The island has a history of several centuries. In the past it was inhabited by fishermen and whalers, and those with high incomes took advantage of the opportunity and built the large Rømø farms that still stand today. Today the island attracts vacationers from all over the world who want to experience the unique flora and fauna as well as the wide sandy beaches.
