Nature Lover's Cottage Retreat On The Black River With Private Dock.

This small clean and newly renovated cottage on a 20 acre property is the perfect option for small groups or families who are looking for basic accommodations that will fit in a modest budget to use as a home base for exploring The County. Located near the Black River Cheese Factory, it is is a 10 minute drive to Picton, Base 31 and Waupoos. Sandbanks Provincial Park and Long Point Bird Observatory are a 20-30 minute drive. This exceptional property is on the Black River. You can paddle, canoe from the private dock and be on Lake Ontario within 15-30 minutes. The property is bounded by forests and ravines with open meadows. It registered as a Provincial area of Natural and Scientific interest due to the wetlands habitat and unique glacial history.
This property includes a small hobby farm that is managed by the owner who occupies the other cottage. The farm is based on a Forest Garden model where crops are integrated with natural plantings. Chickens and small livestock are part of the farm operation. As long as the hens are happy, you can have fresh eggs. You can also sample seasonal produce from the vegetable and herb garden.
The cottage is at the end of a 1/2 km, private driveway, so it is very quiet.
At night you can watch the fireflies while you roast marshmallows at the fire pit by the dock.
if you are a paddler, this is a good location for canoeing and kayaking. You can launch right from the dock and either head into Lake Ontario or go upstream toward Milford.
For the nature lover, this property is teaming with flora and fauna. The owners are actively returning part of the property to native forest and meadow species.

The cottage is small (450 sq. ft.), so this is more suitable for individuals or groups who want to get out and explore. Alternatively, you could set up a tent in any number of spots on the property and use the cottage as a convenient cooking and bath facility.

The cottage has a modest kitchen with a sink, refrigerator, stove/ oven. The kitchen is equipped with a full range of dishes, pots pans utensils.
The newly renovated bath is a three piece with combined shower/bath
There are two bedrooms one with bunk beds and one with a double bed
The living area is equipped with a new couch that pulls out to a double bed.
The deck overlooks the view onto the Black River and includes a barbecue and patio furniture.
Linens and towels are provided.
Satellite TV provided.
Bicycle storage is available.
Use of a day pass to Sandbanks Provincial Park is included.

Dog Fun!
Cathy and Robin made us feel most welcome. They've put in a lot of work to create a relaxed environment off the beaten track. The dogs were a bonus - endless stick and ball chasing with their border colley 'Peggie'. We will try to return!

Beautiful and Quiet Cottage with Excellent Hosts
This is our second visit. Everyone is friendly and the cottage is clean and well-kept. It's a private, quiet place to relax and enjoy nature but also conveniently located close enough to almost anywhere else you may want to go in PEC. We also enjoyed spending time with Peggy, Cleo, and Dora.

Black River Retreat
Our 2nd year staying at this wonderful rustic cottage with great hosts. They changed the 2nd bedroom bed to bunk beds - not too comfortable for adults but I'm sure kids will love them.

Lovely rustic cottage in nature
We had a great stay in this beautiful region. Catherine and Robin were gracious hosts. The location is a bit remote but it's perfect if you're looking to get out of the busy city beat. We really enjoyed the quiet setting.

Relaxing Week with my Sister
Greeted by friendly hosts. Everything was as expected or better. Enjoyed paddling the kayak in the calm river; morning yoga on the dock with the swans, birds, and otters; quiet surroundings; short drive to activities and restaurants; large BBQ; and the fresh strawberries and eggs.

Just what we were looking for.
We were looking for a nice quiet away from it all location and we found this the perfect place for us. The cottage is small but plenty big enough for the two of us with a useful screened outdoor space. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need and the hosts were so lovely, as were the 3 dogs. We would definitely book again the next time we are in Canada.

We very much enjoyed an early season long weekend here. A combination anniversary / Eclipse viewing. Paddling the Black River was super with lots of wildlife sightings. The dogs were nice to have around and the Hosts were very congenial. We would definitely stay here again.

Great Cottage on a Unique Property
This was our first time here and we were not disappointed in any way. The cottage was cozy, clean, well-kept, and thoughtfully stocked and decorated. The property was beautiful with many places to relax and explore. The dogs were friendly and fun to play with and seeing and hearing other animals made the experience unique. The property owners were always helpful if needed. We would definitely come back again and recommend it as a great place to stay in PEC.

Great relaxing stay on the farm.
We had a great stay at Robin and Catherine's cabin. It is a small and rustic cabin, but the setting is amazing. The large veranda is a very nice place to enjoy meals and adds quite a bit to the living space. Our daughter loved seeing all the animals and playing with the dogs. Robin and Catherine were very generous of their time and even shared some fresh products of their farm. Great spot to enjoy all that the county has to offer!

County Country Charm
A wonderful rustic retreat with the charm of farm country in the county. Katherine & Robyn were great hosts. Enjoyed the evenings in the enclosed porch and the abundance of beautiful trees on the property. Great dogs - especially Peg, a little sweetheart. Kitchen equipped with all the tools you may need (altho the tiny coffee pot was a challenge if not aligned just perfect!) Fresh eggs from the farm - we would definitely book the property again. Thank you!

PEC Stay
This was my family's 3rd consecutive July stay with Catherine and Robin. It's always a pleasure to visit the area and this is a perfect place to stay as, once you've had a busy day touring the county, the day isn't over as it's a beautiful place to rest and relax. The firefly show at dusk on the screened in porch is always a daily highlight. Can't recommend enough for those who do not need luxury.

Quiet Comfortable Stay
The cottage is not large but was quite comfortable and very well equipped. The bedrooms are nicely decorated. The screened porch was our favourite place to sit, eat, read and enjoy listening to the birds. We would laugh at the squawking of the Guinea fowl and wonder why it didn’t make itself hoarse. The fireflies put on a great show one evening. The three dogs are friendly and welcomed us back every time we left the property.

Great Farm Location
This little cottage was so much more interesting than others we have stayed in - such a please to see the sheep and turkeys and dogs and chickens and a fantastic walking trail! I was however disappointed with the limited wifi as I was unable to work with my online POD (print on demand) service. Perhaps it could be stated in the listing that wifi is limited due to location.

Cottage rental
Nice but small as noted in advertisement. Place could benefit from the addition of hooks for hanging jackets and towels etc. and it could have been a little cleaner but the family enjoyed themselves. The hosts were friendly and attentive. Beautiful grounds. Family said they would go back.
