Our piece of heaven---a 3-bedroom cottage on the Albemarle Sound near the mouth of the Roanoke River---can be your vacation spot and fishing mecca. Enjoy your time at The Crow's Nest by relaxing in the hammock on the corner porch, rocking on the front porch watching the water activities, or being part of the water activities.
The 50-foot pier with a large deck at the end is a great place to enjoy the day but, especially, the sunset. The low deck and ladder provide easy access to a sandy-bottom swim area about 4- to 5-feet deep (NO DIVING). Lots of space for making memories with family and friends.
A paddle board and two kayaks are available for your enjoyment while you are at the Crow's Nest.
If bringing your boat, nearby Mackey's Marina offers slips and a boat ramp. The closest wildlife ramps are Roanoke River at Highway 45, Connaby Creek, and Plymouth.
This part of the Albemarle Sound offers excellent fishing ground for white perch, rock, bass, crabs, and other species. You can fish directly from the bulkhead and pier or take your boat to Swan's Bay, the Roanoke River, Mackey's Creek, or Batchelor's Bay. For a longer expedition, you could cross the Sound to Edenton (roughly 6 miles) and the Chowan River or head 10 miles east to the Highway 32 car bridge.
The Outer Banks is approximately an hour’s drive away and offers many attractions, such as the NC Aquarium, Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey's Ridge, Elizabethan Gardens, Jeannette's Pier, and the Atlantic Ocean.
If you're interested in nature and wildlife, you should check out Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Mattamuskeet, or the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Bear and wildlife tours are offered seasonally.
If history and culture are your thing, check out Somersett Plantation at Phelps Lake on the Pettigrew State Park; go in to Plymouth and explore the waterfront, the Roanoke River Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, the Bear Museaum, and Port-o-Plymouth History/Civil War Museum; or venture to Edenton to tour the Historic District including the Cupola House, the Iredell House, and the 1767 Chowan County Courthouse.
The Crow's Nest offers 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, plus an outside shower, all on one floor. It sleeps up to 9 people and has one central living room with seating and a large-screen TV. A screened-in porch wraps around 3 sides of the cottage and has rocking chairs as well as corner benches to catch the best breeze.
