Climate & Surrounding Countryside: Sheltered by the Pyrenees, this part of France has an exceptionally mild climate and more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The Tramontane wind comes from the North West and chases away any rain clouds! Port-Vendres lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees, on whose steep slopes are grown some excellent wines, notably the delicious fortified wine of Banyuls. Those wishing to walk can follow the many mule tracks through the vineyards or walk along the cliff tops and experience breath-taking coastal views of the Corbiere mountains to the North and the Costa Brava to the South. The rugged coastline provides charming secluded beaches and opportunities for fishing and scuba diving.

Beaches & Attractions: There are a variety of beaches within easy reach. There are several small beaches in Port-Vendres itself, restaurant-bedecked beaches at Collioure and Banyuls, a nice family beach surrounded by vineyards with bar and restaurant at Paulilles, (which takes five minutes by car or can be reached on foot along the cliff tops) and long sandy beaches four miles to the North at Argeles.

In Summer, a little yellow “train” runs from Port-Vendres to the historical village of Collioure, passing through the vineyards. Famous for its clock tower and chateau, it has long been the haunt of artists, such as Picasso and Matisse, and artists can be seen at work around the harbour.
The region is steeped in history and many interesting excursions can be made to its medieval villages, fortresses, Cathare chateaux and beautifully restored Romanesque abbeys.

Location/ layout/ facilities: met or surpassed the description. Property was found in clean, tidy and well maintained state. Owner responded to original enquiry by return and finalised arrangements swiftly and thoroughly. Competent local support was available. I would recommend this property to a friend. In my opinion, the greatest feature of this property are the views from both the living room and one of the bedrooms directly onto the harbour's mouth and the mediterranean beyond. The port / marina is just a short walk from the appartment; freshly caught fish for sale on most weekdays. A good selection of bars , restaurants and cafes in the quayside area. A good location for those with transport to tour the surrounding french and spanish coastlines, the pyrenees etc etc

Great apartment in excellent location
I had stayed before in this apartment but had forgotten how good it is. It’s bright, clean and well-equipped. Beautiful views of the harbour and the hills. It’s really well located, 10 minutes walk from the station and 5 minutes from the the Main Street where cafés and restaurants are located. Excellent communication from the owner with regards to keys, instructions and general information. Would thoroughly recommend this property.

Belle vu et bien situé
Nous avons passé 10 jours sur Port vendres dans l´appartement de Glenn qui est bien équipé et bien situé. Il nécessiterait quelques rénovations (Chauffage/Électricité) mais mise à part ça tout était conforme à l´annonce. Malgré la distance avec l´hôte, nous avons eu une très bonne communication par email.

Appartement très agréable, vue superbe sur le port depuis le balcon. Proximité des commerces, supermarché a 2 min a pieds. Cuisine un peu vieillissante mais cela ne gêne en rien le séjour. Pas de bruit de voisinage, on entends un peu la route mais rien de gênant. Place de parking très pratique. Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans une région vraiment magnifique. Propriétaire très réactif aux mails, je recommande sans soucis.

Great stay in port vendres
Well located apartment with interesting view of the harbour. You can see the boats entering and leaving the harbour from the balcony. Has its own parking space, is close to the port and it is a quick walk to the restaurants, supermarket and train station. The restaurants on the front are excellent and I would recommend the Tramontaine. There are fans on the ceilings in 2 of the rooms. Lots of beaches to choose from.

nice town
as a 70yr old plus couple who have been touring france for the last 41years this was one of our best holidays, we visited beaune annecy stayed with friends for a couple of days in florensac and after 10 days on the road arrived at port vendre. we found the appartment spacious with excellent views the road and footpaths had recently been renewed there was at times traffic noise but this did not detract from our overall enjoyment. there is english TV if needed the port was only a short walk even for two wrinklies and it was a delight to eat at a different restaurant each night. we visited banyuls not a lot of change from our previous visit ten yrs ago still worth a visit,very dissapointed with cebres scenery good town yuk, the walk to colluire was a delight this was our third visit (dont attempt to visit by car in high season) lunch and then a not to be missed return journey on the yellow train. not sure why we never visited port vendre before having spent lots of time in the surrounding area would certainly revist.

Misleading description
We stayed here for a month in February 2010. After arriving here we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the kitchen and had to clean everything including cutlery drawer before we could use it. We also paid for linen and had to 'phone the manager to find out where the clean bedding, towels etc were as the beds had not even been changed. The continueous noise from the road meant we could not even hear the television at times and the apartment had no sound proofing so we could hear neighbouring families talking etc. There was not a bath as described, only a shower. We have tried to write a review several times but on each occasion it has been rejected. I can only assume that this is because the owner has the option to reject any reviews by stating you have not stopped there.

This is a spacious, well located apartment with a high standard of facilities. Excellent for families who wish to cater for themselves rather than incurring the expense of eating out every night. All amenities such as supermarket, general shops and restaurants are within walking distance and it is a beautiful coastal easy walk to Collioure. Wonderful views from the living room with plenty of light within, make it a pleasant place to relax. There is a bit of traffic noise but the tarrif is lower than other comparable properties and locals confirmed whilst I was there, that the road is about to be narrowed by very wide footpaths, which should significantly reduce the amount of traffic passing. The owner Glenn, is very helpful and willing to make adjustments according to individual needs. The surrounding area a joy to explore. Favourite restaurant La Tramontaine and not too expensive if you choose the menu du jour. I would recommend this property to a friend.

Very disappointed
The negatives. 1. Only go here if you do not mind traffic noise. The busy main road in and out of the town runs just metres from the balcony. 2. If the apartment has been “newly refurbished” as the owner describes it has been done to a very low standard. The positives. 1. Good view. 2. Plenty of hot water, the shower worked well. 2. TV reception was good. 3. Short walk into town (unfortunately no footpaths). Summary – Ok if you use it as a base to explore the area so you are out most of the day, and eat out in the restaurants in the evening.

A comfortable property in a good location
The property was in a clean and tidy state with comfortable furnishings and well equipped. We stayed for a month and enjoyed it very much. The excellent view of the harbour and fort from the living room was a high spot. The location is quiet with its own parking and is convenient for the town with the many harbour side restaurants and cafes within a few minutes stroll. Le Chalut was the best of the nearest restaurants but often required booking because of its popularity. A good quality supermarket is less than 200 yards away. The key feature of Port-Vendres itself must be the availability of fresh fish with the days catch being sold on the harbour side straight from the boats during the week or the outstanding retail shop in the wholesale fish market which has its own bar if you want to linger over some local wine and oysters whilst deciding what to cook that night. Convenient take off point for both the coast and the mountains behind with great walking and touring. Both the coast road and the route over Col de Banyuls (the road is not shown as a crossing on any of the maps but is signposted and metalled on both sides of the border) are really scenic ways to drive across into Spain. Lots of well marked walking routes so worth taking sturdy shoes/boots to fully enjoy them. Particularly recommend the various walks up to and around the two towers you can see in the hills behind and the effort is rewarded with superb views. Fully recommend both the property and the location.
