back charm of Belize." Hardly... Basically, this property has potential, the view was nice, and it was carefully decorated. But it was not yet ready to rent. I have used VRBO a dozen times, with great results and honest portrayals of the state of the properties. But not this time.

An exceptional choice for the independent traveller!
My favorite travel companions are my boyfriend and a couple friends we've been on one trip together with before. We aren't picky about privacy and are happy to share the chores of cooking and tidying, so the Red Treehouse was perfect for us. We landed in Belize City at 2:30pm and by 4:30 were on our water taxi to San Pedro, where Armando met us and took us, at our request, to an grocery store with excellent produce options (the Greenhouse) to stock up for our stay. Provisions in hand, Armando then delivered us to the Los Encantos dock (only because Geni, the neighbor, had his dock under construction) where Rubio's wheelbarrow awaited us for the luggage. The transfer was seamless. It turns out that the treehouse is located technically "in town," so close enough to bike, but far enough from town (4.5 miles) to be tranquil. I highly recommend Joe's bike rental in San Pedro, it's the best way to get around, as golf carts have to navigate an insane number of potholes. If you have any mobility issues, as one of our party did, the Coastal Express Water taxi will get you within a a minutes' walk of the property. In the mornings, the burrito/tamale guy rides by with vegetarian and meatatarian options alike, all for a very reasonable price of $5US for two. While we expected to make all our own food, the locally-made tortillas were amazing and we found ourselves looking forward to the call of "Burritos! Tamales!" somewhere between 8 and 8:30am. Be aware that the beach at the treehouse is not ideal for swimming: in fact NO beach we found on Ambergris Caye was ideal. The sea is quite shallow, the sand can suction a water shoe right off you, and the turtle grass is dense. Expect to swim off of a boat during a tour, not from the beach. The treehouse is well appointed, with Wifi and most necessary appliances, although we brought our own electric juicer because we love margaritas :) Also, know that produce is local and never imported, so if it's not in season, you're not going to be eating it--we lamented the lack of lemons and avocados but got over it. We actually brought a cooler of cheeses because I'd read it's hard to find on the island and that is true. The Mata Grande store is a short walk away and has eggs, milk, and alcohol, but not so much produce so plan accordingly. Use the compost bin, conserve water as best you can, and be prepared for power outages which happen with some frequency. A wonderful stay, and an unforgettable experience.

Tropical Caribbean Respite
My wife and I stayed at the Tree House for 5 days during the first week of February this year. We were joined for 3 of the days by another couple. All of us agreed that this accommodation is well appointed and furnished, and it's view of the beach, ocean and reef was superb. Our transfer from San Pedro by 4 mile boat ride went smoothly and was a stunning way to initially experience the coast line. Rubio, the caretaker that lives on property with his family, was very helpful during our stay, even to the point of getting us fresh coconuts for our drinks. We did purchase some fillets of freshly caught red snapper from him that were delicious. The wrap around front deck was a wonderful place to relax and just gaze at the Caribbean blue waters below us, and watch the walkers, joggers and bike riders on the beach path right in front of the house. A vendor does arrive most mornings by bike selling delicious freshly made hot tamales and breakfast burritos. We did take advantage of the sea kayak to go out to the reef about 1/2 mile off shore to do some snorkeling. The water clarity and warmth were good, there were enough interesting fish and coral formations to view to make it worth our effort. The real underwater show was at Hol Chan and the Shark/Ray alley off the south east tip of the island. Spectacular snorkeling. We did book the tour with Geni, who runs a tour boat service right from the wharf/dock in front of the Tree House. His prices were competitive and the guide/boat driver that we had was great. Although lobster season ended on February 14th, we did get the chance to eat that succulent meat on two occasions. One of them was at Aurora's grill by The Mata Grande store just a 10 minute walk to the north of The Tree House. The only "negative" we noted had to do with Ambergris Caye beaches, and not The Tree House. We do believe that it is important that travelers planning to come to this part of Belize realize that you cannot easily swim in these spectacular Caribbean waters. The water is very shallow with the bottom covered with Turtle grass near the shore. There are signs up all over, warning waders and swimmers not to venture past the end of the docks because of potential injuries from boats, engines, and water taxis. We did, on several occasions, cool off in the water at the end of the dock by sitting in it, and there were a few colorful fish under the dock to view. Great place----4 1/2 out of 5, only knocked down for the Island-wide beach issue.

Fabulous time, highly recommend
This was our 4th trip to San Pedro and I will tell you The Treehouse was fabulous and gave us a new and fun experience! The Caretaker, Rubio was so helpful and kind. He caught conch, snapper and lobster for us so we ate like kings all week long. He even taught my husband how to cook the fresh lobster Belizian style on the rustic open fire grill. I really appreciated the well stocked Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc. I cooked many meals with the fruit and veggies that we were able to get from either the convenience store within walking distance or from the grocery stores in town....Pico, seafood stew, breaded fish tacos, fried fish sandwiches and breakfast tacos just to name a few! We enjoyed having coffee out on the deck each morning and beers from the corner store during sunset. We used the Coral Divers company next door to snorkel/dive and then a day trip to Caye Caulker. My husband did two night dives with White Sands Dive just up the road. Caye Management was very responsive and helpful and took care of all the details for us. We had a fabulous time and would definitely consider booking here again!

Great Location, Great Support Staff
Wonderful Hosts and Support from Cornelio/Rubio the caretaker and management people, Trish and Mary, who took care of plane reservations to the island and golf cart rental. Really, really helpful. "Rubio" was ever-present in the event we needed anything, absolutely anything. Location good, few miles from the lively and charming town. We visited to go diving and that was terrific, the dive shop, White Sands, picked us up at the dock in front of the house. Would highly recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay at the tree house. Perfect location that is quiet yet close to town and plenty of restaurants. We went out twice with coral reef divers which is right next door. Great snorkeling and super easy!! The house has a total island vibe, the property is beautifully maintained. Rubio, the caretaker is great and will help you with anything you need. Plus his dogs and chickens are super sweet. Look out for the burrito guy who passes on the beach every morning. Perfect for breakfast or lunch but be on the deck early.

Great Place to Stay
The house itself is very clean and comfortable. But making it special is Rubio and his wife. He provides any help or info needed. He will also provide fresh fish or conch and they will even do the cooking. It is unfortunate that the grocery store and maybe a couple nearby restaurants are not open, probably due to covid. However, it was a fairly minor inconvenience, and we had a memorable dinner at the Sun Deck down the road. I am so glad we rented a golf cart as we made many trips into San Pedro and to other places, including Secret Beach. Caye Management provided free taxi service to and from the air terminal. They also arranged air service from the international airport and delivery of the golf cart. The view is spectacular and it is so nice to sit on the large deck and enjoy it.
