Secluded Glenbeg Tower in stunning private estate.

Glenbeg Tower, Timeless Woodland Hideaway

Nested in the midst of the 300 acre privately-owned Glenalla woodland
estate, Glenbeg Tower is a quirky octagonal dower house, perhaps eighteenth century in origin (though no one is quite sure), surrounded by native woodland, and with views to Lough Swilly in the distance. Perfect for a country week or weekend escape for family or friends. Exclusive access to extensive walking in surrounding woodlands and heather moors to climb for panoramic views across the Swilly, all without crossing a road.  Glenbeg Tower has an octagonal double bedroom with a splendid outlook from the tower, and, on the middle floor, two twin-bedded rooms, a bathroom and an octagonal sitting room. The ground floor comprises an octagonal dining room, a spacious well-equipped kitchen and an additional sitting room, which has a TV and two new single beds in it. There is also a shower room on the ground floor. To reach the shower room from the downstairs sitting/bed room, one walks through the kitchen. Internet is good but not 100% reliable, and mobile phones work well. The sitting room opens onto a covered terrace overlooking the grounds.

There is a tennis court on the estate, shared with the family when they are resident in the main house (which is out of sight, 150 metres down the hill).

Ideally situated for a brief getaway or a much longer stay, available for short or longer term let – books, poems, and theses have been penned in the peaceful surrounds. Curl up for a read in front of the open fires (dining room and in the two sitting rooms), after exploring Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way with its beautiful local beaches, walking, horse riding, surfing, swimming, or trekking up Donegal’s mountains and tasting local artisan food and ale.

There are stunning walks in the private estate from the front door of the property. You can walk for 40 minutes and still be on the property. And the gardens are beautiful. The nearest shops are a 10 minute drive away (Lidl in Milford and general stores in Rathmelton and Rathmullan) and the nearest beaches, which are all beautifully sandy, are a 10 minute drive away. If you venture a bit further you can reach beaches within 25 minutes which are listed as some of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. There are good local restaurants (booking essential in the holiday season) and also pubs all within 10-15 minute drives (Rathmelton and Rathmullan). Letterkenny is a larger town and has lots of shops (Tesco etc.) and that is 25 minutes from the house by car.

Beautiful setting and a great location for day trips
Glenbeg is a semi-secluded wonderfully peaceful location. The house and surrounding grounds are a natural wonder onto itself worthy of exploration. The houses' location, centered the county Donegal, is ideal for day trips along the Wild Atlantic Way from the Fanad Head lighthouse, to Horn Head Lookout, and Portsalon. The many picturesque towns like Ramelton (visit the Blue Goat store), Rathmullan, Dunfanaghy are worthwhile to visit. Lastly the hike up Errigal was a challenge, but the view makes the trek worth the climb. We will visit again for sure.

Arrived with no problem finding the property as party of 5 adults and 2 dogs. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed plenty of walks exploring the beautiful grounds. The property was perfect and the kitchen had everything you would need and the bedrooms were spotless with plenty of towels for everyone. Fergus was a great contact and brought us the tennis racquets after my daughter contacted the host that day. We would highly recommend this property for a family etc with pets for a relaxed break from their busy lives and spend quality.time together in a quiet location.

Family break
We really enjoyed our stay here with the family and our dog Chance. The surrounding area and scenery was beautiful but unfortunately we only explored a little of the many acres around us. The view from the sun house was amazing a really lovely spot to sit with the family with the fire going enjoyin the peace and chatting and drinking looking up to the stars....if you want a relaxing holiday with plenty of walks, fishing and lovely scenery then this place is defo for you. Couldnt recommend enough.

Such a Special Place
Glenbeg for us was the perfect escape. This historic house is so charming, it’s just poetic. It has all the comforts of modern day living too. It’s a special and tranquil place, set in an ancient wood, a mycologists paradise. You can hike up to a heather moor for a spectacular view of the Donegal hills and Lough Swilly. The weather was incredibly kind to us and we were able to enjoy the local beaches and the phenomenal golf courses. The area has many amenities and excellent dining options. We loved getting lost on the scenic back roads of the County, always happy to make our way back to the serenity of Glenbeg at the end the day. Wonderful and receptive hosts and warm helpful welcome on arrival, so appreciated. We all have a yearning to get back there, such a special place.

Glenalla - a nature lovers paradise and so much more!
This is a beautiful holiday home for anyone who is interested in getting away from the cares of everyday life. You are immediately transported to a different era. The house is a quirky, historical gem set in the middle of a beautiful, extensive forested area where nature abounds. A charming walled garden adds to its appeal. We all, particularly the children loved the proximity of the house to the fantastic beaches that Donegal has to offer (20-40mins) . We were blessed with the most beautiful weather and spent every day at the beach. Our favourite was Ballymastocker, where we had such fun on our body boards. Surfing school also takes place here. Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful.. They were on holiday in the large house, which is within walking distance, as is another house on the property. Privacy is not an issue however and we were not intruded upon in any way. We wish Diana and Donal, Michele and Rodney and all the family the very best with their amazing home. We thank them and Fergus and Natalie for making us feel so welcome. Please note that the bedrooms and bathrooms are all upstairs and that the stairs to the top floor bedroom are a little tricky to negotiate but this did not bother us at all and add to the character of the house.
