About this property
5m Bell Tents-Glamping in picturesque 6 acre feld tucked away in the countryside
This glamping site in Great Sampford offers the perfect balance of outdoor adventure and home comforts. It features four fully furnished 5-meter bell tents, each designed for a relaxing and hassle-free stay.
Just a 23-minute drive from Stansted Airport and around an hour from London—frequent trains from the city run to Audley End, which is 10 miles (about a 20-minute drive) away. Please note that due to the proximity to Stansted, planes do pass overhead.
Inside each tent, guests are provided with a double mattress and up to two single blow-up mattresses depending on the booking size (an optional third blow-up mattress and a travel cot without bedding can be provided upon request). All tents come with pillows, duvets, fresh linen, and one towel per person. You’ll also find cosy furnishings and plenty of home comforts.
Each tent has its own outdoor table and seating area, a fire pit/BBQ, and individual cooking facilities. We’ve tried to think of everything so you don’t have to: a cool box with two ice packs, gas cooker, water carrier with tap, cutlery, picnic-style crockery, chopping boards, knives, bottle opener, pots and pans, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar—and even some marshmallows for toasting under the stars. The fire pit doubles as a BBQ, but please bring your own coals and utensils as we’re unable to provide these.
For added convenience, there’s a shared cabin on-site with a hot shower and flushing toilet. Here you'll also find a phone charging point, a small shared fridge/freezer (note: freezer space is limited), and a few board games that we invite you to enjoy.
A short stroll across the field takes you to a friendly local pub serving delicious food.
The area is ideal for cycling and walking, with quiet country roads and beautiful countryside to explore. We’ve lived here for 40 years and are passionate about sharing this stunning part of Essex. The surrounding area is a paradise for walkers and cyclists, with scenic trails, quiet lanes, and charming villages.
As the sun sets, the field transforms into a stargazer’s paradise, with clear skies and minimal light pollution. Guests can gather around their fire pit, toast marshmallows, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
Readers Field, Great Sampford, is a 6.2-acre (2.5-hectare) field that we’ve owned for 21 years. It was set aside over 40 years ago and has recently been used as a hay meadow.
It’s bordered on one side by our house and grounds, where we’ve lived since 1985, and by other fields to the front and back. Wildlife is abundant here—rabbits, hares, badgers, foxes, muntjacs, and roe deer regularly pass through. Overhead, you might spot buzzards, red kites, rooks, and wood pigeons. Depending on the season, the field’s perimeter blooms with blackberries, crab apples, rose hips, sloes, and elderflowers and berries.
Readers Field sits atop a ridge, making it one of the higher points in Essex, with far-reaching views to the south.
