This cottage is located right next to the New River in Prince, WV. It is very peaceful, but quite remote - its about a 10 min drive into the park ( on good but windy roads) to reach it, or to reach civilization again. Its remoteness means that cell phone coverage is spotty - T mobile had no service at all there. AT&T had one -two bars only in specific locations within the house. They do provide internet - but its a 4G receiver, which sometimes works, and sometimes didn't- for no apparent reason. One night it was OK, the next morning, it wasn't - and we hadn't touched it. So make your plans before you get to the cottage, as it was very difficult to reach anyone once there. We were lucky that we had one AT&T phone, that gave us some communication ability - but it was difficult to hold a conversation. There is direct TV which worked great, so we reverted to TV for news and weather.
The house was clean and in good condition, and easy check in process etc. Although technically there are three bedrooms, only one has a door (the one with the largest bed) . The second bedroom (with the bunk beds) is up a few steps with no door. The third bedroom is really a converted attic space. You have to walk through the bunk bed room and up a short ladder into a half room, which is only about 4 ft high. The opening into the room is shorter and no door. Ok for kids, but not for teenagers who want their privacy.
The house is compact - it was fine for our family of 4 - but I would think 8 people would be cramped there. The kitchen table/ island only seats 4 - if you want to eat together. Nice screened in porch at the back. Individual air conditioners in most rooms (except the attic room). - The A/C woke us up each time it cycled on the first night, so we turned it off after that - and that wasn't a problem.
Overall, we had a good time and we adapted, but it would have been better to understand its limitations before booking.
