Another wonderful stay at Nordurnes
This was our 4th time at Maja's properties and we loved everything about it. The weather didn't cooperate very well on this trip, but we stayed warm and cozy and the cabin is a great spot to come home to after day trips in the area!

Beautiful Location
While they were weak, we were able to see the Northern Lights from the cottage multiple nights. No light pollution to interfere. Great location for exploring the south. Quiet, but still easy access to services in Selfoss. Highly recommend!

Magical and cozy stay
We have enjoyed staying at this cottage very much. Kept ourselves very busy exploring Iceland to the fullest during the days, comming back in the evening we felt welcomed and had everything what we needed to rest and enjoy some off time. We had perfect weather but even if we didnt we would happily just stay at the cottage enjoying ourselves. And as a bonus last night of our stay we were given the best gift for farewell from the skies... northern lights.. magical. It looked exactly like on the main photo of the property. Thank You very much Maja. Will will treasure these unforgettable moments.

Favorite stay in Iceland!
The perfect place to get away from it all. Nordunes is such a wonderful cottage with everything you need and more. Comfortable, Clean, ambiance, views galore! Maja is very friendly and extremely helpful. We were lucky is see the northern lights and had clear skies all around to enjoy the view. I would love to come back again and stay even longer. Ever since we've come home from our travels we keep saying...I wish we were back at the cottage Nordunes!

Absolutely Amazing!
This is absolutely our favorite place we have ever stayed. Everything was fantastic. This was our second trip to Iceland and our first time visiting in the winter. As long as you're comfortable driving in the snow, this is the perfect place to stay in the winter. We were lucky enough to see phenomenal aurora borealis displays many times while we were there. Nordurnes is the perfect spot, not only because the cabin itself is so wonderful, but also because it is remote enough that you can enjoy the aurora displays perfectly. Maja was kind and welcoming, and her farm is beautiful. It is clear the entire property is well-maintained and loved. We cannot wait to get back to Iceland and to stay at Nordurnes again!

An Introvert's Getaway
Until our stay at the cabin, I'd forgotten what silence feels like. Coming from the daily bustle of passing cars and leaf blowers, the feeling of opening a window and hearing nothing is surreal. The feeling is further solidified by the ~15 minute drive down a gravel road, through small hills and farms and between two frozen lakes. That said, the cabin isn't isolated. Maja's house is just up the gravel road, and she is a caring and concerned host. She checked in with us on our first day and was always helpful with any questions we had, from local shopping and food recommendations, to how well our plans would align with the weather forecasts. The cabin is well-equipped with an arsenal of vacation information: an extensive list of day trips, a property map with walking paths, resources for weather updates. Checking the weather and road closures over breakfast became an unexpectedly fun ritual. Driving up to the crest of the hill and seeing the little cabin, porch-light lit, at the end of a long day. Watching out of the loft window, half-awake, as the sky turns green and teal. Walking over to meet the horses. Eating a home-cooked meal while watching the evening sun light up the mountains. These are the moments we hope to return to soon.

As Awesome AS it Looks
We really enjoyed our stay at Nordurnes, we arrived late evening to an immaculate, cosy and warm cottage. Directions we had been given were easy to follow even though it was dark. Maja had left the lights on, so locating the cottage wasn't a problem. Woke up the following morning to realise the beauty of our surroundings and to be greeted by the lovely Maja & Skinna. The weather wasn't great but Maja gave us some great advice as well as directions and the best routes to take for our travels. The welcome pack was really comprehensive and we found it very useful for our first visit to Iceland. The cottage is really well equipped, with everything we needed to make a good meal, there was even quite a lot of basic larder items left from previous guests. The cottage was in such a convenient location that we were able to drive up to the golden circle as well as Selandjafoss, Skogafoss and Vik. We would definitely recommend Nordurnes to our friends and family as it made our first time in Iceland perfect. Our only regret is that we weren't there for long enough, will definitely be returning!

Perfect!
Nordunes was perfect! For the Southern part of our Icelandic vacation, and for our day drive into the East, this was Exactly what we hoped to experience for where we would lodge - feeling as if we were the only people within a wide open space, but yet not isolated was fulfilled our hopes. Varied weather Enhanced our time, but on the clear days a 180 degree long-range view for Miles to snow-capped mountains, the *Close volcano, and glaciers rivaled any view of our drives from the Northwest and into the East. We listened to the bird calls of the Wimbrel and Snipe and were visited by Rock Ptarmigan. Sheep with *tiny lambs (this was a late Spring time visit) on the drive into Nordunes captured our hearts and the Icelandic Ponies grazing roadside added to the charm. On the large property, we enjoyed an off-track walk through the unique terrain that took us to a musical stream dotted with yellow water plants and it had a small, but lovely waterfall. This time spent exploring around Nordunes was a sweet surprise on our last day with abundant sunshine, crystal clear long-range views in every direction and ponies grazing nearby! We were graced with *wind or a slight breeze during our entire visit to Iceland which prevented flying insects from finding us so we relished the diverse beauty of Iceland whether out exploring or in this little cabin. Nordunes is picture postcard location. Maja was welcoming and we were happy to meet her *Beautiful sheepdog, too. Perfect - in every way.

A memorable stay
Nordurnes is the most unforgettable, beautiful and perfect place to stay and enjoy the South of Iceland. It is by far the most memorable stay we have had anywhere in the world. We intend to return. If you are after a relaxing, awe-inspiring, remote place to stay which still has easy access to towns and sights across the whole of the South of Iceland, then I would recommend it as your first choice. The cottage: We arrived to find an immaculately presented little cottage, which was open for us to enter without having to pick up keys beforehand. Soon after our arrival, Maja came down to greet us. She was approachable and very friendly and re-assured us that if we needed her at any point during our stay, we could pop over to her house, which is about 100 meters or so away. She then left us to it. Nordurnes was perfectly sized for the two of us. It is beautifully furnished and provided an ideal space to relax in the days and evenings. The bedroom, which is on an upper level overlooking the longe, is a very quaint and charming feature. a small window positioned at eye level behind the pillows provides a unique opportunity to gaze out into the night's sky, which is always majestic (perfect for seeing the Northern Lights if they decide to appear). Location: The location is stunning. The surrounding views of mountains, valleys and fields are the type that are so beautiful, I wouldn't be able to do them justice in this review. You'll have to see them first hand. Things to do: There are a wealth of things to do (and we went in the winter period when there are generally less things open). While we were there, we saw the Geezers, the stunning Gullfoss waterfalls and the fascinating town of Hveragerdi with its surrounding geothermal activity. These are just a few of many places we could have visited with ease. We just didn't have the time. Information provided on arrival: Maja is extremely well organised. She provides folders in the cottage with valuable information about Iceland and the various things to do. This included contact details for services that provide tours to the sights around the South. It even included the weather prediction for the length of our stay. Other facts: - The directions provided are very efficient. We had no problem finding Nordurnes despite its location 15 minutes off the main road. - Nordurnes is within an easily manageable distance from Keflavik airport (Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive).

Perfect out of the way home base
We stayed at Nordurnes for 8 nights while we explored southern Iceland. This location was perfect and peaceful to come back to each day. One bit of advice we would pass on is that if you are stopping at the grocery store before coming to the cabin, the small refrigerator does not have a freezer, so plan on eating any frozen items the first night. Overall thought, the solitude here was just magnificent and we were rewarded with an aurora on our last night! Maja was an excellent host and provided some tips on some local attractions. We are already trying to figure out a return visit here!

Süßes Haus in idyllischer Lage
Absolut empfehlenswert!

Beautiful countryside house, wonderful host
My wife, adult daughter and I loved this place. It's located amid horse and sheep pastures with vistas of distant mountains, well away from towns and, in fact, from other houses. The house, though small, is very comfortable and feels much larger than its size. The many windows let in a lot of Iceland's long summer daylight, and the east-facing ones frame the volcano Hekla on those rare days when it isn't cloaked in cloud. The kitchen is well equipped, there’s an eclectic selection of CDs, and we found our host's extensive guide packet very helpful. Our host stopped by with her dog a bit after we checked in to make sure everything was okay, and when we mentioned that our daughter rides, she directed us to a neighbor ten minutes away who breeds horses and gives trail rides. Her brief visit, as well as her communications to us before our arrival, made us feel well cared for. Our only regret is that, with our vacation time coming to an end, we had to leave.

Wunderbares Häuschen in Südisland

Beautiful & cosy
Nordjunes is a compact and stylish house with beautiful views from every window. There is even a window above the bed so that you don’t have to get out of bed to check for those elusive Northern lights. Maja is a charming host, and has filled the cottage with good advice on everything from trips, amenities and even cooking tips. Thanks especially for the info on the hot pools which we really enjoyed!

Couldn’t reach the place
I gave Maja’s place 5 stars because of previous ratings and I didn’t want to give her bad ratings, but I couldn’t reach her cabin as planned because the roads were not accessible because of a snowstorm. I had to find a last minute alternative and this was very stressful, plus I couldn’t get a full refund. So if you plan to go there during winter time just think twice, because weather in Iceland is very unpredictable and the roads going to her cabin are not the main roads and are not always taking care of. The only thing I hope is that the host will mention in her listing that it could be not possible to reach her place, so when you book you know your risks.
