Yucca Yurt

This private yurt on the property not far from the farmhouse features a private living space with a king size bed, and bunk beds with one single bed on top and double bed on the bottom, great for a family or a group of friends. There is electric, a compost toilet outdoors looking towards the peak of the rainforest and an outdoor rainforest shower coming soon. Just a ten to fifteen minute walk to the river, said to be one of the cleanest rivers in the Western Hemisphere.

Things to remember:

- Ubers and taxis can be hard to find, make sure you plan your rides ahead of time. Having your own rental vehicle is advised.

- If you're a light sleeper, bring some earplugs.

- Mosquitoes are abundant especially during the rainy season. Bring bug spray.

- Critters and crawlies tend to sneak in even through the tiniest of holes so do not be surprised if you see one. We do not have any dangerous critters or crawlies living in the rainforest.

-Power and water outages are normal in the area especially during bad weather. We only have back-up power (solar) at the main house. We are in the process of getting more solar panels to power the entire property.

- Our dog Tootsie is a Rottweiler-Labrador mix. She's the biggest sweetheart but she can be a little mouthy sometimes. She's great with kids though! We also have plenty of cats, chickens, ducks and a turkey.

- There is a designated parking area. Make sure you leave space for other guests to park. We're in the process of renovating our parking area to accommodate more cars in the future.

- Wifi is only available in common areas.

this place was a great experience for me and my wife. We had reached to the location midnight but it was slightly hard for us to findout the location of the hut. We got help from a fellow resident who showed us to the hut. it was extremely dark and no lights were there but once we got in the hut it was extremely beautiful with moon light coming from the top of the tent. it was kept clean. and in the morning the views are just breath taking. Showering in the open area in the middle of a forest was a great experience. The only thing that we didn't find pleasing was the cats. even though we had locked the doors in the hut the cats crawled in from a huge gap on the top of the door and hut. we had to cover those with pillows because the cats would constantly disturb us. Other than that if you want a pure nature experience i would totally recommend this place and make sure you take a bug repellant.

Hard to find, harder to get water
We went to three different addresses connected to the listing before trying several different phone numbers listed. The first couple went to voice-mail. The address was not correct, the contact was not accurate, and no check in instructions we received. Eventually I received a call back with helpful directions. Upon arrival the yurt was extremely hot and there was no running water. The property was gorgeous and the pets adorable, but the lack of ability to shower after hiking and then sleeping in a toasty yurt ruined the experience.

Fun, unusual place to stay. You’ll definitely feel like you are part of the rainforest while in the yurt.

Beautiful area, wonderful staff
Great stay at La Casa de Vida Natural! The property was beautiful and the accommodation was comfortable. The staff and volunteers were helpful with providing recommendations, making us feel welcome, and even teaching a yoga class for us! Would definitely recommend for those wanting to connect with nature!

Cool experience
The yurt was a neat experience. Tucked away near the Yunque but not far from civilization and the food truck park 👌 the place was cute, ran a little humid because of the rain but it wasn't bad. Didn't have big issues with bugs or anything, and the property animals were a plus too.

Glorified Camping with a Private Outhouse/Shower
I compare this to glamping...and I loved it! We chose the yurt which is HUGE! King size bed then a double with a twin on top bunk bed. TWO sitting areas and a full dining table. They have a changing screen if you need privacy fyi. The toilet and shower are out back and yours to use solely. I don't even think someone could see you if they had binoculars but there is a door on the toilet and a shower curtain you can pull around if you want. Everything was cleaner than I expected. Bedding and towels provided. There aren't any dishes but they have a a common kitchen area you can use up at the main house where you check in. There is a pitcher and bowl provided for easy rinsing if you need. There are two floor fans that keep it pretty cool at night actually but the day time gets a bit muggy as would be expected. There are rescue dogs and cats as well as ducks and roosters running around. BE CAREFUL the black cat will steal your heart! I was there only 2 nights and I cried leaving her lol! If I didn't live state-side I would've adopted her no problem. Overall I absolutely loved it and would love to go again!

two nights in a yurt
Past reviews have stated that as long as you know what you're getting into, the experience is great. We concur. We also were looking for an experience such as this so we loved it. Our intent in the local area was to spend a day or two hiking El Yunque. The location of this property was ideal to allow us to do so. We also like looking at the wildlife, in this case frogs, lizzards, toads and yes, even bugs. Since the property was located near the forest we were able to spot lots of these during both night and daytime hikes around the large plot of property. We were able to access the main part of the National Forest within a 20-30 minute drive from the yurt. The yurt itself was in great shape and clean save a few lizards that found their way in. No big deal, we just showed them the exit. It was exactly as advertised. I only have one critical comment and that is that the mattresses could have been a tad bit more firm. But, very tolerable for two nights. The yurt is part of a larger complex containing some rooms and a larger house. There are many animals on the property such as cats, chickens, ducks a turkey and an awesome dog named Tootsie. Tootsie is everyone's best friend who doesn't know she is as big as she is! We hung out at a common area when we weren't off exploring. There you can have coffee, tea, etc. although we did not, you could probably cook for yourself in the kitchen. We enjoyed talking with the caretakers and other guests when we were there. We mostly interacted with Jyl and Eunice who were two of the care takers. They were great and recommended many good places to eat and to check out. All in all it is a different place to stay compared to a standard hotel, but that was exactly what we were looking for and we are very happy with the experience.

Staying in a Yurt was very interesting and being located so close to the Rainforest made it even more so! The birds chirping and the overall scenery was absolutely amazing! You have to walk a little ways downhill but there a giant concrete stepping stones in the shape of feet that lead the way so it wasn’t that big of a deal. The inside of the Yurt was so cool and the furnishings added to that appeal. I was in constant contact with the owner and got very good directions. Highly recommend this place if you want a unique lodging experience! Two thumbs up from our family 😉

We had a fabulous 3 night stay in the yurt. We were prepared to “rough it” a bit seeing as how the toilet, shower and running water were outside. We knew this going in. Did not know the shower would only run cold water. The staff and family living in the grounds were great and gave recommendations on things to do. Beware there are HUGE spiders. We had a few inside the yurt and my children freaked out. Also carrying the luggage all the way down to the yurt was not fun as it cannot be rolled. Other than that we had a great time. Would recommend as long as you know what you’re getting into.
