Cruthirds: Casual Comfort and Mountain Charm

Welcome to Cruthirds Cabin, a cozy retreat named in honor of family ancestors, offering the perfect mix of mountain charm and casual comfort. This inviting cabin is designed for a laid-back escape with a spacious outdoor area, a covered hot tub, and all the warmth of a traditional Ruidoso cabin. Step inside to a welcoming living space featuring an open kitchen, dining area, and a wood-burning fireplace (firewood is NOT provided), with large windows framing the natural beauty outside.

Nestled in a quiet, secluded neighborhood, Cruthirds is a stone's throw from downtown shopping, dining, and entertainment, yet remains a peaceful hideaway for recharging and savoring the crisp mountain air. With visits from local wildlife like deer, elk, and even the occasional wild turkey, every stay promises a touch of nature. The fully equipped kitchen invites you to prepare your favorite meals, or simply bring home a taste of Ruidoso from nearby restaurants.

Wake up refreshed in cozy beds, and start your mornings with a warm drink by the fireplace on crisp, cool days. For summer stays, central air conditioning ensures extra comfort, though the cool mountain breezes and open windows are often all you'll need. With dog-friendly accommodations, Cruthirds is a wonderful spot to share mountain moments with loved ones—two- and four-legged alike!

Ruidoso, Alto, and surrounding areas: Submerse yourself within the towering pines of Lincoln County and watch local wildlife such as elk, deer, wild horses, turkey, birds, and more in their natural habitats. Plan a day basking in the stillness of our national forest while hiking, biking, or fishing, golfing at one of our multiple golf courses or spend a fun night out on the town at one of the area's local attractions! Be sure to swim or fish at the beautiful Grindstone or Alto Lake, delight your senses at Winter Park with roller coaster and tubing, and explore the ski slopes and hiking trails throughout Ski Apache. Win big at one of our three local casinos and enjoy the excitement of live quarter horse racing at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. Be happy you took a respite from the concrete jungle. Nice Spot!
Our group included mom, dad, and a toddler! The cabin was located VERY close to the lake and good hiking. Short drive down to midtown. We only saw 1 deer around the cabin because the ground was so sloped. It had a big fireplace. The hot tub was okay. It had both a drip coffee pot and a kuerig. The walls creaked a lot at night, and the stairs were loud. You can hear people upstairs easily from downstairs. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and had only petty complaints! Also the owners responded within minutes every time I messaged them. My husband hated the beds, but I didn’t have a problem with them.

Fantastic stay will stay again
This is a wonderful property. Nice and quaint, isolated but convenient. 5 minutes from the downtown strip, but when there feels like you’re 30 minutes out. Also perfect location for fishing trips. 7 minute walk to grindstone.. just could bot say enough about this place. Wildlife everywhere, safe and sound. Left my fishing rods on the deck and were left there all trip. This place is amazing.

Almost Perfect
We had a great time in Ruidoso and staying in this cabin. The location was close to midtown shopping and resturants, but far enough that you felt like you were in the woods. It is located in a neighborhood, but it was one of the few cabins that wasn't right next to another cabin so it felt like you didn't have neighbors. We loved sitting in the (covered)hot tub when it was snowing. The hot tub only had two or three working jets though. The check in and check out was super easy. Overall, it was the perfect cabin. The only thing I would change is to add a tea kettle (electric or stove top) for the tea drinkers. And please invest in some new cookware. The pots and pans were scratched up teflon (yuck). They did provide a wide array of cast iron skillets which we did use, but please consider getting ride of the teflon.

Almost perfect!
The location and parking and just about everything this place has was perfect in my opinion. Only having one shower was a bit of a challenge which I didn’t notice when looking at the listing. The oven also didn’t work which caused me to leave the frozen pizzas behind. But everything else including the hot tub, deck, privacy and location were perfect for us. Would highly recommend for smaller groups.

Loved the windows
We very much enjoyed the stay we saw deer and a pack of wild horses in the yard. We went to the very nearby lake for a beautiful hike. The casino and downtown were both not far from the cabin. We enjoyed the hot tub. We also really loved the wall of windows lots of sunlight and we enjoyed watching the nature around us. The cabin was clean minus a few spider webs in hard to reach areas. We were able to cook and we pretty much had all the cook wear we needed and the grill was easy to use. The house rules and leaving day instructions were pretty clear and nothing too extra as far as cleaning.

Cabin is ok
This cabin is ok. The neighborhood is ok. The location for going in to town was good. The cabin could be cleaner and some things could be supplied/upgraded. There weren’t any cushions for the outdoor metal chairs so they were pretty uncomfortable. Sheets could be upgraded and a bath mat supplied. Bring your own ice cube trays, coffee, trash bags and zip lock bags, plastic wrap, etc. There were issues addressed with management that they have said will be fixed - tub backs up, hot tub only has 3 working jets, dirty kitchen ware, tv instructions outdated and system is very complicated and the A/C fluctuates. You can set a temperature and come back 2 hrs later and it has reset itself 2 degrees higher. All in all, none of this ruined our stay but I don’t think we go the value for the money

Best Small Cabin
We have traveled to Ruidoso over 12 times and twice with our two children. This cabin in BY FAR the nicest small cabin we have stayed in. Perfect for a fam of 4-5. Our kids slept upstairs and we slept in master downstairs. The cabin was very clean! The location was top notch - very secluded compared to Upper Cabin. Every cooking amenity you could need, plenty of towels, blankets, trash bags, paper towels/toilet paper, etc… There is a baby gate, FYI. Wish we would have seen it sooner.

Disappointed
The cabin was not as shown in pictures, advertised. It needs alot of work. Back door out of kitchen was fought constantly to close, a/c temps kept fluctuating, told was secluded yet close neighbors across street on north, east side. While they were quiet, it was still not what was presented. Had no spare trashbags yet responsible for not leaving any. No ice in freezer. TV was a total nightmare, and no, we're not savy tech but still. Steps from parking area to porch are a hazard, as well as those from porch to back ground area's, steep rickety. Blinds are dirty, those in middle of living area have some kind of goo like honey on both sides. We were responsible for almost 95% of cleaning it before left although housekeeping was supposedly there, available. We kept our end of bargain but mark my words, we will not use any hummingbird cabins again until they ensure that they VET their cabins prior to posting.

Rustic Mountain Getaway
Our family enjoyed our stay. This is an older cabin in an older neighborhood, but we got that feeling from other reviews. Thought the listing was accurate, and didn’t share many of the complaints others had. The door keypad was annoying and didn’t use the hot tub, but enjoyed the space and the the quiet.

Honeymoon Getaway
My wife and I stayed 4 nights in the cabin for our honeymoon. There was a rusty, old, 70 model suburban parked at the property that was for sale. The confirmation page did not have the code for access to the cabin. We had to call the property manager to get the code. She was very rude and short with her responses, not what we expected as part of the hospitality industry. The keypad was difficult to operate. The sun glared on the pad and it had to be touched to activate, then you could use your code. It seemed to be low on battery, as we struggled all week to get it to turn on for us to use the code. The tub/shower was backed up all week. We were able to use drain-o on the last day to get it to drain. It was extremely hot in the cabin, near 90 degrees inside, even with blinds and doors closed at all times. Box fans were found in the closet and had to be used in the family area downstairs. The rooms upstairs were very hot and not used. The tv had instructions for use, but they were dated 2017 and did not work for the remotes and devices available. We did finally get Netflix to work. The neighborhood was quiet and had deer in the yard each day. Located around the corner from Lake Grindstone and great hiking! A short drive to Midtown, shopping, and eateries. Cabin has kitchen accessories and a grill to cook at “home”. We enjoyed the cool mornings on the patio. The cabin has a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The hot tub was nice on a cool night.
