Historic country houses in Dordogne
The property offers two lovely, restored country houses, built before the time of Napoleon out of local limestone, outside of Rouffignac. The area is rolling terrain with agricultural land punctuated by forests. Sarlat is an easy drive away through spectacular, cliff-lined valleys. Lascaux also nearby. We stayed in both houses, one larger with a pretty terrace and swimming pool; one smaller also with terrace and pool. Both have modern kitchens and bathroom facilities. The most important thing to mention is the abundant courtesy and responsiveness of the hosts, who promptly addressed our every need. A note for anyone arriving on the A89 expressway from Clermont-Ferrand: probably best to ignore your GPS and drive almost to Périgueux, exiting at Boulazac and taking the D710 highway south. Your GPS may recommend leaving the A89 earlier and threading your way to Rouffignac on the D6089 via Thenon. We found that trickier and more time consuming.

A relaxing 10 days in a beautiful house
We spent 10 days in August enjoying this beautiful house, a family of four with two children age 8 and 11. Laurence the owner was very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Very prompt to help us with any questions we had. We even got home grown fresh figs delivered. The house is in a lovely setting, a hamlet with a few other houses, complete privacy. Perfect to explore the region, Rouffignac is just about 8 minutes drive with a fresh bakery and a very good Italian restaurant. I would recommend swimming in the river at Saint Leon, we hired a paddle board while we were there and also booked a 13 km kayak trip for the following day. The house is very old and rustic especially upstairs but kitchens and bathrooms are modern. Beds very comfy. The stairs upstairs do have a narrow tread in places so you do have to take care but my two children were fine using them. The air conditioning was welcomed as it was very hot while we were there. The internet is good and we managed to stream films no problem. The kitchen is well equipped. Great utility which is handy for a family of four. The pool is lovely, plenty of sun beds and a big umbrella for shade. My kids loved it. Thank you Laurence for a lovely stay.

As peaceful a setting as can be wanted and not far from everything
We spent a quiet week enjoying the serenity of the house and garden (and pool!) as well as touring the valley of Vézère and its amazing prehistory, history and culinary experience. The host is welcoming and available, but out of the way unless you have need of assistance. Her recommendations for area visits and tips are worth noting. Bonus for anyone who is musical is the piano in the house which our musical kids spent hours each night enjoying (and the pleasant fluye/organ playing of the hosts in the nearby house was great to listen to as well!)... recommended stay

Beautiful, period property. Loads of charm but air conditioning and great kitchen and pool.
Owners were lovely. So much to see in the area. A great location but rural and quiet at the same time. We would definitely recommend to friends.

An absolutely gorgeous house and pool - highly recommend it!
We have just returned from a wonderful two weeks at this property, we have stayed in many french sites over the years and this was one of our favourites. It is a charming old barn but whilst it retains all it's character, it has very modern luxurious fixtures and fittings and was a joy to spend time in. The garden and pool area were lovely, so peaceful and a great place to relax. Although the owners are on site, they are incredibly discreet so you have the best of both worlds in terms of being able to contact them when you want but not being disturbed during your stay. The house is about a 7 min drive to Rouffignac which has a great bakery, a few cafes and a supermarket. Further afield, the Vezere river is roughly 25 mins drive away and has some lovely villages and great places to swim (esp St Leon sur Vezere which is definitely worth a visit). Would definitely recommend this house!

Bertrand
