Idyllische Herberge

Incomparably quiet, just right for holidaymakers who want to spend quiet days away from all the hustle and bustle in the style of simple, rural life. During the last two weeks of August 2021, we had blue skies and sunshine day after day. Ideal conditions to enjoy the sun, to go for short walks, to explore the rural surroundings by bike, for occasional visits to the proverbial French markets as well as inviting sleepy little towns. In the next bigger village, Lamastre, you will find everything you would need during your holiday. Being able to transport your own bicycles with your own car is a plus, for example if you want to ride the highly recommended La Dolce Via or cycle along the Rhône. At the beginning of your holiday, a visit to the tourist information office in Lamastre is highly recommended to obtain a wealth of up-to-date information on activities near and far, recommended excursion destinations and cultural events. The map Le Cheylard / Lamastre, 2936 SB, série bleue of the IGN, also available in Germany, was very useful for our needs. Our landlord was very friendly, patient with our not-so-great knowledge of French, well informed, always ready to help and always available for a chat if you like. Supportive communication on arrival and during the stay by email or mobile phone worked as one could wish. Thank you very much, Mr Ghenia for a great stay! Perhaps good to know is that mobile reception at the accommodation is not sufficient for internet-based research and work! What we liked: the secluded location, dozing on the sun terrace, cooking on gas with the kitchen window open, the grazing cows with their little bells from the neighbouring farm on the next hill, the exceptionally quiet nights, visits to the markets and what culinary delights you can discover there, bathing in the picturesque swimming pond of the Doux at Désaignes, the unimaginable variety of cheeses, the delicious baked goods of the boulangeries artisanales, the villages de caractère d'Ardèche, excursions to the Rhône, the fact that we spontaneously extended our stay thanks to the kindness of M. Ghenia, and especially the friendly and open-minded people we met everywhere! It was stressful: somehow I was always slower with my car than the French with theirs and that the French, at least here, speak French as fast as they drive :-)
