“The perfect stay” This was our honeymoon family get away with our 10 year old and I couldn’t ask for anything better! —-Emjey December 2022

**Recently installed fiber optic, fast WiFi, around 200mbps

Casa De Mono is a secluded, relaxing, ocean view get-away in an eco-friendly community. Our home overlooks the best beaches in Nicaragua; Playa Maderas, Playones/Lorenzo & Playa Majagual. About a 25 minute walk to beach on private road. Or if you want to hit the surf quicker, the drive is about 3-5 minutes and parking is free. Casa de Mono offers sensational ocean & jungle views and is positioned for maximum privacy.

Indoor/Outdoor living at its best, you'll blend into nature and the tropical surroundings. The refreshing infinity pool is PRIVATE - no sharing! Jump in the natural stone shower after a hike or day at the beach. You’ll wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys and exotic birds and will see them throughout the day. Drinks & dinner on our expansive outdoor terrace is the best
**Rental of a 4X4 vehicle (crossover, SUV, Truck) is a must
**We have fiber optic internet! High speed and reliable
**Our local Host will be available during your stay - email/phone. She can coordinate services such as : local chef onsite massages, onsite yoga, surfing/board rentals and so much more
**Maids clean every 2-4 days, we have 24-hour security.
**House Details**
Sleeps 4, each bedroom has queen size high quality beds & mosquito nets. Fully equipped kitchen, a gas BBQ, a private pool, fiber optic Internet, a covered terrace and an outdoor shower. We have a solar system that warms the water and a battery back-up system that will keep the drinks in the refrigerator cold and the lights on if the local power goes out.

**Living room has a Smart TV + hard drive with about 80 movies

**Where we're located**
Casa de Mono is in the progressive eco-friendly community of Balcones de Majagual. We're 20 minutes north of San Juan Del Sur.
Balcones de Majagual was built within a protected forest reserve and is a sister development from the creators of Morgan's Rock. We have monkeys, exotic birds, fascinating jungle creatures, sea turtles, great surf breaks, fishing, hiking, and the best sunsets.

**San Juan Del Sur**
San Juan del Sur is the local town where you can find markets, restaurants and bars. The town is also a launch off spot for many adventures such as turtle viewing at La Flor, Volcano expeditions, Zip-line excursions, ATV rentals, Sport fishing and much more. Of course, a good meal or sampling the local Rum with family and friends while overlooking the bay is another good reason to visit San Juan Del Sur.

**Wildlife**
Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts will love the wide variety of beautiful birds and fascinating jungle creatures. And, Yes, we have some interesting insects as well. We spray the inside of the rooms regularly

**Beaches**
We’re located on some of the best beaches in Nicaragua. Playa Maderas is one of Nicaragua’s best, consistent surf breaks. Majagual is a calm beach that is great for swimming. You can even rent surfboards or boogie boards at the beach and can buy a snack or a cold beer. Playa Marsella is a nice beach that is a short 10 minute drive south. Surf by day or check out the restaurants. It’s a nice alternative to driving to San Juan Del Sur.

Great house in a great location!
My family and I had a wonderful time at Casa de Mono in Balcones. The house met our expectations and the folks that manage the Balcones community took great care of us. Veronica (who manages the property) was very responsive and hospitable. We are looking forward to a return trip!

Peace of mind
This is a very nice place to stay at, if you are looking to get away from the noicy city this is it. It has a very nice view to the beach, cool breeze at night. I really enjoy staying at casa del mono. If you are planning to stay here, just come with everything you may need. No supermarket or stores around. But you can find a few restaurant down at the beach.

Incredible!
Staying at Casa De Mono for almost two weeks was the highlight of a month-long trek across four Latin American countries. We felt so much peace the moment we walked through the doors, thanks to the incredible view (the sunsets are phenomenal). Communication was easy with the caretaker, the workers were phenomenal when they’d come to take care of the pool and clean up, and I felt safe even when I spent time alone at the home if my partner went out to run errands. We saw monkeys almost every day, so many species of birds, and, yes, some unwanted critters (scorpions, snakes), which actually made the experience that much more raw and exciting. We hope to return one day in the near future!

Amazing outdoor living experience
We absolutely loved staying in Casa De Mono. Every part of the house has a view and we thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor living experience. The infinity pool was great and our kids had a blast. The hike down to the beach wasn't bad at all and the beach is beautiful. The kitchen had all the basics and having laundry in the house was a big plus. Gabriel was a lovely host and I was impressed she stopped by in person to check in on us. Overall I highly recommend staying here!

Quiet mountain house
Interesting design and house layout. We were really looking forward to seeing lots of animals, but as I said very quiet. Pool was scrubbed down every day. People were kind and helpful. Very different and very enjoyable.

Another Perfect Stay
This is the second time we have rented this house. This time we stayed for 2 weeks. It is one of the best houses in the area. The beach it has access to is fantastic and very private. There is a restaurant in that beach that serves the best fish tacos we have ever had. Everyday the local monkeys would come for a visit. The one day there were 15 monkeys passing over the house. I would highly recommend this house for anyone!! We are planning our next stay now.

Pros and Cons
The property is beautiful, staff is friendly, sunsets are stunning, and the beach is great! We had a few minor issues that were taken care of promptly with the help of Veronica. And, we had two tasty meals prepared by the local cook, Erica. However, we booked this property because it was listed as secluded (no neighbors, with nature/animals). Most of the 9 nights were spent with earplugs as the neighbors were partying until the early morning (the next villa is steps away from Casa De Mono, which is deceiving based on the property listing). The community has quiet hours, but this is not enforced. Unfortunately, we did not have the restful jungle experience we had hoped for.

Paradise!
Our first trip to SJDS was amazing! From the moment we walked into this home we felt at ease. The views are stunning, and the home is immaculate. We spent hours in the pool and sitting in the rockers enjoying the wildlife and reading books. Home is very welcoming and very clean with everything you need. There were 2 couples and we always had plenty of space to relax. The location was perfect - quiet and relaxing and away from the hustle of town. We had in house massages that were incredible - highly recommend! We also had Jennifer cook in for us on 3 nights and she was amazing! Her cooking was out of this world, and she was very accommodating. This is a must do for sure! Our host, Veronica, was extremely responsive and helped us navigate the entire process. I cannot wait to come back to paradise - I was sad that we had to leave. Thank you for sharing a piece of it with us!

Absolutely Stunning!!
The house is beautiful but it is the view that puts it over the top. There were 4 of us that stayed there (2 couples) in Nov. 2014. We enjoyed our stay so much. Gabby was very helpful and quick to reply to emails during the booking process and preparation for the trip. Shayla gave us the tour of the town and house. She was very helpful and informative. We took surfing lessons from her husband Scott one of the days we were there. It was a ton of fun. The best fish tacos you will ever eat are located on the beach by the house. When you drive down to the beach and are facing the water turn to the left and keep walking till you reach the restaurant (about 15 min). We ate here twice during the week. Get there early because they do sell out of food.

10th anniversary with my love.
Wow! Nicaragua was awesome as well as Casa de Mono! Where to start? First off it was very safe, Veronica was awesome with any help but we tried to keep it to the minimal. Holy monkeys everywhere! My wife loved them, there’s tons of chatty birds around. We went zip lining & I went fishing. It was a bust on the fishing but I had a blast anyway. We went to the beach almost daily, my wife enjoyed watching me make a fool out of myself trying to surf, but we loved it. I definitely recommend taking the surf lessons which I did not. We usually had breakfast at the house, lunch in town & dinner on the grill at the house. We enjoyed getting fresh produce in town, groceries @ Pali market & the machete market down the street. Oh it’s a hike up the mountain to the Casa but so much fun! We can’t thank you enough for letting us stay at your Casa! One more thing the cleaning lady & the pool boy was fabulous, he helped me change a flat tire. I hope we tipped them enough? We weren’t for sure how much.

Beautiful sunrises and sunsets!
Our first experience in Nicaragua was great. If you have navigation service available we recommend you rent a vehicle at the airport so that you have more freedom to explore Nicaragua on your drive to Casa de Mono. Once we arrived at Casa de Mono not only were we impressed with the location, but the house was well laid out and blended in perfectly with the jungle atmosphere. Without disturbing nature too much, you still got to enjoy resort like living. It was nice to have a bathroom in each bedroom, but our favorite part of the house was how well the kitchen, living room and pool connected. We originally had planned to eat in town most days, but our location was so pleasant that most days we made breakfast and enjoyed the sunrise and made dinner to enjoy the sunset. In the mornings it was also lots of fun to see the monkies hanging out right in front of the pool. They were just like us, being lazy and taking in the sun. If you're looking for a beautiful house submerged in a beautiful, tropical environment, this is the place. During our stay the weather was mostly warm, somedays humid, other days perfect. We had one day of heavy rain and beautiful lighting. Since the weather was perfect we got to sit in the outdoor living area where we listened to the rain and thunder and watch the lighting. Oh we do recommend you wear mosquito repellant at all times, where ever you are in Nicaragua, they are everywhere. Also, pack a couple of mosquito repellant candles to light up while your hanging out, they help keep the buggers away. The mosquito situation was due to the time of year we were there, during cooler weather they are probably not around much. Overall, a beautiful place, beautiful town and beautiful views, with an easy walk down to a beautiful beach.

It was all a dream
I'm still trying to wake up from my dream week in Nicaragua. This was my first time in Nicaragua and it was the most magical place I've ever been. Gabby was phenomenal; she set up for Fran to meet us at the airport to drive our rental car to SJDS. This couldn't of been better; I am so glad we did this vs. taking a shuttle to town, or attempting to drive ourselves. He also drove us back to the airport when we left. He gave us lots of good information about the area, where we were, and pointed out different volcanoes, fruits, trees, etc. He answered so many questions! Even stopped off different places we wouldn't of seen if we had driven ourselves. When we got to town, unfortunately, it was dark so we didn't have a lot of time to tour the town/grocery shop. We met up with Gabby and she recommended us order a full chicken dinner that would feed all of us (myself, my boyfriend, my brother, and his fiancé). We then got a few of the essentials from the marketplace next door (mainly tonas) and headed to the house. Gabby drove my sister-in-law and I in her car, the guys following behind us. The road up to the house is very rural; we got to the house and of course couldn't see much because it was very dark but we were already in love. We sprayed our doors with bug spray first thing! We devoured our DELICIOUS meal because we were starving and called it a night. When we woke up the next morning, our jaws just completely dropped. WOW. The view, was so breathtaking, not just of the ocean, but of the lush greenery and beautiful mountains. We heard the howler monkeys and several birds, but it was so peaceful. We drove down to the beach and were stunned; none of us have ever been to anywhere more beautiful and we are all well traveled. It really was the best week ever. The ONLY complaint I have is that we didn't have enough time. This was a great way to get our feet wet, and we WILL be back. The house was perfect. We did see several scorpions, but they didn't bother us. Nights were a little hot, but not enough to complain about. Location so perfect. We felt so safe. We were so glad we didn't stay in town. Surfing every day walking to Maderas. Matildas and Mathis bar cheap beer, great snacky food. I'm already planning trip for next December, however, it will be longer than a week! I'm missing it so bad right now! Nicaragua is a magical, magical place. Can't say enough positive things. Great weather, great food, great prices, I just need to brush up on my espanol!!!

Nice place, some things to consider (Also, birdwatchers report)
This is a swanky and stylish party platform set down in the dry forest in the hills north of SJDS. For those wondering if this is the vacation rental for you, here are some considerations: * It was way too hot for us. However, we were there in the hot/dry season of (I think) Feb - May or so. The pool kept us alive, but the Westward facing patio basically turned into a brick pizza oven from noon to 4:00, with little to no sanctuary under fans or in the shade. (No AC, of course). * The dry/hot season also means the "jungle" is 90% brown and devoid of leaves. As we were there for the birds and nature, this was a disappointment, but may not matter to other renters. Apparently it is lovely green jungle at other times of the year. On the other hand, you get a better view of the ocean, and less bugs during the dry season! * In our opinion, Casa De Mono, and possibly the adjoining Casa Fransesca, are the best places to rent in Majagual. The view is unobstructed and you don't have the community road passing right in front of your house, like many of the other units. You truly will not see another house. HOWEVER, you should note that Fransesca is right next door, and you may hear the occupants. * The pool was private enough to skinny-dip, but the pool guy does show up un-announced, so watch out! * The kitchen was generally nicely provisioned, compared to other houses we have rented. We suggest you bring a roll of paper towels for napkins as that was not included, and don't count on there being salt, pepper, sugar, etc. * The dirt road is not a problem. It is gravel, but not overly rough and not dangerous or risky in any way. The only real issue with the road in is that it adds an annoying few minutes to your drive into town. Rent a Tyota Hilux PU, perfect vehicle for anywhere in Nicaragua. * The birdwatching was weird: not a lot of volume (don't know if that changes in the wet season), but several very interesting solo or pair sightings (pigmy owls, 2 trogons, puff bird, turquoise mot-mot, caracaras, cuckoos, black hawk, and maybe a couple toucans across the valley.)And a troop of Howlers passed by a couple times. No sloth. Not even a scorpion. For additional birding, go to the la Flor turtle sanctuary and walk left at the beach to an estuary. * The beach is nice and you will have it mostly to yourself. You can walk left to the next beach for restaurants. Enjoy ! A nice day-trip is to Coco beach resort. They have a beach restaurant and lovely walking beach.

Casa De Mono “The perfect stay”
Everything about this stay (Dec.4th to 15th) was perfect!! This was our Wedding//Honeymoon family get away with our 10years old and I couldn’t of ask for anything better then this! Beautiful nature all around, from the gated community entrance to the houses, the jungle mountain//ocean view from Casa De Mono and the easy access road to the beach. Lots of butterflies flying everything all around and lots of visitors passing through the jungle around the house like tiny raccoons, sloths, howler monkeys, skunk, scorpions and all kinds of birds. Even is we had lots of visitors everything felt safe! Easy and quick communication with Veronica. Perfect house to just hangout, there is everything you need, the pool is awesome and feels like spending the whole day outside since everything is open concept which we loved! Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone !!! Thank you ~ The Burlock’s

Gorgeous design and great stay
Gorgeous design! Location is definitely out of the way, which may not suit everyone, but helps it feel like a secluded getaway, where jungle meets ocean. The Majagual beach at the bottom of the road was practically our private beach during our 4 day stay, and so gorgeous! Easy to walk to Maderas beach (only when tide is low!) for surf lessons with Rebelde Surf. View from pool was great, especially for sunset. Pool very refreshing and clean. Outdoor kitchen attracted bugs one night but really great to have the open air feeling Atmosphere of outdoor living was great while also protected from the rain

Amazing views
It was exactly as set out and reviewed. The viw is AMAZING. there are many kinds of butterflies, birds, animal to see. We had a daily treat of monkeys and many songbirds. You would think you were the only person on the mountain. The road up is VERY rough. Get a 4x4. The beaches are beautiful but it does take some getting used to to get to them. The kitchen is adequate, and the rooms are decent size. The community is gated and tgere is lots of security. There is an infinity pool. It is not heated but that actually provides refreshing relief. San Juan del Sur has limited groceries, but it has everything you need..

Paradise!
What an incredible property! They have done everything right in the whole of Balcones de Majagual. We stayed at Casa Tranquila but I would go back to try out every place in the complex. They all look incredible and unique. This was our first stop on our first visit to Nicaragua and it exceeded all expectations. We rented our 4x4 from the airport in Managua and had Francisco drive us to SJDS to meet Elsi. I cannot give enough praise to either of them. Francisco was a great driver and tour guide. We continued to hire him for other activities and tours after our initial meeting and would highly recommend to anyone else do the same. Elsi was incredibly helpful upon arrival. It was after dark by the time we arrived to meet her and she sorted us out with groceries and delicious food to take back to the house and made every effort to ensure we were comfortably settled in. We all fell in love with Nicaragua, and Balcones de Majagual as an introduction certainly laid the groundwork. We felt safe but never intruded upon. There was always a nice breeze so the biting bugs were kept at bay. It does take a bit of uphill effort in a 4X4 to get there but the payoff far exceeds that effort. We had great times and delicious food on the nearby beaches and just as great times cooking for ourselves at the casa. We would (and will) return in a heartbeat!
