Originally the Zetland, a luxurious hotel opened in 1863, this Victorian building remains the most prominent feature of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, taking its name from the Earl of Zetland, who sold the land on which to develop the town.

Nearby, you will find a local surf school where you can have lessons and hire equipment so you can join in the fun.
A popular inn along the beach is still famous for its link to pirates and smugglers, and you can get a feel for this as you walk the beach and admire the cliffs that surround the bay. Along the Heritage Coastline there are beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and wonderful scenic walks. Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay are all just a short drive away, and for keen walkers, you can follow the Cleveland Way along the cliff tops.
