Historic country houses in Dordogne
The property offers two lovely, restored country houses, built before the time of Napoleon out of local limestone, outside of Rouffignac. The area is rolling terrain with agricultural land punctuated by forests. Sarlat is an easy drive away through spectacular, cliff-lined valleys. Lascaux also nearby. We stayed in both houses, one larger with a pretty terrace and swimming pool; one smaller also with terrace and pool. Both have modern kitchens and bathroom facilities. The most important thing to mention is the abundant courtesy and responsiveness of the hosts, who promptly addressed our every need. A note for anyone arriving on the A89 expressway from Clermont-Ferrand: probably best to ignore your GPS and drive almost to Périgueux, exiting at Boulazac and taking the D710 highway south. Your GPS may recommend leaving the A89 earlier and threading your way to Rouffignac on the D6089 via Thenon. We found that trickier and more time consuming.
