The house is very clean and the hosts responded quickly to emails. We did have maintenance issues during our time there. The master toilet was inoperable, the dishwasher was tripping off, and the AC quit and had to be replaced so we had 3 nights of it being rather warm.
The huge issue is the parking situation and the beach erosion that can make for a disaster because of the parking location. There has been so much beach erosion at Rodanthe that houses have literally fallen into the ocean. This house no longer has a driveway or an adequate location for parking. At high tide, the waves literally crash up and under the house.
You will be parking at the end of a street, and the only thing between you and a high tide is a man-made dune. While we were there, a storm front blew in one day and there were thunderstorms most of the night. When we woke up the next morning, the high tide was washing up and over the dune at the end of the street. The sand from the dune washed down and swamped our vehicle. The vehicle was trapped and would not move. In addition, the street was filling with water.
We had to have a towing service come and pull our vehicle out of the sand, and then dash to a car wash 30 miles away to remove the sand and saltwater. All told, the cost was about $400. Whatever you do, DO NOT trust that the man-made dune will protect your vehicle from the high tide. Unfortunately, there are very few viable options for alternative parking. Just be aware.
