Lovely stay, very clean room with good shower and comfortable bed. Excellent cooked breakfast & coffee. Wonderful & helpful owners. Very pretty location
Lovely place to stay. Quite quirky. Our room opened up onto decking with our own seating and table, grassed area and stream across yhe bottom. Lovely dining area, both indoor and outdoor under awnings.
Food was lovely and happy to do any variations from the menu. Couldn't fault any of it. Would definitely stay there again
The Hotel is overrated and the record should be put right!
The owners are arrogant shameful couple.
Our room was small and the décor inside and around the Hotel was rough, in need of a total refurb.
Having booked a time to eat we found another group of 8 arrived after us only to be served before us ,the staff all young were not interested or attentive to the guests ,no manager to hand very, poor service resulted.
As for the menu 3 of the eight main meals were not available this is at 8.15 pm !
The young girl waitress tried to do her best by offering extra fries as a consolation !
We asked to speak to a manager /owner to be told they live away from the property down the road and should there be a problem they can be called on their mobiles 24/7.
At around 2.30 am on using the bathroom a mass of wasps appeared and started to fill the bedroom one of them landing in my wife's bed who is disabled, she was frantic ,I tried to hit them with the bath towel but we had to leave rapidly.
I tried one of the mobile numbers but both our phones had no signal!!
So we headed home 3 hour drive!!On the hour we called the owners but only got an answer phone.
When they did call back at 7 am the male owner was totally rude and not understanding said he would have to look into matters and will call back.
Mrs Bird called back at 9 am giving what was a unconvincing apology and agreed that yes a wasps nest was found in the bathroom, she agreed to a refund - least they could do .
What a find. A jewel of a place beautifully situated on the edge of a stream and next to glorious countryside. The room was exceptionally comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and well cooked. Set us up nicely for the day. Useful little books supplied in the room with lots of local walks.
Just one negative. Do we really need plastic bottles of drinking water when it's just fine to fill your glass from the tap?
Can highly recommend Bird and Carter. We will definitely return.
We were staying here while participating in a course which started at next morning at 8.30 5 miles away. On arrival asked to have breakfast at 7.30 to be told was not possible breakfast only starts at 8.30. This is not stated on Expedia. In 40 years of travelling for business have never encountered such inflexibility. No options were offered neither was a refund of breakfast costs. Room was nice and clean, space allocated to bathroom means you have to shuffle sideways up sides of bed but we had guessed this from photos. A beautiful location, lovely for a holiday stay but not for business.
One of the nicest places to stay, I was travelling for a solo business trip but I shall be returning with my partner for a break away! The owners were so friendly, and served an awesome breakfast to! The room was stylish, very clean and the bed was so comfy! Being on my own for this trip I wanted to feel safe and this place certainly made me feel safe, surrounded by a beautiful location with the sounds of running water and birds singing.
The loft was absolutely beautiful, as was the setting. The bed was very comfy. Fresh milk, tea and coffee and flapjacks were left in the room. Breakfast was delicious!
The owner was there to meet me having phoned to check arrival time. He booked a table for me at the local pub. Honestly, he couldn’t have been more helpful. Would highly recommend!
Great stay. Best sleep I’ve had for a long time.
Bed and room was really comfy and the decor was great.
Fantastic breakfast before I left all included in the price.
We had a fantastic break at Fonthill Bishop. I couldn’t fault the location, cleanliness, room (that was particularly brilliant), staff (all very friendly) or food. One tiny thing was annoying and that was the temperature in our room - it was pretty chilly.
Really enjoyed our stay in this little gem. Room was small but clean and really good breakfast included! Tea and coffee in the room, but could do with a little mini fridge maybe for milk / alcohol. Highly recommend
Such a beautiful property! Joff greeted us when we arrived and gave us pointers on a great local pub for dinner! The room had all it needed and we slept cozy. Morning was beautiful and the complimentary breakfast at the restaurant was delicious!! We would absolutely stay again.
