The Hotel Laghetto Stilo Higienópolis is a beautiful, well maintained property. Before my trip to Porto Alegre, I researched property after property to make sure my expectations of safety, cleanliness, and comfort were met. On these three points this hotel excels. You want to try and avoid rush hour traffic when arriving if you are planning on driving yourself. (New Yorker is going to be at home here if you have experience driving downtown) But that isn't the hotel's fault. Also, outside of those hours, traffic really isn't that bad. The hotel seems to be in a pretty good neighborhood. The entrance is actually on a side street. I went ahead and used the valet parking. With the exchange rate from USD, why wouldn't you? Really saves on the hassle of trying to find a parking spot. Immediately an attendant loaded my bags and check-in was effortless. I am fluent in Portuguese, but they seemed to have someone always available to speak English with my wife who does not speak Portuguese hardly at all.
Now, why did I dock 1 star? If you are looking for a clean, safe, and comfortable hotel then go ahead. This is a great place. If you want to eat in said hotel, you might consider looking for a better restaurant. The fish was definitely out of date. At breakfast there were ants at our table. Not huge, we easily moved. Just compared to other places, meh. Now, I hate picky reviews that leave 1 or 2 stars because they found a hair on the floor. I fully endorse the hotel and staff, just...
