This property is closed. They took our reservation via Expedia but when we showed up we found it under construction. Added stress to an otherwise wonderful trip to Trinidad.
Stay away from this hotel. They did not honor a reservation that had to be changed due to theno ky road leading to the hotel being flooded and impassable
Salybia is a great get away, I really enjoyed my time there, we were looking for somewhere to get away, and escape from the work and stress. It definitely served that purpose.
The drive there is nice and relaxing, the place is semi under renovation when we were there, but it not take away from our enjoyment.
The kids loved the pool and I must say the chef is quite good as well.
Scenic hotel/resort on a quiet beach with a nice river nearby as well, its actually walking distance! Air-condition could use a replacement, breakfast was ample and tasty.
Way overpriced for the quality of this hotel. Rooms are badly in need of improvements. Walls are dirty, paint is chipping, bathroom is grungy. Linens were decent. Staff is friendly enough but information seemed to get lost whenever I tried to make arrangements. Food was divine but you are limited to only the restaurant on the premises, which is full of local Trinidadian families only. No bars or restaurants outside the premises to enjoy. Beach cannot be swam in. Pool has cheap plastic lounge chairs with no padding. Grounds and views are lovely but that's about all the redeeming qualities this place has to offer.

The hotel has good infrastructure but seems poorly run...a few minor improvements would have made a big difference.
It's a cash only establishment - something that guests should be informed of prior to arrival. I was not.
Bottled water should, if not provided, be available for sale. The tap water was visibly cloudy the entire weekend.
Food is not available after 10pm from the restaurant nor in the entire village. The front desk advised the closest available food for purchase is an hour away in Sangre Grande. Perhaps inform guests of this on your page so they can be better equipped.
The receptionist i spoke to on the phone did not seem interested in answering my questions and the sounds of her text messages could be heard in the background...a little more professionalism perhaps.
The bar claimed to be open until 10pm...at 5pm on a Saturday (in which all rooms were booked) the bartender packed up the bar and never returned. On the Sunday it was never opened.
The buffet breakfast featured a few dishes (mostly local dishes) and whilst I found it tasty a lot of guests were upset with the lack of options.
My room was in the main building and was acceptable however some of my party had a standard room in the villa that came equipped with 3 cockroaches (at least 3 that were seen 🙁)
Overall the experience was adequate.
On the positive side, the staff here are delightful, willing and polite. The food is ok and there is a reasonable selection, but not a gourmands delight. The gardens are very pretty and the views and wildlife are what you would expect in the more rural parts of the Caribbean. However, there is nothing ‘De-luxe’ about this hotel ( which is how our rooms were described on booking). The furniture is cheap, old and tatty, we had broken and rusting light fittings etc. There is no hairdryer, room safe or coffee making and there is no hot water in the evening for the shower. You have to give your key to reception if you want the room cleaned. The air-con is efficient and noisy, it runs all night and a plastic notice stuck to the wall instructs you not to change the settings. The pool is ok but the water fall in the photos is not running, the poolside shower room is not pleasant and some of the loungers are broken and the cushions are old and in places torn and grubby. I appreciate this is not the UK and Caribbean standards are different but the pricing of rooms are clearly based on the availability on the island not the quality of the establishment.

Nice resort that needs more facilities maintenance
Hotel is good, but this was my second consecutive year to stay, but found NO HOT WATER TO TAP OR SHOWER AGAIN. Not sure if rooms are checked for things that are not working. Very disappointed that way
I waited about 5 minutes to be checked in. The young man was on his phone and refused to acknowledge my presence. The room looked clean but it smell like mold and human waste. There were missing lights bulbs which they explained was on back order so they could not replace them. I paid for two nights stay, but I was informed by housekeeping that I was checked out after my first night and was not entitled to room service.
When we checked in there was no one to carry our luggage to our room. There is no elevators and my husband has a knee injury but he had to carry our luggage up two flights of stairs. My husband got electrocuted by the shower head pretty bad. We had to take a bath in the other tub to be safe. After that we checked out of the resort.

Beautiful location
For the large sum of money that they want to stay here it should be a well kept facility but it was in bad need of many repairs
The hotel has a beautiful view and the staff is very friendly and thoughtful. We were upgraded to a king room (which is a very nice room)that has a window seat instead of a balcony. The balcony was the reason we booked the room that we did. We accepted the room and were ok with it. The first thing next morning the woman in charge of rooms got ahold of us to let us know we would be in the requested room by the time we got back. The waitress in the restaurant gave us an excellent local place to go for doubles and anything we asked they made the effort to get us.
The hotel is in a lovely remote area and is worth the extra driving to get there.
The resort could do with some renovations. However the rooms were comfortable, surrounding areas beautiful and the meals were good. The direct tv wasn't working properly but we didn't spend much time in the rooms. All in all, it is a nice place for a getaway.
The stay was awsome as a first time experience .... great service ... friendy staff... nice ambience ....tasty food ...... romantic weekend getaway ... will return again
The room was nice. The view is the best thing on the property. Very relaxing. The property is located on a hill overlooking the ocean and it's very well kept. However you can't swim directly behind the property because of the dangerous under tow.
The staff was nice and helpful.
The food at the restaurant was very limited. Their catch of the day was frozen salmon everyday! They were out of shrimp, crab cakes and half the things on the menu.
The buffalo wings were too sour.

Beautiful place that might benefit from an upgrade
There wasn't much to enjoy at Salbyia. The place was probably grand at one time, but it's run down now and things (especially the rooms) are falling apart. The grounds are still lovely, the swim-up bar and pool are nice.

CURATES EGG IN FAWLTY TOWERS
The setting and Grounds are tropical and wonderful. Large infinity swimming pool with waterfall. Pool bar only opens if busy but we did demand and get it opened! My room was OK but basic 2 star. No dryer, iron, chairs etc etc but had two double beds. Condition clean but plain. Direct access to internal gardens BUT no key to that door.
One of our guests had similar smaller plain room.
My other guests had two room swaps due to rain on bed and no door lock etc.
Issues at 9pm revealed the hotel staff all gone home except for security in the gate house. But we agreed another room swap to another useless room so our guests slept the night in our 2nd bed (THEIR HONEYMOON!!!)
Some issues with ants, caterpillars and frogs in rooms.
Tap water was dark brown one day.
Reception was 50-50 quality. WiFi within 5m of reception!Dining room a joke as they tried to fob us off with basic food and not the full menu so they could go home by 9pm and not stay to the claimed 10pm dining service.
Food variable and not consistent. Usually cold on cold plates and veg extremely firm. Bar sparsely stocked.2nd day had local police force booked as convention which swamped everything and many stayed late evening. Their leftovers were presented as ‘the buffet tonight’
We paid a lot of money to stay in the Luxury Suite. The room smelt of mold even after they cleaned it on our request. Also. ...as soon as I turned on the jacuzzi I noticed a public hair floating in the water... we had not even stepped into it so that was not our hair.
The hotel was clean. View was amazing. Staff was friendly. There should be afternoon snacks between lunch and dinner. All inclusive means all inclusive, shouldnt have to pay for anything. Overall the stay was good.
