Cozy Cottage on the Trent

Let us paint a picture for you... hot coffee in your hand, songbirds in the willow trees, and boats slowly cruising by to Lock #7. Your day might involve a paddle up the river in search of turtles or a swim off the dock. Maybe you want to do some fishing, take a trip to a local farm or antique store, or maybe you would prefer a good book in the hammock. Your evening could involve a board game or cards or you could enjoy the bonfire by the water and look at the stars.

This little 500 sq. ft. cottage has a fully-equipped kitchen, a 3-piece bath with laundry, a master bedroom with a queen sized bed, a double sized futon in the living room, a table and chairs for 4, and a wrap around deck set up with a patio set for eating outdoors. We've also stocked up on games and decks of cards.
You will also have access to our new Paddle Shack (bunkie)! Furnished with a single-over-double bunk bed.
Outdoors you have access to a flat bottom canoe, a 3-man kayak, and a paddle board, which can all be put into the water off of the dock. The dock is equipped with a full set of stairs into rocky-bottom. There are lifejackets, floaties, and water toys for all of your water play fun! If you're more of a land-lover, we also have bocce, washer toss, Kubb, Spikeball, or soccer equipment available.

Lock #7 and the Glenn Ross General Store are located at the end of the street and are accessible by paddle, peddle, foot, or car. The lock masters are friendly and love to teach about the lock. You can even grab a Kawartha Dairy Scoop from the general store before you go check it out! The General Store is stocked with many of those last minute items you forgot to bring: eggs, milk, Tylenol, toothpaste, as well as ice and worms.

Bring Your Own Bedding!
We arrived at this location after a 3.5 hour flight and a 2 hour drive from the airport. We were excited to settle into our home for the long weekend. The location was relatively easy to find and the cottage seemed to be just as we expected. We soon realized that there were no bed sheets or blankets. No problem - I’ll just message the host and find out where they are….well awhile later I receive a message stating “linens were not included”…. After further examination of the ad, we realized that linens were not actually on the list of items included, but we also did not think that this was something we would need to ask about as we (or anyone we know) have never ever rented a place that has not included bedding. Another surprise we encountered was the smell of the water. It closely resembled raw sewage. We thought letting it run for awhile may fix it up but it smelled awful the entire weekend. The location was beautiful outside, but we would not stay here again, ever.

An Amazing Stay
We had an amazing stay at Nikki's cottage. The cottage was very thoughtfully stocked. The water toys that were available for us to use were really a lot of fun. Coffee on the deck in the morning, fires at night at the fire pit, dinner on the barbecue, a really fun place to stay.

Amazing week!
We just returned home after a wonderful week at this cottage. It was just my husband and our 16 year old daughter along this time, but we had such a great time. The cottage and Bunkie were exactly as described. Everything was so clean and we LOVED the record player! We brought along a projector to connect to the laptop so we could watch movies on the wall and didn't even miss not having a tv. They had so many games ( both indoors and outdoors), the kitchen was well stocked and the lake was clean and weed-free. We were thankful for the suggestion to bring along water shoes for the rocks! We spent the week swimming, reading, resting, eating ice cream ( you must try What's Your Scoop in Frankfurt!) playing Bocce ball and exploring Stirling ( the candy store is amazing) as well as Campbellford (the bakery!!). It's such a lovely spot and we're thankful that Nikki and family shared their spot with us.
