This home is striking and is one of a kind, from its solar facing windows to hand poured concrete countertops, slate floors, adobe walls, log and hand hewn beams, handcrafted furniture with our own blacksmith accents. Feature walls include island stone, adobe plaster, lime plaster walls coloured handmade glass bottle feature walls. The home incorporates a southern with a wall of windows. The kitchen cupboards have round hobbit style doors, hidden storage units and concrete countertops. The bedroom features our own built bed, with a pullout office area, side board lighting, and many examples of storage spaces.
Because of the homes unique design the sun warms the home in the winter, but the computer designed extended eaves and earth tied interior cool the home in the summer.
We built and designed earthships in New Mexico to learn many of the techniques, but added our own styling and features into the home. The kitchen breakfast bar is built from log burls we harvested, then carved and accented with our own insite forged hardware.
The bathroom has a large round concrete and tile shower, the vanity features a sink base from a tree stump, above the door for extra light is a glass bottle bick wall. The windows of the cottage face south for maximum solar gain, so there are large windows, the overhang shelters the summer heat, but allows the winter sun to shine in.
