By far our worst rental experience ever
This stay was a total disaster. Leading up to the rental, the owner was communicative and polite. But it all went downhill quickly... He told us we needed a parking pass to avoid street parking in this industrial neighborhood, which seem like a good idea. We paid $15 a night (via Venmo) at the owner's request. Big mistake. We never received the parking pass, or a refund for it, and there was no way to access the internal garage without a pass or fob. Once we finally settled in, my son picked up a vape pen from inside a decorative candle on the coffee table, and asked what it was (!) The walls in this large former mill building are incredibly thin, and it felt like someone having a normal conversation in the neighboring apartment was talking right there beside us. This worsened when the neighbors on both sides started smoking copious amounts of weed, and basically turned the unit we were staying in into a hot box. There are no windows in either upstairs bedroom to bring in fresh air. My kids started complaining of headaches, my son had an asthma attack, and after about an hour we left and decided to ask for a refund. VRBO connected us with owner, who at first promised a full refund (minus cleaning fee), but then without explanation, only paid 50%. We are super disappointed in both the owner and in VRBO for their handling of this situation. Seems like this owner manages multiple units. Though clean and nicely decorated, it was a different unit than the one in the pictures.
