We are two Canadian couples who rented this house in February 2015. The best part for us was waking each morning to the stunning views of the bay and the town and all the interesting life around us. We watched cruise ships, sunsets and even whales spouting in the bay. There is a price to be paid for the view, however, and that is the steep climb up the hill. We enjoyed it -- in fact, it was a point of pride not to take a taxi. However, we have older friends who would be unable to tackle the steep cobblestoned streets. The distance from the house down to the Camarones Beach is less that one kilometer. We walked down the hill and to the very south end of the Malecon almost every day. One good thing about the distance above the town is that it is quiet. We heard complaints from people who stayed closer to the beach about noisy night life. The only sounds came from the barking dogs that surrounded our property. Apparently this is a normal occurrence in the whole town. Our neighbourhood was mixed, with high-end homes owned by ex-pats sandwiched between very modest homes owned by Mexicans. We felt completely safe at all times. The Mexican family who lives next door met us on our arrival and checked in several times to see if we needed anything.
Inside, the house is beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the comfortable beds, luxurious bedding and towels. A maid came in to clean three times during our 16-day visit -- next time we would ask her to come every day, since we didn't want to waste time making beds and washing dishes. There is no dishwasher. You can pack light, though, since there is a washer and dryer on site. One of the best features of the house was strong wifi, which isn't often available at the resorts. The owners have provided a separate router for each floor and we had no trouble connecting at any time. The master bedroom features a desk with a printer if you want to set up your portable computer. The house did lack a TV and DVD player, and occasionally we felt that we would have liked to watch a TV show or a movie in the evening. Also there was no radio or CD player.
There is a small pool that looks like a hot tub on the lower level (still with an ocean view) but the water is ice cold. We dipped into it a few times when we were really hot after climbing the hill, but it isn't something you would want to lounge in.
Overall, we felt the house would be worth the price if it included daily maid service, and had a TV/DVD player.
