It was a great experience to be in Maison Gris in St Andre Allas. Everything was available. In some cold days, the heating was quick and comfortable. The views are excellent. Sarlat is just a few miles away.
My group of 4 really enjoyed staying in this Petit Chateau in early July. It was perfect as we visited the surrounding areas during the day and were able to cool off in the pool every evening. Charles and Anne were lovely hosts, and answered all our questions promptly. I wished we could had another week!
Beautiful location and perfect for 3 couples who like to travel together. There is a good boulangerie within a short walk and a fish and chips truck that was excellent that is set up once a week near there. The house has great outdoor spaces, but the weather did not cooperate for us to use the pool(which appears to be very nice). The house is in a lovely rural area but is an easy drive to Sarlat and other places of interest. The owner was great to deal with and we had no problems. We would strongly recommend staying here!
We had an absolutely delightful stay at this petite chateau in the heart of the Dordogne region! The property is exactly as described-charming, comfortable, and rich with history, but also equipped with all the modern amenities that made our stay incredibly relaxing. The views from the house are simply stunning, and we loved spending time in the various outdoor seating areas, soaking in the serene surroundings.
The location couldn't have been more perfect. Nestled in a quaint village, it was peaceful yet so convenient. The local boulangerie was just a short away, and we started every morning with fresh pastries. The chateau was the perfect base for exploring the amazing Dordogne region and its' beautiful natural landscape, visiting picturesque villages, numerous chateaus, gorgeous gardens and eating delectable regional delicacies.
We enjoyed every moment of our stay and would love to return again in the near future. Highly recommend!
Can’t ask for a better home base to explore Dordogne!
Charles and Ann’s home was a true treat to rent. It was the perfect base to explore the region. And after a busy day of visiting this incredible area, we were always thrilled to come back to the house to enjoy wine on the tower terrace. The owners were very responsive and the home is simply lovely. We will definitely be back!
We spent a lovely week in this beautiful historic property.
From the terrace amazing views surrounded by nature .The magical sound of the scop owl and saw deer grazing in the field.
Pool just the right temperature despite the unseasonably cool weather.
Boulangerie was walking distance from the property lovely bread and patisserie daily.
Downstairs bathroom really is room with a view got to be seen to be believed!
Plenty to do in surrounding area whatever the weather, picturesque villages spoilt for choice.
If interested in archaeology very informative tour at Cap Blanc rock shelter.
I would recommend this petite chateau for a very memorable stay.
The house is well equipped and spacious with lots of room to spread out and come together. We used the location to explore the region and had easy access to Sarlat, Beynac, Castelnaud, Domme etc. Highlight was a kayak trip on the Dordogne river past castles and beautiful villages. Also a day in Montignac to see Lascaux. We enjoyed the well marked hiking trials that left right from the house. There are too many beautiful places in the area to name and you could go to a market everyday if you want. After a day sightseeing we would sit out on the tower to enjoy apero and the sunset, then cook a meal. Bedrooms were spacious and everyone had an en suite bath. The front door initially gave us problems but we figured it out with some fidgeting. Weather didn’t permit us to take advantage of the pool. Next time!
The property is well-located in a small village near Sarlat, just a short drive to many attractions and a 10 min walk to a bakery, which I went to every morning to get croissants for breakfast.
The property has a lot of character and great outdoor spaces. The best part was the pool which we really enjoyed during the heat wave we had. The owners were very responsive to any questions.
Incredible home and incredible property in a lovely area. We walked for fresh bread and croissants every morning, explored the region and then refreshed in the pool and listened to the frogs in the pond every evening. The home has such incredible history and we spent the entire week exploring the Dordogne and Vezere river valleys, gardens and castles and falling in love with the medieval town of Sarlat. We hope to come back again soon.
Stunning property with lovely quirks. The view from the top of the tower is breath-taking.
Charles and Anne where fantastic and very accommodating. If you are a fan of the area, this is the base for you. House comes with everything you need. Can't thank them enough for the support and messaging in tough times.

A magical place to stay
We spent a wonderful two weeks with family and our oldest friends in this beautiful house. The tower and its circular staircase was a big draw for our teenage son; and aperitifs at the top every evening a highlight for the adults as we watched hot air balloons gently drifting across the valley. The house was very comfortable and each bedroom having its own bathroom was a bonus. The location was ideal for us, near Sarlat with many places to see - Beynac was our personal favourite - and things to do within easy reach. The owners were very helpful before we arrived and quick to answer any queries too. We couldn't have wished for more and were sad that we had to leave.
This house is quite unusual, with its spiral staircase up the tower to an amazing view over the Dordogne valley. It's comfortable, well equipped and family-friendly. We particularly liked the fact that upstairs is carpeted, while the thick walls and tiled floors downstairs meant it was always cool inside. It isn't isolated, with a small school and public tennis courts opposite, but it is secluded and at night the only sound was croaking frogs. Apart from swimming in the lovely pool, there's lots to do in the area for all ages (ours ranged from 4 to 70+) - we would love to go back.

I just loved it!
Gorgeous house, very well appointed, great bedrooms and bathrooms. There is a comfy, open, cozy ground floor area containing dining, kitchen and living areas with 2 big fireplaces at each end. The size of the house was perfect for 8. The surroundings of the property are delightful in their diversity of flowers, bushes, trees, all dispersed among the different terraces. This lovely home, wonderfully located 6 km from the little medieval town of Sarlat in Perigord, has a spirit, and it is a welcoming and joyful one. I really hope that we will have the opportunity to return for another stay in this little paradise.
This is a wonderful property in a wonderful location. We really enjoyed our stay here. The only problem we had was that I was not able to access the key from the device they had set up when we checked in. When the property managers came to check us out, they had no problem with it so it was my unfortunate inability to figure it out. Luckily there was a back door open and we were able to get in. The only other thing to note is that sometimes the birds made a great deal of noise at night. Otherwise, we really enjoyed staying here and exploring Sarlat and the surrounding area. All very beautiful with many castles and beautiful scenery to enjoy.
We were very excited to stay here and our family had already nicknamed it the petit chateau! The house did not disappoint but rather exceeded our expectations. The communication with the owner was very easy and cordial. Having the rooftop to enjoy the view and watch the balloons in the evenings was very special and the kids really enjoyed it. The pool was a lovely temperature and in easy proximity to the house. There is no air conditioning in the house, which is to be expected for a building of this era but what is a nice surprise is you can leave the bedroom windows open most evenings without insects flying in and the interior cools off nicely. We met the property managers upon departure who were also great to deal with. My only suggestion would be a plush topper for the mattress and a larger pedestal fan in the Master bedroom but these are relatively minor observations. All in all and really enjoyable and successful stay… thank you Charles and Anne!

Idyllic Dordogne Escape. July 2016
The description and facilities of Maison Grise far exceeded our expectations and provided us with the privacy and holiday sanctuary that we were looking for, as well as a wonderful base to explore the Dordogne area. Charles and Anne were exceptional regards communicating and their customer service. My husband and son and occasionally myself thoroughly enjoyed playing tennis every morning. Our favourite part of the day was drinking sun downers on the tower balcony, whilst enjoying watching the hot air balloons sail up into the sky. The property is ideally located just outside the wonderful medieval town of Sarlat, with the local supermarket Casino easily accessible. I thoroughly enjoyed walking to the Boulangerie every morning to buy fresh baguettes and the best croissants we have ever eaten. Recommend doing the 22km canoe trip on the Dordogne river from La Grojelac to Beynac, we had a fabulous day out seeing all the Chateaus and wildlife as we floated down the river. I will definitely be recommending this property to friends and family.
The stone house, created from a blacksmithy, was quite a change for us Americans. The older parts of the structure accommodated to modern life in fascinating ways.
The setting is delightful, with gardens and a well-tended swimming pool on the grounds and a splendid view. We quickly began a custom of playing cards after dinner at the top of the turret, where we took in the late sunsets over the Perigord forest.
Wildflowers bloomed along the roads, and gardening was in full swing. It was the time of hydrangeas and artichokes.
Our initial happy visit at the nearby boulangerie finished with dashed expectations as we found that they would be closed the next two weeks for vacation. Charles, doubtless you had not idea, but we felt you had broken a promise!
We found a few more places to pick up bread and pastries as we traveled in and out of Sarlat and over to Les Eyzies.
Being near the caves was good, as they were one reason for being in the Dordogne. And canoeing was delightful and handy. There are plenty of markets, so that we could find one every day if we liked. The narrow D roads were picturesque everywhere we went, with the added feature of castles on many hills. We visited a few, including Puymartin and Les Milandes.
All in all we returned happily to our little castle each evening, where many nights we fixed dinner in the well-equipped kitchen, and had our choice of beautiful dining settings.

Just wonderful
Myself, my husband our 13 yr old daughter and another family of 4 spent a week here towards the end of August. As others have commented, the house exceeded our expectations and the grounds are delightful - there are so many different outside spaces to enjoy. Our family had a very special meal at Le Petite Tonnelle in Beynac one night, we had tow very nice meals at Le Bacchus (in Le Jardin at the back) in Sarlat and also at Le Glacier restaurant which is right next to Le Bacchus. One thing that isn't in the very comprehensive information package that Charles sends you is the 'chef for a night' service that is available from Teresa. Basically you can book her to cook a 3+ course meal so you don't have to drive anywhere. It's shame we hadn't known about this prior to arriving because she needs a few days' notice and, unfortunately for us, was fully booked that week. The night market at Saint-Cyprien was great fun, as was canoeing on the Dordogne and Padirac Cave. We had an amazing holiday and will definitely be back. Oh, and if you've left your dogs at home and are missing them, don't worry; the neighbour's dogs come and visit you for a cuddle :o) Thank you Charles and Anne.
marred by the absence of A/C.
Méteo-France marked September the hottest since measurements began in 1900. I booked the house last September with family and friends for the entire month and the A/C was listed among its facilities/equipment. It is still to this day. Due to the high temperatures, the three upstairs bedrooms turned into veritable furnaces, and the downstairs area, which tended to be somewhat cooler, did not provide much relief either. To spare future renters the disappointment, I recommend to those who plan to visit the ‘petit château’ during the summer months, to first verify with the owner to ascertain that, in the meantime, an A/C system has been installed or book the house during the cooler months because a holiday in Maison Grise is truly a wonderful and unique experience with its shabby chic furniture and décor, magnificent view and lovely gardens and pool, and its exceptional location for touring a region that boasts of splendid castles and gardens, and fine cuisine.
Kudos to the house managers, who are friendly and efficient.
On a final note, during the first 2 weeks of September, the huge fig tree opposite the entrance to the house and the front verandah was bursting with ripe fruit and, therefore, attracted armies of wasps. They became a nuisance and could present danger to those allergic to stings.
We spend three wonderful weeks in this little Chateau
When we arrived, everything was well prepared for us.
After the first week, my son and a friend of his had to leave, and our friends from Germany arrived. It was very kind of the staff, that they changed linnen etc on Saturday, we thank You very much.
We enjoyed of course the pool und the beautiful garden. But we also enjoyed the fully eqipped kitchen, every evening we had beautiful meals.
And last but not least: We were happy about the hiking paths in and aroud St. André, we made serveral tours from here to highlights of the region.
